Not quite everything, that drag by the post early in the first half was disappointing. Great run through.

Strikers don't score at every opportunity, that's how it is and it's about the instinct and the nous to get into the opportunity. If he scores 1 in every 4 chances he'll get loads of goals at this level.

Glad he has played well and sounds like he has improved his game from when he was last here and the time before

Hope he is a roaring success DronnieBlade sounds like he paid back his transfer fee yesterday with his no goals and no assists and non motm performance against bayern chesterfield

Team game Judge as you well know.

More importantly the manager knows we have to get players into their box and we did to good effect. If we hadn't done that we might have played out a 0-1 home defeat against an average side. Sharp was always dragging their defence around and made loads of space for his team-mates.

Wouldn't argue with that, but that finish wasn't quality, there wasn't much else to grumble at but let's not get carried away . Also if he's going for 1 in 4 then we can expect 2 goals tomorrow then. Bring it on Billy.

Can we just put this 'Will he?-Won't he? Is he?-Isn't he?' thing to bed now please? I didn't particularly want him but he's here now so let's get behind him and the rest of the team.

I was hugely impressive with what I saw from him on Saturday, and it's given me a huge boost to my expectations. If he keeps that up, along with Sammond, we'll have nothing to worry about this season, even with the backdoor wide open defence. We will play better sides than Chesterfield mind.

I'm still a little concerned that the matter of scottish independence will get in the way of a productive partnership between the two of them though... ;)

Yeah hes banging em in

He can't score every game can he.

Gillingham was a total write off. Chesterfield he played great and deserved a goal.

Why do you even bother posting. You clearly didn't see him play on Saturday so why are you even bothering to question his performance?

I'm a little surprised by the reaction to his performance and wonder if he would have get such praise if he had played exactly the same and had lost. After all, he scored 0 and got 0 assists.

I thought he was a decent 7/10, but I'm hopeful his performances improve and wouldn't use chesterfield as a benchmark.

He comes across as a sack.
Not Billy btw.

Have you thought that perhaps one of the contributing factors to why we did win was because he did play well?

And why wouldn't you use Chesterfield as a benchmark? They are a League 1 club - we'll be playing quite a few of those this season. I expect them to be nearer the top than bottom too.

I thought Sharp played really well Saturday, as did Sammon. Together they look like they could make one hell of a partnership. Both hard workers, both capable of moving when they need to, both capable of holding the ball up. And Sharp has proved many times before he knows where the net is. Sammon and Sharp (Our own SAS?!) are going to cause teams lots of problems this season.

I was surprised how well he played. Did a lot of stuff I didn't expect (and probably wouldn't have done if we'd had a proper wide right presence) and never stopped looking for opportunities, even when the rest of the team had degenerated into time wasting and general slopiness for the last 15 minutes.
If we can get someone creating from both sides and he can stay closer to Sammon then he should be in the goals this season on that form. Might be a big IF though!

He also looked about a yard faster than he did last time around

We never saw anything like that from him before.. I guess it makes a huge difference having a manager that utilizes your ability, rather than getting you to run around collecting scraps for Beattie.

You could say that about any player when we've won.And I didn't mean Chesterfield the team as a benchmark, I meant his performance against them.

Agree with the above. Thankfully he seems a better athlete than last time, despite being older. Looked a bit quicker, and more sure of what to do. I think he's extremely motivated and it's good that the crowd really want him to do well.

I think the early goals very much affected the pattern of the game. We'll learn more about the team and individual players soon.

Agree with this. They seemed to link up well and brought in Che/Woolford well too. My only criticism of Sharp was he was trying to hard to score, needs to relax a little but I'm sure that will come.

Amazing O.P. Dec 2014. Popular thread. Diverse opinions. Who will be proved right?

Quality player, plenty good enough for us. We are very lucky to have him at this level and he is delighted to be with us.

Win/win but if it is there will be a few bruised S2 egos. I'm all for it.

Amazing sequence of events, who'd have thought it?!!

Yeah but not every player is perceived by pretty much everyone who witnessed the game as having played well, even when we do win the game. See people's comments on Scougall's performance to demonstrate this.

And what should we use as a benchmark then? His performance when he was previously at our club 5+ years ago? ;)

He did play well, I just think it's a bit over the top by some. Personally I thought Sammon was much better, as was Adams.

I thought Billy was excellent yesterday - he looks a much better all round footballer than when I last saw him playing for us. He'll score plenty this season on that sort of form.

More down to the fact he was misplayed and in a higher league last time around... Each game he plays he shows that he is in fact a league above everyone else.
