His game had picked up noticeably at Barnsley and he's improved game on game since. OT probably excepted because a- the way we played and b - because Smalling had a very very good game. His work rate is immense.

what Woodwardfan said ... .
Yeah - agree to an extent. But does/did Sharp always strike you as one-dimensional? Hold on, before you get all velociraptor-like. By that I mean, the first two times he played for us he was playing in systems which didn't suit his direct, up and at em manner. At Scunny when he bagged a hatful that season he was playing in a system which fed that quite well.

This time round he seems to be scoring despite the shortcomngs in supporting him and supplying him. Yes, the ball gets to him but I see that he usually finds himself on his own, carving out slim opportunities. Imaging then if he and Done (or better still a 'target/first ball' striker) can be made to work with him? Don't get me wrong - I'm chuffed he's got so many goals, but he could be, theoretically, our 20+ a season bloke which supports out automatic ambitions, instead of a 'worked his socks off but got nowhere' front man.

He's flying at the moment and is on track for 20+ this season.

That was the same time that his Mrs had their baby ,big weight of his mind after previous events.

I've never seen him play better for us than he did in the last 30 mins last night, or when I've seen him for anyone else for that matter. Always looking for the ball, on the left, dropping deep, holding the ball up, bringing players in, making chances for himself, an assist and a goal. He looked absolutley knackered at the end and you can still see what it means to him as a Blade.

Long may it continue.

Ture - hope it does. I just hope Done comes with him (forget Sammon who is a busted flush)

If we had any conkers, there would be a 'wow' signing (or loan-to-sign) to partner him up front
As well as two midfielders and a CB to replace Collins

I've never seen a fitter player than Done, would love to see how much ground he covers in 90 mins. To me they don't play as a partnership as such rather than two players playing up front so I can see why Adkins tries to get Sammon in as that should work better. However, if those two are in form, who cares if they're not Deane and Agana if they do the business. Done must be horrible to play against and if that frees Billy up then all the better.

Dunt need it Pommpey.

Done will show his worth as Sharps partner in crime as the season progresses.

Am sure of it :D

How old is he now and how many more years can we get out of him? His hold up play is excellent as is his running into the channels. He puts a lovely wicked cross in every now and then but more importantly he is always in the right place even if he doesn't take all his chances. I love the way he shields and lets the ball run across his body and then onto it - a great skill to have on-board imo.

An excellent NA signing.

We need 1 more CB (Burn?), creative MF (Morsi/Moncur ???), fast winger and a replacement for Sammon (too inconsistent) - that should guarantee a top 6 spot - see easy!!!

Easily our best player and his recent performances in the league make a mockery of those championing McNulty over him...
Why can't we have them both? Why does it have to be one or the other? They're both ours. We need options up top and playing with injections is a very bad idea which could cost us in the long run.

Because McNulty isn't actually very good at anything other than scoring goals, as demonstrated by the amount of inept performances he's put in for us in comparison to Done.

However, I'd agree he would be a good option to have off the bench - better than Sammon, anyway. Maybe the player himself isn't satisfied with that role?

A thought.

Would it be completely off the page to suggest that Billy might, just might, be on the radar for Championship clubs this window ?

If a million quid was put on the table, and a healthy pay rise for the player, how difficult might it be for all parties to turn a blind eye ??

I wonder !

That could never happen at United.

McNulty's not good at anything but scoring goals... and Done is??

13 is a decent return for Sharp at this stage in this team. He should've had at least 16/17 anyway, in a better team he could already be on 20.

Done at least defends from the front well and harries defenders. McNulty only does that against Southampton, apparently.

What a goal that was by Billy yesterday.
Never been ITK in my life before but I have got a bit for you here my friend.

Billy was actually back in Sheffield nursing an injury (toe i am told).

The fella that actually scored was Connor Sammon in a Billy Sharp suit.

Scouts honour.

Sharp is not a target man. He's not even a goalscorer these days...We need a big mobile leader of the line to partner Matt Done who is likely to score prolifically next season. That's not Shatp is it?...but he's a Blade so that cures all ills...

Dear me, I do despair.....deep, deep despair....

I certainly enjoyed this one, from the bottom of page 6. Not so much the comments about Sharp as the one about Done (Runaround, as he was cruelly called by one regular poster).

I started this thread in December 2014. I was wishful thinking.

Pinchy is not a Billy Sharp man as evidenced by his statements early on this thread. Would anyone believe the Pinch can be wrong.

I posted to Sitwell today that many were against Sharp before he signed for us in L1 would you believe and this thread shows it.

Necromancy....

Has anyone in the history of teh interwebz necro'd a post where they were wrong?
