Hello from a Bristol City fan.

Ahead of our forthcoming game I’m putting together the opening post for our forum’s (One Team in Bristol, https://www.otib.co.uk/?_fromLogin=1) match thread, which will be posted the day before the match.

I would like to include some perspectives from your fans so if anybody would like to share info please do, anything would be appreciated, fans thoughts about the game, players who have represented both clubs, tales from when we’ve met previously, a fans view on your season, etc.

Look forward to receiving info and to a great game.

I would expect a fairly close game, but a strange one for both teams. It looks like the ultimate mid-table dead rubber: neither team with any real prospect of either play-offs or relegation. The nature of our recent seasons has been such that it’s a very long time since we had these kinds of games - and certainly not this far away from the end of the season.
I would hope the Blades players are not ‘on the beach’ just yet. A fair number of them will be playing either for contract extensions or for their next move, so should have some incentive to perform well. But the general feeling around the club is pretty low energy at the moment, with a feeling they we’ll probably just drift along until the end of the season, and then try again with a better-planned rebuild in the summer.

well after the post last season , where we were way too good for bristol and on song , we started this season under Ruben Selles , who sold half the family silver and had not one clue how to run a winning team, city didnt really get challenged by this most incompetant of managers
but we now are just running the season down with nothing much to get excited about, but at least our prides been recouped and we will hopefully work for a result

Firstly, I think there's 2 teams in Bristol.

Both City & United will have had high hopes at the beginning of the season - particularly City after your cracking start at the Lane.

City looked like contenders again whilst we took an age to crawl away from the bottom of the table and suffered a cup exit against lower league opposition in a season that we will want to mostly forget. Somehow we managed to meet up again in mid table.

Whilst I wouldn't want to predict the result I'm hoping that we'll give you more of a game than last time out.

If you prevent us from scoring in the first half then you'll probably win because we mostly can't manage 90 minutes of football and I probably shouldn't have told you that, Roy.

We blew our brains out sacking Wilder, appointing Ruby Selles and spending our last parachute payments on fucking dross. Still we’ve got plenty of quality and some outstanding young players (Peck, Brooks, Siriki etc)

Same old same old from the one team in Bristol brigade! There are two teams in Bristol. One that pitch invades when they reach the playoffs and one that pitch invades when they are actually up.

Up the blades and up the gas. I would love it, love it if we beat you.

As a Blade living in Bristol for the last 40 years Ashton Gate must be the away ground I’ve been to more than any other. (I’ve also seen us play Rovers away on no fewer than four different grounds but that’s another story). We generally seem to do quite well at Ashton Gate and a few last minute winners spring to mind ( Darius Henderson and Harrison Burrows last season). Then there was the time we lost in the playoffs in the days when the third bottom team (us!) were involved. And then finally the time when we were already promoted and the locals appeared to object to another team having a party in their ground. Pitch invasions, play suspended, police horses on the pitch and running battles in the park outside afterwards. I think the away end was still fenced in those days and all the trouble was in the Dolman Stand. So overall quite a few memories. Looking forward to Monday, no pressure, just enjoy the game.

I'll never forget the last away game of the season in '89 , shortly after the Swillsborough Disaster.
We were already promoted and the "sheer joy" factor was high.
Traditionally our day for "fancy dress" , all the Blades "Father Christmas" outfits doing the conga was just brilliant.
We lost 2-0 but couldn't give a fuck.

The Father Christmas theme then became relevant in when we got promoted to the PL in '90 and didn't win a game till almost Christmas.
Bassett started the next season in Father Christmas suit on the front of the programme - he was the manager I most enjoyed in my 58 years of following dem Blades.
Such a character and perfect for the doldrums we were in when he arrived.
Instantly gave the club some backbone & personality.
Still love you Dave , you cheeky chirpy cockney who dragged us up by our bootstraps.

both sets of players probably on the beach. I'm going for a pressure off, lovely game of throwback football.

3-3

Rovers all day long mate. Never had any time for City, you always come across as Bristols version of the Pigs.

Can't say I've got any strong feelings for any team so far away.
Looking forwards to a good weekend away.
Sunday onwards for us. So bank holiday drinking Sunday night and Monday before, have a good laugh with whoever is there.

My first ever Blades game was Bristol City away in the playoffs 1988, where we'd finished 21st in the Championship and Bristol City 5th in League 1. Didn't need a ticket, just drove my newly purchased XR2, without a map, phone or any idea how to get to Bristol with a group of mates to watch us lose 1-0. Loads of trouble outside the ground post-match with police horses everywhere as they tried to break up battles across Greville Smyth Park. I suspect a similar scoreline on Monday. Happy days.

Wight. Let’s just all hope Woy makes it thwew the game alive & the thwee points come back to Sheffield.
I actually live in Wothewham.
2-1 Blades.

My first game , home , 3-3 Sept 1970 .

Your club is to blame for collapsing from being 3-0 up to draw 3-3 . I was hooked since then .

So , you’re to blame for my misery
