Yep, my dad ordered over the phone and told them our membership numbers. They took the £2 off the tickets during the order. On Saturday we will use the membership card to get through the turnstiles (like a season ticket). C'est geniale!! :)

Interesting fact re Brentford. We have played them in all of our other 5 third tier seasons and never beat them at home yet won 3 out of the 5 away.

A further fact: they are the only team who we will have played in each our six third tier seasons.

We had played Real Madrid, sorry, Gillingham in each of the previous 5 seasons, but they are in league 2 this year.

Funnily enough, Gillingham and Brentford share the longest current unbeaten league runs at the Lane by an away side - Gillingham have also gone 5 matches unbeaten (4 draws and 1 win). United last beat Brentford at home in 1952 and Gillingham in 1989.

Are you still a member even if you don't have a season ticket for this season?

Hmmm... an interesting one.

You're supposed to pay £15 to be a member this season if you haven't got a season ticket, so officially, no you're not.

However, if you were a ST holder before, you'll already have a membership number. Depends how robust their database is as to whether they'll apply the discount.

Interesting, pace with Slew and NML, craft in midfield with quinn and mcdonald, and some of Monty's bite.

We'll probably get stuffed!:)

Hugely important to start the season well, and so far so good. 2 decent results, and we've stopped leaking goals. Onwards and upwards.

Really impressed with McDonald in the middle he looks very neat and tidy. Great to see both goals down in front of the Kop another clean sheet as well. UTB!

A routine performance and a routine win for me. We always looked to have enough to win, and they caused us very little trouble.

My view, from back to front.
Simmonson still makes me nervous. I liked Lescinel, thought Collins (looked leagues ahead of some of his performances last season) and Maguire looked OK in the middle, but they spent too much time passing the ball to each other instead of moving it into midfield or going long to no-one in particular. Harrys player with the headbandage (I felt that to give the lad some dignity, they could have drawn eyebrows on it...) seemed to win more than he lost, but Harry stuck to the task. Lowton looked slow today although his positioning got him out of the two bits of trouble he got himself into.

Monty, excellent. Broke up their play much more than ours. The young lad Mendez drifted in and out a bit. I think we'll see him have better games. Quinny had plenty of possession, but almost all of it within 3yards of the touchline where he got easily hemmed in by the defence. McDonald was a bit of an enigma to me. I dont recall him being that involved in the game. I even watched him for five minutes and he seemed to be where the ball wasn't. the bits I did see form him were decent enough. (See comment re Mendez.)

Cressy covered a lot of ground, not with a lot of success, had the obligatory fight with the centre half, and knocked one in from nothing. Slew also ran a lot, got in the same trap as Quinn on the touchline, took his goal well.

Overall, we didn't use midfield as well or as cleverly as I would have liked, but we stayed pretty untroubled by the threat from Brentford and in truth a solid home win, clean sheet again, it would be churlish to moan. Well done Danny and the team..!

I agree with most of that. By no means vintage stuff, but we looked comfortable and I always had the feeling we had a few more gears in us.

Whlst I'm not expecting too much this season, I'm definitely feeling more positive about things.

Monty excellent and McDonald an enigma?!??

No offence but I've rarely heard such rubbish. McDonald was the classiest player on the pitch. Comfortable in possession, made time for himself, vision and creativity. He's going to be an enormous asset.

Monty ran around a lot.

Well done Danny. As you will appreciate some Blades are hard work!

Time to  Football

I did watch him Pinchy and didn't think he was as involved as you thought. Maybe I just caught him taking a breather.

Your views on Monty surprise me greatly though...

63% possession, Dunc. When did we last see that?

Vive la renaissance. A Wilson Wonderland!

McDonald got more involved second half and it coincided with us taking the game away from Brentford. He looks a far better player than League 1 would normally see.

We completely and utterly declared at 2-0, perhaps due to the warm weather and early season fitness levels.

Totally disgree ref Monty. Thought we looked comfortable on the ball until he got on it.

Good to see you posting again though.

I'm a Monty fan, but thought he was average today. Thought McDonald was a class above. Hope Mendez-Laing isn't going to be too Fancy-Dan, he is obviously strong and quick which we need. I really like Jean-Francois, though on the odd occasion he could do with a Morgs type boot in dangerous areas, rather than try and play it out of defence. Thought Cressie worked tirelessly and had more energy than Slew, who seemed to tire, presumably why Wilson brought him off. I am a bit concerned that Harry's youth will be found out against better forwards, but he is going to be a great player. Overall a good day out, nice to see some football being played. So far so good and nice to see pigs and Leeds lose too. Shame about West Ham, couldn't resist the wanker sign to a car full of Hammers we passed just outside Donny. Very childish, but made me feel better.

63% possession, Dunc. When did we last see that?

The last time we were in the third division?

McDonald did OK, nothing more. He does look to have plenty more to offer mind.

Mcdonald did look a class above. Once he settles in then we should see the best out of him. NML got better as the game went on and I was surprised when he took him off.

When was the last time both strikers scored in the same game?

McDonald is in a completely different class to your local hero. Is that really so hard to bear?

Last time we were in Division 3 was under Dinosaur Dave. I think that simple fact deals with any arguments about possession.

Was McDonald the one with the halo and the strong light shining out of the back of his shorts? ;)

You should think different style, not different class. McDonald is a footballer, that was plain to see, although I didn't see him as involved as you did. Monty is an anti-footballer. His skill isn't playing football, it stopping the opposition from doing so. They are yin and yang, black and white, chalk and cheese, chips and gravy. One who can pass and score; one who can kick anyone in a different shirt. They form the essential and eternal balance of the football universe, and this Brother Pinchy, should not be questioned. You might as well ask why the sky is blue and the clouds are white. (Thats all to do with light refractions and some complex trickery your brain does...btw).

Strange that the lad has been here 10 years and we still can't agree if he's the best or worst player in the team...

Alas Dunc, your piece of wisdom, brilliant but simple as it is, will be lost on the blinkered souls led valiantly by the blindfolded Pinchy :-)

I have to say I was mightily impressed by McDonald yesterday, especially second half when he orchestrated most of what we did well. His partnership with Monty has the ingredients so far.
If Oldham and Brentford are typical of the fayre we have to overcome in this division, then we will be up there in the final analysis. However, life is never that simple. An intriguing season lay ahead methinks.
