Despite the anti Wilder cult on here - few of them match goers by the way, and many of them pig fans - it's the obvious decision to make and a popular one amongst the vast majority of Blades. A no brainer for the owners who cost us promotion with their stupidity sacking him after Sunderland after the sterling work done that season in very difficult circumstances. He saved us last season and the majority are grateful. Many people wouldn't have had the humility to do that.

As it is the squad is a total mess, there doesn't seem to be much money about and the squad is already light one of our best players from last season. Those with emotional intelligence and realistic expectations will be settling for consolidation which will be difficult this season as we are shitola on paper with the possibility of our few quality players leaving. If you go into it expecting promotion it's a you problem.

It is odd. The only poster I can think of who is genuinely balanced is luffenhamblade and I commend him for it. But most posters, on both sides, can sustain a reasonable debate. It’s just the extremists, again on both sides, who always derail it.

Last enjoyable season the Hecky promotion season and cup run? It's completely understandable that some are a bit fatigued with it.

If by some miracle Wilder suddenly morphs into a tactical genius and gets us promoted, or at the very least plays attractive football with the emphasis on attacking rather than hanging on for the final third of the game, then I'll be the first to say I was wrong.

2.0 also should have got us to 101 quite easily and autos, I don’t have a problem with us losing the playoff final as anything can happen but there were games to be won

There are 3 broad groups of people I discuss United with - mates, work colleagues and people who sit close to me on the Kop - bulk of them regular match goers.

In all of those groups Wilder is pretty universally unpopular (in this current spell).

Other than the cult on social media, I struggle to find poeple who are actualy fans of this version of Wilder.

Points totals are redundant if they don't deliver success.

I don't ignore the final haul of that season, but we failed to win promotion. I'd rather us win 80 points and get promoted, than 90 points and fail to do so.

FWIW do I think CW is probably the best person us right now, in the situation we find ourselves in, then probably yes.

Do I think he needs to leave the club for us to at least and modernise our approach, absolutely.

Not normal no. But compare our overriding sentiments about that season to those of Sunderland fans. I bet they don't care a jot about only getting 73 points.

Yes, in other years, getting to 90 points would have sealed promotion. It's more than we got in 2019 for example. But the outcome of the season was the same as in 2009, and 2003, and 1997. And I do not at all remember how many points we got in those years.

The owners know nowt about football. They thought when they bought United we’d get promoted. (I did too) but we didn’t with the narrowest of margins. They listened to the wrong advice and made bad decisions ( they know nowt). So money they might have expected didn’t materialise through extra investment or the Premiership. Wilder, warts and all, is their best hope and I agree.
