Yes but that's the risk you take, if he's returned from last season overweight/struggling and showed nothing in the preseason games why should he have an extension? Not knocking Campbell because when he's on it he's been brilliant but for 60 minutes. Bettis at least should have said "hold on" but we know he won't.

As far as his own desire and mentality might be part of his problem, it would have been much more prudent to allow his contract to run down and force him to earn a new one
