Outgoing? McBurnie

McB is a flawed personality who needs someone to sort him out on a personal level. May be SJ is the man? I still think that McB can be a good footballer and has shown plenty of potential. If he gets his head together and is played as he was at Swansea he could be a very good player for us next season.

he wont get away with it with jokanovic like he did with wilder

Seems his agent is still doing the rounds and has been ever since relegation was on the cards, I can't believe any of these premier league teams are actually interested in a striker who doesn't score, show much quality, and who gets a lot of negative press for his off field behaviour - hardly a role model for youth players or someone for young fans to look up to. No opposing fans appear to want him at their club either. I think he's just trying to get a move away for financial reasons.

You mean his agent is doing his job?
There’s no indication that the player is engineering anything here.

Valuation dropping, down to 10 mill now...
Nothing whatsoever in the article that supports the fact he'd be available for 10m other than the writer suggesting it.

What annoys you is so many look at Transfermarkt for values. Ok as a comparative guide but absolutely not something to be used to accurately value players.

I appreciate options on mcburnie on here are mixed and I can certainly see both sides his goal return hasn’t been excellent whilst here but no ones has really and he’s had his off field issues. That said he thrived in a possession based Swansea side playing out wide and through the middle that gives him versatility in a Slav side and he’s one of the strikers who has the best chance of seeing the field. We have another no nonsense gaffer in place now with a history of handling temperamental players if he can get a hold of mcburnie and focus all his energy and anger onto the field we could see a very different beast. Time will tell but United certainly shouldn’t be looking to offload him cheap.

interesting post yogi as you know im not mcburnies biggest fan and i would sell if any decent offer came in for him but you do make a good point jokanovic might just be the tough no nonsense manager he needs to get the best out of him for me wilder let him get away with far too much nonsense on the pitch and off it

I think some are being slightly harsh on McBurnie in this thread. He did alright in his first season and this season the strikers have been feeding off scraps. Selling him would also mean we then have zero aerial presence up front.

If you look at his last two Championship seasons he's got a very good return. 9 goals in 17 games for Barnsley and 22 in 42 for Swansea which is better than a goal every other game. Had we stayed up then I'd have sold him, but I'd be happy to keep him next season. If we do go more attacking next season and play to his strengths rather than pass it around in the corners, then I could see him bagging 20+.

Yeah I know opinions on him are divided like I said and there’s good reasons for both points of view I just think the season with how Slav likes to play football lots of possession and lots of chances we’ll see the true metal of our strike force.

hope your right yogi hes just got to cut this chav type behaviour out on and off the pitch all he seems to do on the pitch is whinge at the ref and constantly wanting confrontations i doubt sj will stand for this attitude still think he will be sold however if a decent bid comes in

I think his whinging isn’t really a problem if I’m honest it’s just how the game is now every other team does it. The off the pitch stuff has done him no favours at all but it’s not just limited to him we went from having a really disciplined group of players during the wilder years to a lot of off field stuff this season just gone something happened and standards clearly slipped. But like o said new gaffer with a reputation for being a bit of a man manager as disciplinarian who’s handled “characters” before I think he’ll set them in order and I’m quite excited for what this side could do with some quality additions in midfield.

Paid for the funeral of a young swansea fan he’d never met

Role model in my Eyes

still not convinced by mcburnie and not sure hes jokanovic's type of player but as weve said before midfield is really the key area for recruitment this summer creativity physicality and pace needed i reckon with berge and lundstram on their bikes we will need 3 in at least in this area and im sure sj will bring them in

Genuinely excited to what kind of midfield he will build.

Breaking this down into an overly simplistic view

If you look at highlight reel of all Maupay, Brewster and Mcburnies championship goals, I think Oli would be last on my list based on technical skill level and ability to make something out of nothing.

As i say, overly simplistic view but still shouldn't be completely disregarded.

If we are going to play possession based football with a view to creating decent chances for one central based striker there isn't a better striker in the club or in the Championship for this than Billy Sharp in my view.

Doesn't have to run around like a lunatic creating something from nothing, just has to be there at the right moment bad steel half a yard. That is absolutely his game.

Yes they may seem old in some people's eyes but at that level Didzy forming part of the midfield, scheming away, keeping possession with Billy centrally, he'd need far else chances than McBurnie, Brewster or anyone else for that matter. Look at his goal vs West Brom. It wasn't even a chance nad it was already in the net. Most other striker would have still been getting it out of their feet.

Come August, his legs will have gone as this appears to happen every year around this time 😀😉.

fair point but think to make it work we would have to play 4231 mind sj has played this system at other clubs

It seems 5 subs is retained until at least next transfer window ( new year ) a choice from 9 players to choose from
Billy may not get many starts but I would think he would make the bench every match .Knowing Billy he would put pressure on others and could force his way into the starting 11 he will be fit as a fiddle with pace never being his strong point ! What he has will be very useful to the squad , I think the Serb will have him in and around the 25 .
Hopefully Billy will be happy with that as I dont think he will be short of suitors willing to take him.
Him ,Bash & Mcgoldrick will be very useful players for us next season, also think there could be a roll for Jags as well.
No substitute for experience if the Serb goes for a young squad.

yeah i think billy will be very handy for us next season albeit most of the time from the bench

I don't see much difference between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 to be honest.

Example:
4-2-3-1
Ramsdale
Baldock Egan O'Connell Norrington-Davies
Norwood Fleck
Burke McGoldrick Sessegnon
Sharp

4-3-3
Ramsdale
Baldock Egan O'Connell Norrington-Davies
Norwood McGoldrick Fleck
Burke Sharp Sessegnon

Once you decide one of your midfield 3 in 4-3-3 will be a little more advanced, it's hardly different to suggesting you'll have a no. 10 who will be slightly withdrawn behind your centre forward in a 4-2-3-1. It's then two wide players trying to get the ball in the box for the striker or supporting Midfielders.

No matter how it gets drawn on the chalk board the two formations probably have very little practical difference.😁

I think too much gets made of formations to at least a point. It is how you decide to play which seems to be Jokanovic's main difference that we will aim to dominate possession more, something I feel Didzy would help with.

That said it is a pity we didn't try any of the above to answer some of the open questions. Burke isn't a striker. But if he role is to run like buggery and put the ball in the mixer, maybe he will be a greater asset. He can certainly strip someone for pace. Does Billy really need it on a plate? He just needs it in the mixer enough times and he'll do the rest.

Regardless of formation, if Utd start next season with Sharp as the main focal up front, it will be a long and frustrating season ahead - I expect him to have the (very) odd appearance from the bench at very most.
