Points wise you were as close to Plymouth as you were us, which should make it a given over two legs. In reality though I suspect it'll be really tight and cagey, both our league meetings were tight and the vast majority of our games have been. We've struggled creatively all season and have been the masters of winning by a single goal, often seemingly fortuitously.

We've been fortunate enough to be able to rest and rotate for the last two games, so should be coming in full of energy with almost a full squad to pick from (very rare for us this season).
We'll rightly be favourites, but I'm not hugely confident, especially given our play off record.
It's a massive chance for both clubs, especially given Sunderland's form coming into it and that Coventry look fragile defensively.

Started against Bristol City (I'm still out of breath being chased a mile down the road by 50 odd Bristol City fans in '88) end against Bristol City this year followed by a win over Sunderland in the Final. 100 years since our last win at Wembley. Perfect. 😎. UTB.

Hello from a Bristol City fan in peace.

Ahead of our forthcoming game on Thursday I’m putting together the opening post for our forum’s (One Team in Bristol, https://www.otib.co.uk/?_fromLogin=1) match thread, which will be posted the day before the match.

I would like to include some perspectives from your fans so if anybody would like to share info please do, anything would be appreciated, fans thoughts about the game, players who have represented both clubs, tales from when we’ve met previously, a fans view on your season, previous play-off memories, etc, etc.

Look forward to receiving info and to a great game.

Some memories of Bristol City, I’ve only been to Ashton Gate once to see us fluke a 0-1 win in the 90th minute a few years back. My highlight was being told the block of flats outside was where they filmed only fools and horses.

My wife also used to be a steward there while at UWE, and remembers getting knocked over by a footballer and sweated on by Meatloaf at a gig.

I have family down that way so have something of a soft spot for your lot, and I think it will be tight over two legs. We struggled to break you down and had a slice of luck at your place so could go either way.

I hope we have enough over two legs to progress but it’s anyone’s guess!

You’ve been better than us on two occasions this season…can you manage a third?

My very first game at Bramall Lane was in September 1970 when we drew with BC 3-3 after being 3-0 down with 20 mins or so to play . We went onto win promotion to the First Division

My first game (that I remember properly) was the 1988 Bristol City playoff.

Been waiting a long time to do this dance again. 🫤

You might be surprised to discover that many Blades have a strong negativity….for some it’s even dread…regards the play-offs.

We have a shockingly poor record.
Been in 9 play-offs without winning any.
Think we’ve been in 4 or 5 finals….and not just lost the lot….but not scored a single gold….not turned up and not even come that close to scoring.

So play-off finals for Blades have been total non events, with a miserable journey back.

Whilst we’re at it….we’ve also failed to win any of our last 8 FA cup semi finals and both league cup finals.

Most Blades expect to beat Bristol City….altho our matches tend to be decided on which team score first…then lose in the final but I suppose the worse big game run of any English club has to end some time.

Didn’t Newcastle win a trophy this year….so maybe it’s finally time for United to win at Wembley.

The form tables since Christmas tell the real story here. Yes we are the third placed side, yes we've finished 22 points ahead of you, but you've amassed as many if not more points than us since the turn of the year. You are more of the form side than we are.

Thanks for posting and welcome

My very first game at Bramall Lane was in September 1970 when we drew with BC 3-3 after being 3-0 down with 20 mins or so to play . We went onto win promotion to the First Division with arguably one of our finest ever sides .

My dad was a died in the wool Wednesday supporter but my uncles on my mums side were all Blades - from that day onwards a Blade fir life was born , I’m not always sure that’s a good thing but that game was the catalyst.

Can’t wish you good luck in the playoffs of course but it will be a very close thing imo .

Bristol city one of the better footballing teams lacking a bit of endproduct. Close games not many goals in them. Still think blades got players who are better
1-1 away 2-1 homewin

The team that is most up for this will win. If we play to half our potential we'll cruise through. Not seen "half our potential" for most of the season though. If we can't get up for these games we don't deserve to go to Webbly

Surprising that apart from Colin Morris goal I can’t find any highlights from the 1988 play off game at the Lane.

Even if it’s just to see if Paul Williams miss was as bad as it is in my head!

This time we put the play off hoodoo to bed. Blades v Coventry in final with Bassett sent off for crying and wiping nose on back of refs shirt

Really feel like them having the home leg first is actually a benefit. Rowdy Thursday night (Thursday is the new Friday after all) maybe decent weather, and they are well up for it. Could stick 2-0 past us and then come to lane to defend it. I feel like they win this tie over two games by getting the lead early not having a second leg at home to come back. Gonna have to go there and win.
