Hello from a Bristol City fan
Ahead of our forthcoming game I’m putting together the opening post for our forum’s (One Team in Bristol, https://www.otib.co.uk/?_fromLogin=1) match thread, which will be posted the day before the match.
I would like to include some perspectives from your fans so if anybody would like to share info please do, anything would be appreciated, fans thoughts about the game, players who have represented both clubs, tales from when we’ve met previously, a fans view on your up and coming season, etc.
Look forward to receiving info and to a great game.

There’s a feeling amongst Blades fans that we have stood still or slightly regressed, whilst everyone else in the league (Wendies excepted) have improved. This probably isn’t as bad as we think, as our team is pretty decent to start with. But with a new manger in charge, and our new American owners embarking on their first full season…We are probably a bit underwhelmed.

Pre season has gone reasonably well for us but we have mostly played teams we would expect to beat and the usual players have already put in their sick notes. A new manager means a new approach but we haven't exactly splashed the cash.

Bristol City were on the verge of something special last season so interested to see if you have tweaked things enough to deal with the three coming down, the usual Champioship suspects expected to compete plus the Birmingham/Wrexham wildcards.

In Emil Riis you lot have signed a very good player some on here were hoping would end up at Bramall Lane.

However im confident we'll score at least 2 (possibly 3) especially with McNally out injured.

You'll get chances but you'll need to score at least 2 to get something out of the game imho.

Final score Sheffield United 2 - 1 Bristol City.

Interested to see how you do with Struber. I’m expecting that probably both teams will be fine but that we’ll also both finish lower in the table than last season.

I remember the end of 87/88 season play off games - lots of trouble around and in the ground at your place - we got a bit of a kick in overall. You beat us over 2 legs to send us down to the 3rd division.

Season after, we got promoted in 2nd place behind Wolves. Last game of the season at Ashton Gate........ thousands of Blades, many in fancy dress, returned the favour - in and out of the ground. That park near the ground after the game was like a scene from the Warriors 🤣

Tbh Bristol City do have the potential to be a really big club. Our 2 cities are very similar in size. Sheffield though has two teams (well on paper anyway :) ) of a similar size with other smaller clubs within very close proximity. You've only got the Gasheads! If somebody decided to really go for it and invest in City, there's lots of growth potential there, I reckon.

Might be an average game as many openers are…how you feeling about your lot pre-season?
It’s very much a new era for us, as it is for you. Under our new head coach I’m expecting a very different identity and style of play, much more risk and reward than under Manning.

For me, our biggest challenge remains goal scoring. I fear we haven’t got the strength in depth up front that’s needed for the championship.

We basically overachieved last season, so it likely to be a usual Bristol City mid-table finish this time around.

We’re all hoping for a top six spot but as you say, it’s a new era and we won’t really know until we’re a few games into the real football after a decent pre-season and a change of style.

I say this regularly... Darius Henderson hat-trick at Ashton Gate is one of my favourite football memories. I never even liked Henderson, but at "2-2 and you fucked it up" from the City fans in the same stand as us, it was absolutely crazy to win it a few seconds after kicking back off (in the dying moments).

We always think City are a bogey team, but have recently disproved that, with stats (before the playoffs).

Hard to know what'll happen on Saturday as we're short on a fair few bodies to challenge Top 6 (thank you Prem teams for hogging most of the talent), but, we should still field a good starting eleven.

Always seen BC as a bogey side for us.

The facts probably don't bear that out though.

2-1 Blades

We start well playing fast attacking football and Bristol can't handle us and we take an early lead. We continue to dominate the first half and should be further ahead but for wasteful finishing.

The second half starts and we continue to dominate but get punished as Bristol get an equaliser from sloppy defending from a corner.

Bristol then start to sit deep and are happy to take a point. Subs are made but the players revert to type and go back to needless back passing safety first Wilder ball as they struggle to break Bristol's nine man wall. We score a late scrappy winner.

Selles is happy with the result but blasts the team in his post match interview for nearly throwing away the match and for the sloppy play in the second half and demands better for the next match.

Or Bristol might beat us.... or we draw!
