Totally underwhelmed. Same old EFL Manager-go-Round, needed something completely new from abroad.

Hoping for the best, but expecting...

2020/21 Relegation farce.
2021/22 Narrowly miss or eliminated in Play-Offs. Club keeps faith in manager.
2022/23 Fall to mid-table in last quarter of season. Manager falls out with owners then sacked/leaves.
2023/24 Muppet recruited as manager. Relegation battle and League 1 status achieved. Manager sacked.
2024/25 Blades Old Boy becomes manager on the cheap. Our 1925 FA Cup WInning Centenary takes place in League 1.
2025/26 onwards, Championship/League 1 yo-yo-ing re-established, further play-off hell encountered.
2030 or beyond Premiership promised land revisited, briefly. Above cycle recommences.

Yes, nearly 100 years since we won anything serious.

Same old, same old. 10-15 years outside the Premiership ahead.

Enjoy the ride. See you all at the Forest Green away league game at some point in the not too distant future.

[PS: I want to eat humble pie next May when this is rammed down my neck as we're promoted as Champions!]

A Wednesday fan has already declared he believes Jokanovic is ‘past his best’.

To be fair, as a Wednesday fan he would have a good idea of what something that is past it’s best looks like.
1863 best. 1864 onwards, past its best! 1889 onwards, eclipsed.

That's a dangerous man. Look at that stare. He looks like he could strangle someone with a cordless phone. I don't know about promotion, but I'm very confident our manager wins a Royal Rumble of current Championship managers.

He looks like a charismatic assassin. Gets you at ease, then wham, double tap

Not being funny but getting promoted to the PL happens three times a year. I know it's tough to do, but plenty manage it. What I'm curious about is what make Slav the 'best' of the options available. I've nothing against the appointment, far from it, as the reception to it seems unanimously positive, I just want to know why? What makes him so great?
I think Ron there's a few factors here. Back to those promotions. At Watford they'd sacked the previous manager in mid October, I don't know where Watford were when he took over, but they'd finished 13th when he took over the reigns at Watford and then got them promoted, so to take them from where they were to 2nd was impressive. Watford hadn't been in the Prem for many years until then. Then he went to Maccabi Tel Aviv and they got into the Champions league for the first time in years.

When he took over at Fulham they were struggling against relegation, he kept them up by 11 points, next season they lost in the play offs and the season after they won the play offs. Yes he had money, but we've seen many teams with money fail, and he wasn't in sole charge there by any means in terms of recruitment so it's imrpessive he got them promoted without always getting the players he wanted.

Finally, for a club of our size, I can't think of another better qualified manager for the job. Big Sam has a better CV for example. but I don't think many would want him. Eddie Howe was always a long shot, he would have been a good choice but I think Jokanovic is right at the top of the list. The first choice was Blessin, but he's not actually won promotion or even managed here, so Jokanovic is the better choice, certainly in terms of experience.

The Wikipedia page details his full career as you'll probably know, he's got manager of the year on more than one occasion.

Excellent write up, cheers Booker. Exactly the sort of info I was after.

It's probably been said on here at some point, but this is probably as an important managerial appointment as we've ever had to make. Glad the board have acted quickly and dare I say positively, so hope this will only be a great move for us and him.
Really feeling optimistic about this

Can't fault PA for this, he really did go for the best person available to us.

A lot of Fulham and Watford fans would take SJ back as manager tomorrow if offered the chance. In fact a few Fulham fans want him back to replace Parker.

I am sure Roygbiv will be gathering opinions already. :)

I'm working lates which is really annoying (for many reasons) but all being well should have The Views up tonight and I'm expecting it to be a good one

So that's Sheffield United vs West Brom with Wilder installed as their new manager for the opening game of the season.

On a serious note I'm intrigued as to what sort of wage bill we now have for the new manager to work with, as we had the fourth lowest in the Championship in our promotion season. Have we now got the highest or has it increased significantly from where it was, but remains lower than other Championship clubs such as the massively overpaying Forest and Derbys of the division?

Fulham thread

Some of those posts are great:

"If he does go there he will sharpen them Blades.
:54:
Am I envious? You bet I am!"
"If it transpires he was available and we stuck with Parker over him, that for me would be the biggest f up Tony could make this year"
"Like finding out the ex-missus you never quite got over has found someone new and is probably going to look in even better nick than when you ditched her!"
"How many will Sheff Utd trounce us by?"
"When they spank us next season both home and away TK will have a whole load of egg on his face for letting him go."

If you live in St Albans then I can understand your pessimism, but I do not share it !!

Don't quite get the location jibe, especially as Slav did a promotion job for Watford just a few miles down the road.

Genuinely hope your optimism is realised for us all.
