The issue for me is that the first 11 hasnt improved from last season. We have clearly made mistakes in the transfer market with certain players and seem to be more content with increasing our squad players rather than the 2 or 3 we needed to improve the first 11. This fact that Lundstram and McGoldrick ( and arguably Basham) are starting games and that we didnt get a 1st team replacement for JOC even on loan shows how poor our recruitment strategy has been.

Bournemouth - 100 million wage bill plus similar transfer spend to United. According to the Prince we're at half of Bournemouth's wage bill when they went down. That's the reality. If you start looking at West Ham, Everton, Wolves, Southampton, Newcastle, Brighton etc we're a million miles away when you factor in transfer fees and wages

In answer to your other question, I think it's clear Wilder had made his mind up that he wanted to sign players from the Championship with something to prove. Not only is that a big gamble but it's an expensive gamble. It can also pay off if you get it right.

My main point is that, I dont think we have been savvy enough in terms of which market we're shopping in. It isn't for me to pinpoint which players we should have signed but there is clear evidence that there is better value for money in markets outside of the UK. I'll again use Berge as an example. If he's English, you can double his price tag straight away but he's by far the best player I've seen in a United shirt....(I'm not an old twat you see )

How are comparisons groundless? You questioned the Prince's ability to back the manager. Wilder has persuaded him to overspend on his budget already. I agree we have some catching up to do in terms of other teams in the division, which is exactly the reason it was such a gamble to pay a premium on players from the Championship who are unproven at this level.
