Wilder won't let him go easily and as our longest continous serving player he should be the highest paid imo. It may not get close to what Toon could offer, but he seems settled here.

Either way, a legend and if he wants to cash in for the final year or two, then fair play to the lad.

The place wouldn't be the same without him though.
 
Think I’ll be saying “I told you so“. If Basham leaves we’ll see an example of what used to happen at Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough when previously average players would join them but look really good in their team....they’d be sold for big money....then look average again in another team.
For example O’Connell is brillant playing his overlapping role down the wing and he can put in a decent cross but he’ll never play that way at any other club.

I genuinely believe that Basham is
an average Championship standard centre back,
an average Championship standard fullback and
a below average Champiomship standard midfielder.
His versatily to play to a decent standard in 3 positions makes him really useful as a squad member.
However his stamina is so good that Wilder has come up with this genius idea to ask him to play all 3 positions at the same time in the same match.
He‘s obviously intelligent enough to understand our system and know when to make his forward runs pushing up into midfield or when to cover Baldock at right back.

Its the system that uses his strength and versatility....so he’s consistenrly looking much better than his standard....he’s currently brilliant for us.

If Newcastle use him as a centre back in a back 4.....you;ll see him struggle badly at PL level.
I suppose it all depends what tactics the Newcastle manager will employ....but when the takeover happens you suspect Bruce’s days will be numbered.

I would honestly let him go if he got a big money final contract offer. I think he has more than earned that over the years and we owe him that. We're going to need to replace him soon and it would allow us to bring someone who would go straight into the side.

As said above, I doubt he'll be the same player in another side.
 
Chuffing hope not. Reward him with a decent deal to see out his career. Better here than anywhere else!

Opened this thread expecting news of a flogging. I know he was hooked last night, but a dose of the old Saudi switch feels a bit excessive.

Here we fucking go. A week of reports of players wanting to leave because CW had a go at them and they can earn more elsewhere.
 
Everyone would clearly be gutted to see him go but we shouldn't begrudge him of a move. If he goes to Newcastle he could double/triple his wages and he would be playing on his doorstep so wouldn't have to commute every day. That's a win win when coming towards the twilight of your career. He'll never get the opportunity to do that again. He's been a loyal servant but loyalty means nothing if you've got the chance to set your family up for life.
 
Hope Basham stays like we all do, but if Newcastle come in with silly wage offers and a decent transfer fee then I'm sure Bash will have to consider it. He's had an outstanding season, player of the season for me - certainly the most consistent, and I'd love him to stay for the rest of his career but whatever he does he'll be a favourite for our fans - unless he joins Leeds maybe!
