FAO Anyone who questions the shape and system we're playing: You're talking nonsense

I think the fact that you're offended and see this as disrespectful shows if you were in Wilder's position, you'd feel it was disrespectful for others who have never managed to tell you how you should be doing your job. Especially if you'd been really successful for virtually all your career like he has.

He's more than entitled to say it. Most of us on here know absolutely nowt compared to him. We can question him as people do and he can say if he thinks they're talking nonsense. Dont think its a big deal.

If Chris thinks saying 'Maybe we should change the formation' is nonsense, I can show him something that really is nonsense:

His comments were uncalled for, rude and disrespectful.

Myself, and others, saying maybe we should try 442 etc. is at worst ignorant with the best of intentions and doesn't merit being sneered at by him in such a way.

By your logic you could never criticize Gordon Ramsey for serving you dog-turds at his restaurant.

So by that logic no-one could question how Nigel Atkins managed us?

You don't need to be a 5* Chef to say that a dog-turd meal is awful.

I'm not even saying those fans, myself included, are definitely correct but to sneer at them as talking 'nonsense' is poor form.

He could just say 'I respectfully disagree' and move on but couldn't resist a dig unprompted. Came across as very insecure.
Of course he is.
Remember we'd have surrendered to Bristol Rovers if he wasn't desperate for a win.
Any win..

Perhaps I can come across as bit too sensitive and touchy, though I have a simple approach, give credit where it's due and constructively (never abusively) criticize when I feel it's appropriate in my opinion, which is what forums are all about:

Well done Wilder | S24SU Forum | Sheffield United Community

I don't think there have been many outlandish comments on here and beyond about our system, it's not like people are saying play 3-3-4!
Play 3 3 4.
Two wide, Billy and Burke up front.

What I said was that Wilder need not be, and should not be disrespectful towards fans who pay for his wages out of courtesy and professionalism.

Is that unreasonable?
He’s not aiming it at me because I don’t own a PlayStation and don’t think I know better than him like a lot of others. If it offends you then that’s fair enough, but you don’t pay his wages.

If you find it disrespectful it’s because he shouldn’t dig fans out, I don’t understand the “I pay his wages” argument. An Alfreton Town fan with a sky subscription contributes to his wages as well on that basis.

I dont agree. It's easy to say it but we know how good a manager Wilder has been so I'm pretty certain he'll have thought about changing it and analysed if he thinks its the right thing to do and concluded it isn't. I get why people think we should change shape but let's be honest we could change and be even worse.

Again on his comments I think they were absolutely fine and he's earned the right to say them personally.

The comments he made were directed at anyone who dared to question the system/shape we play. Just uncalled for.

And we do all contribute to his wages to a certain extent, including the Alfreton fans.

I contribute to your old age pension, shall I come into your workplace and give you pointers?!

Anyone has got the right to say what they want (within the confines of the law), but whether they should say it is another issue.

I don't think he should have said it. He could have neglected the issue and was not even prompted, but went out of his way to sneer at people who dare to suggest that changing the system/shape might improve our miserable form in the league.

I don't go into Wilder's workplace and give him pointers, I post on a forum my opinions, as do you.

All I am saying is that people should be treated with respect. I wouldn't sneer at you even now saying that you are talking nonsense.

The praise he received in the previous two years has inflated his ego so much that it's now the size of Meadowhall.

The peak of this was when dear old crouching Bielsa, the pseud's pseud, said he'd never seen anyone else attempting this system.

His own sense of self-worth is now completely submerged in his "system" and if he had to disown it now, as he doesn't have the players to make it work, his self-image would doubtless shatter like a window during an Antifa demonstration..

So, in conclusion, we're stuck with it.
Not beyond half way through next season we won't.

I remember not so long ago when we all admired Wilder for wearing his heart on his sleeve and speaking his mind.

Now we're fuming because he's wearing his heart on his sleeve and speaking his mind.

What good does it do sneer at the fans? Does it help the team perform?

His routine used to be part of making us a successful team, not sure if this helps, but hey we won today :)

It’s just something else for you to moan about, that’s all. We won, enjoy it.

went out of his way to sneer at people
Did he really though? Seemed very average to me. Must get annoying having to listen to a lot of people who don't know what they're on about claim to have the answers, especially when we're losing every week. Not even specifically talking about united fans. Or even fans in general he might have seen some pundit say something that's for annoyed him for all we know.

I do see your point - Wilder has made himself look a prat at times and I don't think his team selections, recruitment or comments in the media should be beyond criticism because "he's one of our own".

But the fact is he's being bullish because he's won a game. An expected win at that but he's got a soap box moment to throw some back at the grief he's been receiving. That's what my previous post was referring to. It's that same passion and honesty we admired but we can't knock it when we disagree with it.

Well that's your take, fair enough, forums are about opinions. He wasn't asked about shape/systems or the fans and then went out of his way to bring it up and sneer at fans.

I don't know where he is listening to these fans though, does he spend time on social media?

And pundits should not be sneered at either, some have expertise he should look to draw from.

Fair enough, but he said these comments before the game not afterwards.

If you think his comments are rude and disrespecful its a good job he doesnt say what hes probablty really thinking and tell you all to fuck off
Then you would really be offended and probably start crying

So you or anyone else questioning Nigel Atkins was 'being a Karen'.

Actually can't think of any other football manager who have made similar comments to Wilder in this regard, completely against the norm.

You're not questioning Wilder's management though, you're pearl-clutching because he doesn't bow in deference to such criticism.
