What a daft thing to say after only 2 games where he's scored the grand total of no goals. That doesn't mean he's shit or good, lets see how he does for us over the full season then judge him instead of one or two games.
:)

Except that he lacks pace, aerial ability, real strength and skill. His all round game is very average, although he might still be a decent finisher/poacher, although not at Championship level. He scored on his Leeds debut in August, then a penalty a few days before christmas. He's started 9 games and come on as sub 8 times. It would be great to see Billy back scoring regularly for us, but it would be a big and expensive gamble in my opinion.
:)

Great thread from a very hopeful OP a long time ago. If you have chance to read it through it will show how so many posters can be so wrong and yet so arrogant and destructive, indeed vindictive. Makes great reading to any Billy Sharp fan.

Just read through...

Keep it up Billy, always good to see someone give it to those having a go at their own. He's 5 times the player I remember in either stint and a good leader.

Some of you should stick to your crayons :)

This is the post of the year surely?

Something that may or may not happen may lead to something else that may or may not happen and we are invited to offer a hypothesis of both actually happening. Would this come under consequentialism or theoretical physics?

Let me see if I can answer the original question ... Er....... if I = MC over 5 and V(x) = {mw2x2/2 for xV>0....

Oh fuck it - "LIZARDS!"
:)

That post was a reply to why I didn't think Sharp was ideal as a lone striker at a time when Nigel Clough was our manager. He hasn't played that role for us, and things have changed.

I've been pleasantly surprised by his physique and work rate. Rather than deteriorating he looks a much better athlete than a few years ago. His experience has improved aspects of his general play. For me it looks like he's really determined to make the most of his third spell.

We have also managed to have players that complement him, i.e. offering attributes that Sharp doesn't. In Sammon we found something as rare as a mobile, strong and hard working big striker. To my genuine surprise Adams and JCR, both with pace and dribbling ability, are the current prefered wide men in a 4-4-2 formation, although several moves have been made for us to get away with such an - on paper - extraordinary attacking line up.

It seems to me that Adkins wants to build a side that is also designed for Billy Sharp to do well. With our good start, there's reason to hope that it will be successful and that Sharp will be scoring goals.

This might work. He's been playing at Championship level for the last 7 seasons or so. He should still be plenty good enough for L1.

140 league goals aged 29 is not to be sniffed at.

It will depend on a vast improvement in attacking intent and delivery.

Fix the back 4 now and we might have a side again.

Told you it "might" work :)

His next goal is his 150th League and Cup goal.

My next prediction: he will score his 150th League goal before the end of this season.

Well done Billy, really enjoying your all round game and passion for SUFC.

exactly - and we all knew Adkins had the track record of getting the best out of him, so it was very surprising all the doubting going on, "expensive gamble" etc etc.

Gotta say I was one of those who didn't want Sharp back but my God he is proving me wrong so far. It's almost like a totally different player from last time out and has arguably been our best player so far

That's exactly how I felt Roy, but happy to be proved 'wrong'. Sharp appears to have learnt his craft and we're benefitting from this. Our attacking potential is such that we no longer have to concern ourselves with this part of our play, and the thought that Done will be knocking on the door at some point should send a serious message of intent to opposing defences.

Joint top scorer and two points off autos. Not bad for a team in crisis

Billy Sharp is performing at the top of his game and gives total commitment plus a bit. He is 2nd in the League 1 Top Scorers and has come through a lean patch during which the team lost it's way completely.

I am so pleased for him as a Blade that his third spell is going well. On this thread there were many doubters, some bitter ones too. I know this is third tier and Sharp could still play at the level above, but he wanted to come back and I'm glad he did.

As ever with Sharp, the team has to compensate for his lack of height and pace but I hope Adkins perseveres with the Done/ Sharp partnership and the rest of the team is chosen to play to their strengths and that means "on the deck".

My dream is Sharp scoring the winner at Hillsborough in the league next season.

People were right to have doubts considering the pressure he was under having his third spell with us. He's answering the doubters including me at the minute but I do fear an injury with the effort he's putting in, you simply can't sustain his work rate for 90 minutes.

He has scored quite a few already but I do feel he should be on double of what he has now with the chances he's missed. The one last night in the second half was a sitter for him and he didn't even work the keeper, he worked tirelessly to redeem himself though and you really can't fault that. It's not a dig but we have to take our early chances just like other teams do to us, this will then lead teams into coming onto us which will leave us more gaps to exploit with our attacking options.

Cant fault a striker for missing chances, at least he's getting in the positions, look at Andy Cole, he scored a hat full for Man U but regularly missed chances and easy ones at that.

Billy is doing everything at the moment, the engine room of the team, dropping deep for the ball, scoring goals and assisting team mates, not only is he our top scorer i believe he's top of the assists chart as well.

billy will get better as players like Done get fitness back and drop his work loads
we dug deep last night, , which hopefully shows the match fitness is on the up

It's Sharps all round game that has impressed me the most. He has become a very effective target man / outlet (when ball is played to feet) as well as still knowing where the onion bag is and creating chances for others.

Very good signing thus far as it's turned out.

By eck does this thread make me chuckle ;)
