It was interesting at Wembley, when the teams were being announced CW’s name received muted acknowledgement. When was the last time we sang “Chrissi Wilder. he’s one of our own..” that was a great chant and used to ring out all the time pre PL

It was still being sung before we lost at Oxford. Everything seemed to go a bit sour after that.

The Oxford / Millwall / Plymouth nightmare week opened up big concerns about Wilder’s mental strength again for me. It was in his hands then & also at half time at Wembley and he blew it big time. Like many have said, the Wilder Mk 1 in 2019 would have been much more positive. I’m pretty certain that is why our owners are considering a change as they aren’t sure he can ‘go again’ and achieve promotion next season.

I’m a little surprised that the owners intentions regarding Chris’s future has been leaked, considering in the past they have kept things very close to their chests. If the owners are split, then perhaps this has been done purposely for them to gauge the reaction and mood from the fan base before they decide to pull the trigger. On the evidence so far on this forum suggests to me that Chris will be leaving.

Is it a loss or a “not gained” as we didn’t go up have not gained the revenue, I know the owners will want the money but surely we aren’t making a £200 million loss from last season otherwise we are properly up the shitter. That being said a not meeting goal target should be viewed as losing out so consequences and actions and all that

I didn’t fancy being part of this debate post final whistle but I do enjoy the chat on here.l so I suppose I’ve inadvertently unflounced!

Forget your views on Wilder the person for a moment.

My take is simply this, if a young, newly assembled team finishes on 92 points, 23 points ahead of their closest remaining rivals in the division and broke the record for semi final aggregate only to fall at the final hurdle then this team doesn’t require revolution. It requires tweaking.

It just feels like there was too much to do in two windows.

Central defence became unsatisfactory after Souttar got injured and there was no permanent solution at right back. There seems a desire to get Dunne to join. Him and Seriki along with Burrows and McCallum make us good at fullback. Unless he signs a new deal we’ll try to move on Anel. But that money can possibly bring back Souttar and the likes of Mepham and Darling are available on frees and even Holding may be a fresh consideration.

The central midfield looks strong for next season. Arblaster, Peck, O’Hare, Davies, Souza. The latter I feel may leave but I also feel Choudhury may come in.

I feel Hamer will go. His contributions will be missed but I also feel the system used to accommodate him impedes the rest of the team. We’ve gone with inverse wingers of which he is one. I can’t help but feel that conventional wingers would suit a front two far more. Whilst we emphasised his individual play, I don’t feel we really supplied the forwards with a lot of chances. Recruit well in this area and we’ll probably get a lot more from Moore, Cannon, Campbell and Oné, not to mention if we actually played Brereton-Diaz as a centre forward rather than as a winger on the wrong side.

This season was exceptional with 2 x 100 point teams. Ipswich weren’t fancied to go up originally. Like us when we went up that don’t have PL depth and they will lose their star man. I don’t see them approaching the season from a position of dominance. This Leicester team has reached the end of the Vardy era and has supposed financial concerns. Saints were awful and a lot remains to be seen as to whether Will Still can create a revolution from one window.

I’m not sure ultimate failure can be classed as a blessing but I’d expect very assured performances from Peck, Arblaster and Seriki and perhaps more consistency from Brooks in what will no longer be a break out season for them.

The baby doesn’t need throwing out with the bath water this summer in my opinion. We were so close, the improvements are obvious and the summer is the time to make them.

My only comment on whether he should go or stay is better very careful what you wish for. Also Wilder has done a fantastic job this season and if Souttar and Arblaster had not got injured I believe we'd have gone up, probably top two. There's a lot of poor managers out there and the best one is Dyche who not many seem to want but he is an excellent manager.

I would be surprised if Wilder went now so soon after the new contract and Wilder also said that he really appreciated the owners comments after the play off final. The source of the article is not overly reliable and it's already been denied by Danny Hall from the Star which I trust a lot more.

However, nothing would surprise me in football and my guess is that Wilder will have to be fully in board with the new owners dara based recruitment or he'll be off or won't last long.

The two signings thus far do not install nd with confidence, particularly the Puru lad who is 23 in August or September, can't remember, and is hardly one for the future at that age. He's not had any appearances for Peru and I just dont get why we signed him unless Wilder is just doing his best by not picking him to avoid any more similar similar signings but I imagine it's more because he's not good enough!

Agreed, the missing element though is the desire to drive forwards rather than sit in. The comment about Gus was spot in - those forwards thrive on deliveries from wingers and they simply aren’t getting that with the way we currently play

Not as big a fan of Chris now as I was at his first stint but I don’t see changing manager now is very sensible.
I still have memories of when Bryan robson took over from warnock and Jokanovic took over the last time we were relegated. Didn’t work as started a new season without managers knowing players
I look back to end of relegation season and all those old players moving on far too late - think Wilder has done miracles to rebuild the squad from the premier league and to get 92 points was amazing.
Lots of questions about player fitness (perhaps because weren’t fit or have full preseason when joined us ) and a few questionable signings including Grbic last season ( I think cannon will come good btw ) which I agree with. Some selection decisions been poor including that of Brewster recently. He just needs to move on now.
But ultimately many of us at start of pre season were very worried that we could get relegated again.
Where we ended up surpassed all our expectations I suspect but the problem is falling away at the last - snatching defeat from jaws of victory-
I would give Wilder another chance to improve and build on this season in the expectation we do a Leeds
Changing now doesn’t make sense and feels knee jerk.
Take the time next season to really evaluate where we are
