Manager tied down ,new coaching staff ,good hard preseason ,new serious investors in the background best away kit in generations ,pre season match in Germany what more do you all want .utb
Good hard pre-season? I don’t think the fitness and conditioning staff have changed since last season and a few games strolling around in the Sun against slower lower league sides and Levante in camp won’t cure that. I think I may be able to judge if it’s been a good hard pre-season if Campbell is still busting a gut to get to a through ball on 90 + 5 against Birmingham City.

I don’t know what’s happened since Wilder Mark 1, but back then with the likes of Basham Baldock O'Connell and even Stevens he or someone had them fitter and faster than the current crop.

Haters will always hate ,if you look on the videos you will see many new faces on the backroom staff ,you will see the graft they are putting in ,you will see cambell is looking half a stone lighter ,you will see it's a tight. Knit unit .but hey ho .just turned levante over

You have a problem. You consider valid criticism or doubt to be “hate”. I’m unable to judge from some videos whether it’s been a “hard” pre-season or not. I’m pretty sure you can’t either as you have nothing to compare it with. Let’s see. If there are the usual “blowing out of his arse” at 60 minutes comments this season and judge then.

As for Wilder. On balance I wanted him back as the only manager who could sort last year out. I wouldn’t have sacked him in the first place notwithstanding his monumental screw up towards the end of the season ending in the playoffs. I would have given him half a season to build and reassess. However as many on here point out, he’s not the same and it’s now stale and like an old boys club down there.

All season? Half the season? When does it stop becoming an excuse and start being some of his fault?

I get it, we had a bad start and a poor transfer window. He still had 3/4 of the season to implement something, and figure out his best team.

This season he’s got less resources (money), and we’re expecting different results?

Not being argumentative, I just generally don’t understand the argument that he was completely out his depth last season due to factors outside his control. Most of the players he’d worked with some 2 months prior and had buy in to get more players.
Lol, I was referring to the picture at the beginning of this Thread 🙂

Despite the anti Wilder cult on here - few of them match goers by the way, and many of them pig fans - it's the obvious decision to make and a popular one amongst the vast majority of Blades. A no brainer for the owners who cost us promotion with their stupidity sacking him after Sunderland after the sterling work done that season in very difficult circumstances. He saved us last season and the majority are grateful. Many people wouldn't have had the humility to do that.

As it is the squad is a total mess, there doesn't seem to be much money about and the squad is already light one of our best players from last season. Those with emotional intelligence and realistic expectations will be settling for consolidation which will be difficult this season as we are shitola on paper with the possibility of our few quality players leaving. If you go into it expecting promotion it's a you problem.

There are 3 broad groups of people I discuss United with - mates, work colleagues and people who sit close to me on the Kop - bulk of them regular match goers.

In all of those groups Wilder is pretty universally unpopular (in this current spell).

Other than the cult on social media, I struggle to find poeple who are actualy fans of this version of Wilder.

Whether you agree with the decision or not, I question the timing of this.

If it was about stability or player deals, why couldn’t it be done at the end of last season or even pre-World Cup?

We’ve not started the season, so without seeing how we’re performing it seems a little premature.

I struggle to believe it’s just about getting a good news story (subjective, I know) out there.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence but I can’t help but think there’s something else behind this.

Out of my United supporting friends and acquaintances it seems to be the older demographic who still support wilder with fierce loyalty. Sort of 55-60+

Most of the younger ones would favour a change of direction.

Then there’s a few sat on the fence waiting to see what happens.

I think a lot of people have quite strong opinions on which side has the majority because they tend to be friendly and socialise with like minded people - hence being friends in the first place. Social media and the forums tend to be dominated by a few with the strongest and most vocal options at the extreme end of each scale hence the petty mud slinging. ‘Oh you don’t like Wilder so you must hate him and want the club to fail’ or the ‘oh you love wilder you must be thick’

I’m in with a bunch of 5/6 season tickets who all went through school together and we all share largely the same opinions which is why we’re still mates and going to matches together 20 years later

They've got their desperate patsy.
Betti's keeps his mate.
And we can forget any kind of progress :
In style of play
In coaching
In recruitment
In anything really.
Forever little old parochial Blades.
Living off a handful of seasons in the 60 years of my support , when we thought "this could be it !"
And then it wasn't.
Cool For Cats by Squeeze?

Stand by for an amazing revelation……

Mr Jelly thinks this is probably the best decision at the moment.

Don’t need another progressive manager coming in with the promise of a war chest only to find he’s stuck with Barnstoneworth Uniteds reserve team after they sell off our assets to fund the running of the club. That would put off any chance of getting the right man in when the time is right.

Don’t like it but we are where we are.

Wilder can manage a sh!t show better than most. The right man for United is out there but only if we have stability and like many my gut says there’s choppy waters ahead. So time to batten down the hatches and see if we get through the next few seasons without relegation.
I agree that thhis isnt negative per se because of Wilder signing for longer but more what it suggests is happening. I fear the owners are not so much backing Chris to take us forward, more that they see him as being a safe pair of hands to manage the transition to mediocrity whilst hopefully not going down.

Pathetic.

No point in reporting you again. Once will be enough. Of course, you could DM me your reasons, or even find me at the next match and tell me how you feel directly. I am approachable and easy to find.
You and JT89 might both want to have a look at this before the season starts. Please bear in mind though, that not all of them have car parks.

Come to think of it, if we could find one with a big enough car park, we could re-enact the Battle of Thermopylae with just the folks on this thread alone. Baggsy the pro-Wilder lot being the Spartans though. I like feytin wi mi shirt off, me I do.

Exactly this

Both long-since dead, sadly, but were they still with us, I'm sure they'd reassure me that there is no need to fear the nesh keyboard warriors of the world. Off you run, now.
Feel free to dm a photo of yourself and where you’ll be at the next game… or just be quiet 🤫🤷‍♂️

You are so secretive about yourself, it doesn't allow DMs. But you can DM me anytime. Not that I would DM you my pic anyway when I can put it on here. Several times already, but once more won't hurt. There's my full name as well, so feel free to look me up anywhere and abuse me in any way you want.

Oh, and I'll never be quiet.

I would have liked to have waited until around Xmas before even considering a contract extension.. not sure what happens if we go downhill in the 1st half of the season. Obviously would now need to pay Wilder alot more to part ways than would have previously.

Not obviously. We have no idea what's in the contract but there will certainly be a performance-related element. For all we know it could state that he gets a million quid bonus if the club is promoted and we can get rid without compensation if we are in the bottom six in January.

Silly little cunt. This always starts happening once the school holidays come round.
Hi Nick, this was a reply to Greenwich Blade suggesting I should meet him at the next game. I was simply asking him to make that possible if he wished to do so. But you’re clearly too thick to actually read all the messages before replying to one out of context.

So I’m afraid Nick, the only silly little cunt here is you.

The keyboard warrior strikes again. You have a photo of me, you have my full name, and whilst we're at it I will point out that I am a peace-loving hippy who owns all the Gong and Hawkwind albums. All I want is to see if you have the bottle to insult me in person. I already know the answer, of course, but keep going.

I hope you get the help you need.
