We won't have offered less wages for the highest goal scorer in the Championship 22/23 than he's already on.

If he signs for us and only scores half the tally of last season then that may just keep us up.

Anel > Basham (I know bash is the cult hero but Anel is just better, don’t kid yourself)
Egan - is Egan
Trusty/JLT < JO’C yep JO’C was immense, I have high hopes for Trusty but he’ll be doing well to get close to the impact that the brick header had
Lowe < Enda - probably peak Enda is better than Lowe but not millions better.

Henderson was also way better than Wes.

So yeah, the defence was on balance probably better but I don’t think it’s a huge difference.

Put it this way. We should be happier about the defence than any other area of the squad!

If we can get an attacking midfielder like McAtee or in that mould we have a chance because when the game is tight we are going to need a flair player to step up and create something out of nothing.

Akpom is a good player strong and powerful I just think he is a late bloomer not saying he is gonna end up like Jamie Vardy type late bloomer but you never know.

Yeah agree, I discounted him just for the start of the season as we’ve no idea of his return date, but he’s got loads of potential and the back 5 of Baldock Anel Egan Trusty RND would be class at championship level and can compete (I think) well at PL level

It's not hate. It's just a player with little resale value who has had one great season and many not great seasons for a significant, for us this season, fee.

Exactly, despite embarking on our 3rd Premier League season in 5 years, £8m is not a punt but is actually back to being a big money gamble

My gut with Akpom is not good enough but I do think if bought and we go down he would be more than useful for us

No “hate” just concern over injury and previous 7 seasons goal tally. If Carrick could get 28 goals out of the fit Akpom Hecky could get half that int PL where it’s gonna be much tougher.
