Player Suggestion Striker alternatives

I get the comparison but I don't see that as a problem, as a poor man's Abraham. Tammy Abraham would probably cost £25m!

As Bruce Wayne says, the man is a cart horse. I wouldn't want us to sign him if we were still in the Championship.

Personally, I reckon Robinson is earmarked as much more of a striker role than CAM. So there will only be one more striker coming in.

Morrison will be the back-up CAM. Lundy and Osborn backup Centre Mid.

Two for each position basically. And then there's the second loan. Mount wouldn't be a surprise.

Why only one more striker coming in? There were five in total from Jan onwards (Sharp, McGoldrick, Hogan, Madine, Washington). Three have left and only one in so why would Utd risk being short? Depending on what happens with Maupay and McBurnie, I would expect CW to try for both initially and if not go for Madine if he doesn't get McBurnie and someone like Roofe if he doesn't get Maupay.

I think we'll get Gayle on loan - completely depends on new NUFC manager... but I do think we will be in for Gayle, and not a bad option on loan imo

Newcastle have just sold their second striker so far this window so looking less likely.

I don't think the five strikers you identify there, translates to the five strikers we have in the squad and have been connected with.

Madine and Hogan were brought in when Washington wasn't working out. We had five in the squad by necessity of one being inadequate, not by preference.

That team would be down before Christmas. Also rans in the attack and replacing Didsy and Billys intelligence . PL experience is the priority..

Harsh in my view but each to his own and all that! He's 26, got time to improve, he scored 13 goals last season and has got pace and strength. He's playing in the Championship and that's likely to be where most of our targets come from as Wilder said. He's not my first choice - that would be MAupay or McBurnie but I think he'd do a good job for us. I don't see any better in the Championship other than the top drawer players we've already been linked with.

100 Rumour Mill points to anyone who can suggest a good realistic alternative to McBurnie.
The big polish guy at brum is a decent shout.

Very good target man who scored a few

We should have 5 forwards at the club.

If we play 2 up front and have 2 on the bench, which we did all last season, then we are 1 injury away from not being able to do that with only 4.

I'd take Clarke as 5th if we can't sign another 2

Ok how about Carroll, Welbeck or Sturridge?
They'll do on a pay as they play deals. £100k pw players for 1 season to ensure the team survives, signing more also rans is just preparing to go back down ... Even Rooney might be worth a shout if he gets bored of MLS.

In that system I feel McBurnie would be suited better to the loan striker role.
IF, big IF we get him in, we were told Maupay was done, and it's strangely gone quiet, unless he's having his medical etc??
Our bids for Mcburnie have been batted away so far, so we need to be prepared.
I'm looking at the team we have currently, and not the "what if" team.

What about George Puscas?
The Romanian youth we were linked pretty fiercely with a couple of weeks back.
I know that he’s not British or Irish, but looked powerful, fairly quick and a tidy finisher.
Seems him and his agent are pretty desperate to get away from Palermo, and therefore might not dick about playing stupid games.

It seems likely that at best we will only end up with one of Maupay and McBurnie.

I think the consensus is that we will need to bring in at least 2 strikers this window, therefore who would you target as the second. Names mentioned so far;

Kemar Roofe
Britt Assombalonga
Lucas Joao
Dwight Gayle
Lys Mousset

Not keen on any of those 5 personally.

Abraham on loan from Chelsea might be pushing it a bit in terms of realism. And perhaps he's too similar to McBurnie.

Marriott would be realistic and perhaps closer to the Maupay style if it was him we missed out on. He'd be high up on my list to take a chance on.

Others I have mused over are Morelos (who Palace are now favourites to sign) and Isaac Success - but neither strike me as a CW type of player.

So my vote would go to Jack Marriott.

Yours?

From those options I would be tempted to take a punt on Assombalonga if the price was realistic. I like Roofe but we’ve just signed a no.10 in Robinson. We need a no.9.

Personally I still think we’ll get either McBurnie or Maupay. One way of another.

You want striker alternatives, eh? You can't handle striker alternatives!

Ligue 1: Lebogang Mothiba, Rémi Oudin, François Kamano, Rafael Leão & Umut Bozok

Serie A: Andrea Petagna, Duván Zapata!, Roberto Inglese, Khouma Babacar, Leonardo Mancuso (Serie B) & Ilija Nestorovski (Serie B)

La Liga: Borja Quintas,
Willian José, Jonathan Calleri, Luis Ávila, Loren Morón & Uroš Đurđević (Segunda)

Bundesliga: Jean-Philippe Mateta, Wout Weghorst, Sébastien Haller, Gianluca Waldschmidt, Nils Petersen, Alfreð Finnbogason, Jhon Córdoba (Bundesliga 2)

Two i doubt any interest in but thought I would throw out there

Hughill, West Ham lad formerly of PNE, might be a loan option if they don’t want, was the championships previous McBurnie

Vydra, option C probably but could be an option if other bids fail

We are after young, hungry players that will become financial assets for the club regardless of our divisional status. Freeman is worth more than we paid for him. Robinson will be worth more than we paid for him due to his contractual situation, as will Ben Osborn the 17/18 player of the year at Forest.
In the English market striker options that fit this criteria are few and far between. I think Maupay, Mcburnie and Marriott are the obvious candidates. Wilder wants four out and out strikers; Washington was signed as a stop gap after we failed to secure our top striker targets in last summer's transfer window. He was a spare part when we eventually obtained Hogan and Madine. I think Marriott is a very good player, but he would be the alternative to Maupay. Whilst Maupay has the better all round game in terms of his link play, Marriott is more of a natural goalscorer. I don't share the misgivings about his appearance record at Derby: I watched every televised Derby game last season and Marriott looked excellent in every one he played a part in. It was a black mark on Lampard rather than Marriott that he didn't feature more. Mcburnie is an outlier as there isn't really an alternative in Britain with the same profile and skillset. If we had to push the boat out, it'd be on this kid due to the lack of viable alternatives. Most of the other suggestions are too old or have bad injury history to consider signing permanently for big money. That said, I wouldn't rule out small fees or loans.

I can just about see Wilder going for Roberto Inglese :D

If I was to stick a quid on the strikers that would be here by the time the window closes.

Marriott would by my guess. Think he’s looks a decent prospect to be fair. Maybe a madine if Cardiff want to let him go cheaply for a 5th choice option.

There’s a deffo Gazzumping on maupay coming and that puts the pressure on the mcburnie deal.

If we miss out on some of our targets, then it wouldn’t surprise me if we offer 3 million for Madine,
although he’ll probably be wanted by Cardiff next season in the Championship.

God i hope not. Jack Marriott best newest option I've seen

Marriott if we cant get Maupay. Maupay has a better all round game than Marriott, but i think the Marriott is more of a natural finisher.

If we cant get McBurnie...then...er...get Brian Deane back. Put him in the same time machine that Wendies latest set of accounts have been in, and bob's your Uncle.
