I understand we are rubbish defensively.

But luckily the standard of strikers drops ten fold. Players like Robbo / Anel (even maybe Trusty) are capable defenders in the championship.

They were 12 months ago, just as they have gone to a far superior standard and been found out doesn’t mean they aren’t at least capable.

Where as strikers we don’t own a striker (unless count a Mcburnie) who has scored 10 league goals.

That’s the reason why I would concentrate on the forwards.

The positioning and organisation of your defence needs to be coached and embedded before you go back up else we get what we got this season.
We need to start from the back 100%.
Also, Akpom's value should have reduced because he's moved to a comparable standard league and his scoring record has dropped significantly.
 
Left back, right Center back, keeper and centre forward are where the money needs to go.

The rest of the team can be loans and investments in young prospects
 
Only the truest Bladey Blades would actually believe a player would opt to leave Ajax, where's he's scored just short of 1 in 2, to join Utd in the Championship during a huge squad transition that could result in them being anything from promotion contenders to relegation certs, on less money.

The level of delusion amongst some on here is reaching Darkside levels.

Swapping Ajax in the europa league for Sunderland in the carabao Cup? Can't see it me sen.

Initially loaned out & then ‘banished’ to reserves although he did get selected (& started scoring) towards end of Wilder’s tenure
Doesn’t appear to be a lot in the rumour (at present) - especially if Lille / Lens interested - both well in contention for ‘Champions’ / ‘Europa’ League(s) next season
Also factor in Sun’lun’s (apparent) ‘loan to buy on promotion (?!) ‘ approach re Cannon ?

Cannon. No contest.

Akpom would have been a half decent option but I'm not sure CW particularly rates him having worked with him before. Akpom is much older and nearly in his 30s and might just have had his wonder season in English football whereas Cannon is a pup, only going to get better, and is full of potential as well as looking like a natural goalscorer. At around the same price then it's not even close iro who I would want United to sign.

Akpom at around £5m... (if hypothetically we still needed a forward which we don't) then that would be sensible and worth the financial outlay. £12m, silly money for a Championship club.
 
Different types of players for me.

Akpom played his best stuff when behind Archer. He’d be more of a Callum O’Hare than a Cannon.

I’d take cannon due to age and fitting our system better than Akpom would at the moment. Ohare is an ever present for us and if he got injured we’ve 2/3 others that could comfortably do a job in his position.
 
Can't see him going to Sunderland, stats suggest he's playing and scoring regularly at Ajax. Coupled with the fact he's playing European football for a historically huge club, doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

He’s also done nothing since leaving Boro and was another that people on here were screaming for us to overpay for.
 
I like akpom but im not sure where he would fit in here or at brum who i thought loked very average against forest yesterday but very solid
Forest looked dreadful to be honest but it was only a friendly

By 'doing nothing since Boro' do you mean scoring 12 and 15 goals in the last couple of seasons for Ajax and Lille?

He scored almost 30 goals for Middlesbrough the season we were promoted.

Since moving to Ajax he's got a 1 in 3 record, which isn't "nothing."

He's big, powerful, mobile and links the play well.
Would take him all day long at Bramall Lane.

He can also play upfront or in the wing so that's 2 positions covered.

I really doubt we'd be able to compete with Birmingham if Ajax want a hefty loan fee though.

It doesn't feel like it, no.

Ajax loaned him to Lille and they chose not to take up a £10m(ish) option on him.

I wouldn't fancy a loan with any sort of obligation attached given Akpom's age, but Birmingham seem to be flush.
