Is it time to change the manager?

Bassett got us out of the old 3rd division at first asking, got us out of the old 2nd division at first asking, both seasons giving 1st division teams a fright in the cup, then he kept us in the top division for 4 seasons, doing the double over Wednesday and getting us to a FA cup semi. 13th, 9th and 14th placings before relegation. All on an absolute shoestring of a budget, having the star player sold and at a time when Wednesday had been lording over us with a team full of internationals and CW’s shit on him already & surpassed him? Rightio.

i was still in nappies then mate, reyt not bothered. More bothered about whats goin on nowa days

Lemming 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we’ve had the best 4 years in living memory under CWAK in my life time and reached the premier league on a spend of £6m. We shouldn’t even be here! We finish 9th last season because of COVID-19 instead of top 6, and 5 games into this season because we’ve only drawn against Fulham the cretins and undercover 🐷 are out in full force. Uneducated so called fans like you make me spew. Were you at Bury under Badkins? Were you at Yeovil? Were you f#ck, cos if you had of been, you wouldn’t be polluting this forum with your bile. To put things into perspective, in the same time, the pigs have blown £59m to finish below mid table in the 2nd division, and currently sit rock bottom on minus 12.

smashed it 😍😍

And Bassett had a season where we were bottom after about three months and the SUPPORTERS stood by him through thin & thinner. They didn’t hoy their toys out the pram like some pre-school brat 5 games in. And We finished mid table.

I know, I was there. 👍

Let’s not go over board. I remember a fair amount of toy hoying

The questions got to be asked so I’ll grasp the nettle.

Backed by the board, no complaints there
£45 on 2 strikers
Squad lacks athleticism
Squad lacks creative / technical players
Refuses to explore foreign market
Still tries to polish turds
Seems to lack Plan B other than bring Billy on

We just struggled against one of the poorest teams to grace the PL for a while. New soft penalties and VAR saved us from defeat.

I can’t forget where we were and what he’s done for us but the question has to be asked. Do we support CW at all costs or Sheffield United’s future?

Cant see us buying a win anytime soon.

Fire away 🤬🤕
I thought you were better than this mate.

Yippee! I've just come over from the 'Hope I'm Wrong' thread.
Let me say that Wilder will get sacked, Brewster will fail and we won't sell any of the current squad for more than we paid. We will be relegated this season.
Hope I'm wrong, but if any of the above happens, you heard it hear first.

Those are the questions that need answering, I'd throw in, you signed MCB, but it seems evident you don't actually know how to get the best from him.. why?

Don't think we're at a stage of getting rid of wilder, he's a good manager but has some headscratching moments, he's stubborn, but we all knew that anyway.

My opinion is that the worst thing the club could do is sack Wilder. Even if we do get relegated this season, there's no one better to get us back up. As many others have also pointed out, who would we replace him with? We currently have a fairly unique way of playing that has been worked and honed over the last 4 years. I can't see that bringing in another manager who would likely change that is going to make us better, certainly not in the short term.

I also think that Wilder has enough 'credit' in the bank for 4 years of continual improvement and success. Just go back to that Scunthorpe game at the end of 2015/16... did anyone in their wildest dreams think that by 2019/20 we'd be not only in the Premier League, but challenging for Europe still with a couple of games left?

In simple, no, its not time to change the manager. He deserves the opportunity to turn this around after the last four years and i guess we are about to see the mettle of the man over the next few months and if he's the stomach for the fight. His ego will be hurting, he's not the darling of the media any more and there's no talk of how high or far he can go in the game. He's had four years of success and progress and now across 15 league games (not far of half a season) its not going so well.

He's not immune from criticism though. The run we are on is bad, over both seasons. We've taken a total 12 points from 45 available (11 out of 30 at end of last season, 1 out of 15 this), plus not won either of two cup games we've played. My biggest gripe is our style of play doesnt seem to have changed at all for this season..each year he's tweaked it and adapted, especially during second half of promotion season, but from last to this it's exactly the same. Teams have smartened up against us. Its not the time to throw the toys out of the pram, and now might be the best time to play Liverpool, but we could easily be looking at played 8 and having 1-3 points on the board, its a slog after that. He spoke yesterday of players having to prove they are good enough to be in the prem (words to that effect) and he has to do the same now.

Personally think it was a mistake not to start Brewster yesterday in a game where we must have been confident of getting plenty of chances. It was an error for the manager and staff to have not organised penalty takers for villa (Lunny was 4th choice at start of game, 3rd after McGoldrick had been subbed and somehow ended up taking it!) and as such has to take some blame. Whilst we've played well in spells i dont think there's one game we've deserved to win this season and i cant be arsed with the hard luck stories and VAR shit that people spout about, we've not done enough to win.

Lots to improve on and now is the chance for Wilder to show everyone how good he actually is / can be by dragging us out of this hole we are in. I'm sure he will rise to the challenge and sort us out.

It's a no from me. We're only 5 games into the season! Plus we've not been hammered in any of them. I know it was a different time but we made that mistake sacking Ken Furphy in 1975/76.

i don't think Chris is above criticism though but this is the first time since his first four games where we've been in this place. This is the time to really prove how good a manager he really is. It's the very least he deserves.

If we did get shut we'd also lose Alan Knill.

Plus I can't think of who I'd want to replace them with.

Let's keep fair in CWAK!

Absolutely not. And for all the objection over the grief the OP has got, there is a huge amount of naivety if it wasn’t expected given the polarised nature of that question.

We’re in a tricky period where plenty isn’t going right, and a lot of which can be pinned down to things not in our control. It’s exactly the sort of period where Wilder and the players need supporters to actually support them rather than purport to support. Wilder is not without his faults, but he’s by far the best placed to get the best out of this set of players.

In terms of what’s gone wrong so far, a decent look at it from Blades Analytic, with some glimmers of optimism from it.

Perhaps we’re being too harsh here though, and fans should be praised for waiting 5 games before getting the knives out rather than the 2 games in 2 years ago. The season we were promoted automatically.

Love Bassett to bits, but in my opinion, agricultural kick and run is a cowards way of playing football. It’s not even football, it’s more in common with rugby. We were the most hated team in the country under him. But it could be argued we had to do it given our circumstances? Wilder also had sweet fa, but our innovative style, implemented in division 3, is still the talk of world football. Our club has never had a bigger profile. Harsh on Bassett and his achievements? No doubt. But when you hear the likes of Currie, Souness, Pep, Bielsa and Klopp purring, it kind of puts everything into perspective.

Even if we went down with the worst points total in premier league history, we should still keep Wilder. Doesn't get it right all of the time but I dread to think where we would be without him.

we lost OConnell for 6 months and Egan for 3 games, for a poor sending-off decision
so apart from bedding in 7 new players to the squad, our tactics are being tweaked to cope with losing our defensive lynchpin
We've probably over-compensated for losing OConnell by being deeper but first half v Fulham looked more aggressive
Liverpool our next opponents are going to miss Virgil too
we have stopped the losing run, might just change our fortunes
let's face it we are due a few decisions in our favour

How very dare you call our style under Basset agricultural
Youve been brainwashed by YTV
When we passed or knocked a 30 40 yard pinpoint pass to Deane and co it was hit and hope , Leeds did exactly the same it was a measured pass from Strachan
dont believe that bullshit
the team could play given the chance, Glynn Hodges alone was as good as any passer in the game

Like I said in another post. 1990/91 First Division. Dave Bassett. Lost first 16 games. Finished 13th at end of season. Year after we were in the first year of the Premier League.

Fans needs to be more positive this thread needs closing.

But that's what we've become with MCB on the pitch. Hit and hope. Hoof it to a "target man" and hope he gets something on it. Wilder probably doesn't want to play that way, but that's the way we're playing as things stand.

You must be 16 if you think that’s hit and hope. Try and get some videos watched of when Bassett was here. Or watch a rugby match to get a better idea.
