How long has he got left on his contract at Everton?

Could we just in effect be taking over that last year as a loan this not using the budget set aside for transfers?

If he is on £80k a week I would hope that he is basically coming to United on a free transfer (or a relatively small fee) if we are having to pick up his wages for the next two years. Tell Everton we will take over his contact which would equate to £3m over the next two years. Add in a small fee (or free ideally) and it could be good business. Everton might be ok losing him for next to nowt provided someone takes his wages off their hands so that they can cut costs and reshape their squad.

I've never been over enthused about MH but he is still a young age, has plenty of PL experience, has worked with PH before and is still young enough to develop further.

Have I got that right Weasel?

Are you saying £80k/week over the next two years equates to £3m?

It’s more like £8m

You are correct. My calculation was way off. Even more if a reason then to get him dirt cheap if he's coming here on a permanent. Ideally we would get him to lower his current wage and do it over say 3 or 4 years so that his wage become affordable (with a relegation lower wage clause). Otherwise it would have to be a loan and imo we should be using our loan places on other players rather than MH.

I think if it is correct he’s on big money, it will have to be a loan.

Perhaps a season long loan, but even then Everton would have to pay a percentage of his salary

The state of our budget being prohibitive would imo be limited to a signing on fee, say £500k and a 50-50 split on salary. Therefore if true he’s on £80k a week, then the signing on fee combined with a 50-50 split would amount to £50k/week outlay by the club for a season (£2.5m)

Just my opinion Weasel, but what do I know? 🤷

if hes on 80k a week everton are going to have to pay at least 50% of his salary possibly even more but do think he would be a good signing for us

Looks like this tweet has been deleted so maybe not happening now. This guy is usually very good, if he deletes his predictions when they don't happen maybe thats why 😂
It's still there, if you scroll down far enough to 9:26 today.

Was he linked with Man U at one bit?

Shortly before signing the contract?

That would explain any stupid wage

Everton will have thought "oh fuck we've got another DCL thing here, best hurry up..."

Are we only signing this guy to try and confirm if the conspiracy theories about Everton are true

Go on Mason, tell us the truth lol 😂

How much of Clarke's wages were we paying?

Holgate signed a new 5 year contract under Ancelotti in 2020. He was on £25k per week prior. That went upto £70k before bonuses in the 2020 deal. It was quoted in the press at the time with contract values.
Its a 5 year deal so he has 2 years left, hence probably why Everton are trying to get him out on loan or with a view to buy. He isnt big enough or 'headery' enough for Sean. Same goes for Conor Coady who will be on even more money. I can't be bothered to work out Coadys wage but it will be v large.
You might not like it HarryHaslam but its been happening for years.
Returning to the OP I think he (Holgate) is a good player, he is probably much better value than Coady. He is a better age to actually play some games for us and probably improve/benefit from regular games. The Hecky link is a good thing. I am not sure his best position.

Coady is on about 55k according to capology.

I’m not a big fan personally, seen him a few times and he’s never really stood out. Although I would say he was often played at RB in those games and I think he’d probably be better at CB. Feels like a waste of a loan spot since we’re desperate for left sided players though.

Be weird for Everton to loan him to a relegation rival and continue paying him a salary.
Presume we'd have to take on the full 70k a week.
Seems loads for a position we're not desperate for and uses up 1/2 our available Prem loans.
None of it sounds too clever to me but hard to say without knowing the full transfer plans.

I’ll start by saying that I don’t rate him at all. On any level, in any position. That viewpoint is backed up by any & every Everton fan you speak to.

He was bought by Everton to replace John Stones, after he showed youthful promise at Barnsley (as did Stones). He never fulfilled it. He’s not lost his way, he’s just not very good.

He’s 27 yrs old in October, and I think he’s played about 160 games in nigh on a decade, which tells its own story.

The whole thing only makes the slightest bit of sense in my mind if we are bringing him in to play RCB, with Everton covering 1/2 his wages, with an option to purchase at a very favourable price. So favourable that Hecky sees value in it. The other side of this deal would involve us selling Anel for big money and dropping the majority of it on a quality player (hopefully Doyle or a CF).

If this isn’t the case and we are seriously looking at bringing him in to play DCM or LCB or move another CB out of position to accommodate him and we’re happy to pay any more than £20k a week for him, then my fucking patience is wearing very thin with the club at the moment.

It’s like the Captain of the Titanic, on learning of the collision with the iceberg, asking a plumber to quickly change the taps in his cabin for gold ones.

Who is your starting CB if we aren’t desperate or needing to improve the position ??

For me to have best chance of staying in division we need 4 or 5 players coming in capable of starting, 1 x CB, 2 x CM and a forward, to get the type of player we need will cost so loan market seems most likely spot to try and do this

I was reasonably happy with this signing, but seeing this very well informed view has left me a bit despondent.

Is he worse than Ampadu Nic? Worse than Basham?

At the risk of repeating myself until something prolapses, if we are serious about staying up, which I must admit I am now beginning to doubt, we need to score 40 goals and concede no more than 60. Our current ability to do this, in my mind is scored as the following:

GK: 6.5/10
DF: 7/10
MF: 5/10
FW: 5.5/10

Therefore, going on the scarcity of resources, I would hope that every single £ is spent & every single avenue explored that improves MF & FW. Anything else, in my opinion, is just fuckaboutery.

I just don’t think we have the money to address all those needs, not saying you aren’t correct in your summary but right now, for better or worse, it might have to be sticky plasters and hope
