Tanganga

At Hull Ogbene played sort of a switched position, like a wing back pushing forward whenever we won possession or pressed high. But we've toned that down after the international break. If you listened to Wilder's interview after Watford he commented that they'd been working on getting more players forward and into the box, and there has been a switch to a back four to help with that. Ogbene may still be instructed to help out, or even drop deeper, if we're put under pressure, but that happened so rarely last night that it is not correct to describe him as a wing back, nor our basic formation as a back 3/5.
Basic formation is a four, but the ability to switch to a 5 while defending is why Tanganga is being used on the right rather than Seriki.

Yeah he is definitely playing right back and it's obviously not his best position. The problem is Seriki has vanished, Godfrey has off the field issues and Shackleton has been out for a year. I get why we are playing him there but he's our best centre half and I think he shook be playing there

I agree I get why he is playing there at present, what I’m trying to say is that there should be no reason why he should be playing there more than a couple of games a season in emergency situations. The fact he’s out starting RB currently is shocking miss-management from a recruitment level.

We did not sign a natural RB in the summer, it should of been at the top of the list in terms of priorities!

So another CB to come back in and play RB?
I'm saying that he was signed to play or at least was playing there, yes.

The point being that with the players we have, Seriki and Godfrey are more accustomed to playing that position, but they're not available, hence Tanganga playing there.

And its not like we can change much until Jan. So we are having to make do with who's available.

We know the summer was a disaster, we knew that as soon as Selles was appointed. Its been discussed once or maybe twice...

Preston put a block on Mee and McGuinness, meaning there was a big gap between Tanganga and Burrows which they could exploit:

Their centre half Storey beat Burrows in the air, and it caused enough problems for us to force an own goal.
Campbell also seemed to switch off completely. Even if it wasn't his job to go with Storey's run, he could've tried to impede his run.

Well I suppose this is a social forum, discussions are bound to happen!

The first sentence hits the nail on the head though. Why was a CB signed to play RB, last summer can never happen again and we need to make sure it doesn’t.

Step in competent DoF…

Only part of the point was in the first line….

Not sure this lot would find a competent DoF…

He's playing right back because Wilder's seen hes got the number 2 on his back, so he must think he is a right back!!!

Impeding the run is what its all about.which is why so much pulling goes on in the box from corners.
We maybe dont spend enough time on them in training..
storey seemed to come in late from a deep run qhich gave him the advantage over us.
I remember going back to the sixties and Doc (derek) Pace was an expert at it centre forward who was only 5ft 8ins and the only way he could attack the ball was from such runs,he scored
some great goals this way.
Harder today as teams are so switched on with blocking off.No doubt Storey got free and Burrows had no chance against a physically stronger player.

We had Jimmy Dunne lined up before Wilder was removed in the Summer. A fair chunk of the squad imbalance is due to the comedy manager merry go round.

Dunne has picked up where he left off last season, ten games, 2 assists, great reviews from the QPR fans.
