CONFIRMED Major Sponsor unveiling - USG - Union Standard Group

Given some of the 'amazing' sponsors we've had in recent times, let's hope that this one comes with a price tag that reflects our position as a Premier division club.

We're in a very different ballpark now, so our commercial activities department should reflect this and charge accordingly.

It could be a good deal, in the long-term, especially if USG continue to grow. I don't know and can't find out much about them whatsoever, but the whole APAC region is where the greatest rewards can still be made. It is incredibly volatile, so it could quite easily go the other way should their liquidity providers pull the plug.

Fingers crossed they sort out their branding.

So when are the kits being revealed?

I mean, I'll defend the club over a lot and often think that our supporters expect too much.

BUT, they've been building the hype for over a month and a half. They've assembled press for a major new sponsor.

And it's a fucking Aussie Forex company. It may be our biggest deal ever, but it fucking should be. If the commercial team couldn't secure our biggest deal to date when sponsors are spending the most they've ever spent, then they'd want sacking. And then they have the neck to pat themselves on the back for getting on for two months.

Urgh.

Well done.

Have they been building up the hype? Even if they attempted to, I’m baffled as to why any fan would feel remotely hyped up about a commercial deal.

Crikey, it’s dull.

Educated guess - this deal will be worth at least £1,000,000 a year (while we're in the Premier League). Can you imagine United's commercial team sitting down with USG and saying "look, thanks for the cash but we're going to go with a low key launch as we think Disappointed Darren from Dinnington is going to be a bit underwhelmed that it's not Apple or Adidas or Mercedes"?

USG are doing this for brand awareness and, even though the global TV audiences will be what they're after, I think it's the least the club can do to create as much hype as possible.

Anyone who got genuinely excited about who the sponsor was and feels really, really let down today has only got themselves to blame. I think the only thing that's "embarrasing" and "disappointing" (quotes from twitter etc, not your post) is the reaction of people who are old enough to know better.

I demand a re-unveiling announcement

Just thinking the same! I can't beleive it wasn't announced by Kylie being parachuted into the Lane on the back of a kangaroo blowing red and white smoke out of it's arse. McCabe out!

With a koala throwing a boomerang in one direction then turning to flip burgers on the barbecue, turning the opposite direction and the boomerang appears again but this time in the shape of a didgeridoo (spellcheck spelt that) the koala then plays tiny kangaroo Down sport and for his sins is eaten by a duckbill platapus, before you know it toadfish is turns up the the bbq bollocksed with Donovan (complete with alligator under arm) they then proceed to drink castlemaine XXXX the alligator has been pouring his on the floor though and waits for poor Donovan and Toadie to fall asleep before devouring them as a meal. McCabe looks on in shock as he realises he’s fucked up again and the consequences could be yet another court case

If that's the level of build up we're having just for a shirt sponsor (got to say I thought it would include the shirts), imagine what we'll be subject to when the shirts are launched and sign players

Do you think the language and genuine 'hype' in the original article was necessary? I refuse to believe that the CEO of USG had such an article as a prerequisite for signing a deal. Regardless, there's some serious disconnect between the club's PR and supporter base (IMO). And I happen to think our communications team is immeasurably better than it used to be.

And apologies, but I got excited because the club basically said I should be excited. It's a quiet close season so far, we're now in a lucrative position and I was told to WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!! Getting our supporters excited will bring little benefit to USG; they're after the brand awareness that Premier League coverage gets. It's highly unlikely that Darren from Dinno will be engaging with the USG brand in any formal business sense. Dewei from the Dongguan CBD may be though.

What's the next bit of news... kit or player(s) unveiling ?

Never eard of em
First rule of 🇬🇧USG club is we don’t discuss 🇬🇧USG club

Posted earlier, I have it from a good source this was a McCabe deal, credit to him with what’s going on around him.

Not massively bothered as long as the deal is a lucrative one. I do think it would have been better if the sponsor and shirt was launched together, and maybe this is behind some peoples disappointment?

All we care about are players and the new kit, being in the premier league, the money side will take care of itself

If that's the colour scheme the logo will be on the shirts I'm all for it and consider it a bullet dodged compared with what was doing the rounds.

Two things i’m chuffed about with this announcement:

looks like they arent using that hideous gold lettering

and appears theyll be using an all red/white union jack flag, should go nicely with the kit

In years to come, people will still remember where they were when USG was announced.
Getting a better deal for broadband/phone/telly. Took an hour at least. Gas/electric far more straightforwards.

Does it mean Monty is coming back.
Will GCB be dropped in favour of Tie me kangaroo* down sport.

*not enough syllables in Whippet.

Let's face it. It wouldn't be United if we didn't have some scandal associated with anything we touch. :D

I'm told this was just a result of shifting markets and those that lost out blaming the broker. As someone said, this is just gambling but betting on money instead of shots on target.Screenshot 2019-06-24 at 13.59.24.png

Upside to a 3 year deal is that the 2021/22 season should see it integrated into the design rather than applied. of course we will still in the PL in 3 years but say we get relegated then what happens to the Sleeve sponsor? Also imagine the sleeve sponsor will be the just the Logo with smaller text underneath. Upping the Union Jack presence

My view is coloured by my job but I'd say yes.

Don't underestimate how excited people get when they sponsor a Premier League football club or the like. At some level, there's an element of dick waving about it so the sponsor will want hyperbole. They're very excited and probably don't like to believe that a lot of people might not be.

United will also be looking ahead at the next deal. They need to show they're a willing partner who are happy to work with a sponsor to make as much noise as possible.

I also think it's worth looking at the language of today's announcement and comparing it to some recent announcements - United / USG's is very professional, matter of fact and completely lacking in cringe. There have been some shockers and I think United have got it spot on.

Final point, this has all happened in the vacuum of the summer where we're all so bored that we care how the grass at the Lane is growing and get excited if there's a private plate in the car park. It would've all felt completely different, i.e. like a really minor story, in February.
