Wilder contract

I can’t see why a new contract for Wilder is even under speculation whilst we don’t know who the owners are going to be or how long it may take to sort that out. I can see Prince A giving him a new deal - but less so new owners. But we need to see what happens over the next few weeks.

Absolutely spot on. Wilder is the only reason we have been in the Premier League in recent years. Had he not taken over when he did, I suspect we’d still be in League 1 or worse.
As you say … in order to compete in the PL you need to pay out big wages and recruit established players. Our ownership has simply never been able to do finance that.
People who criticise the way he left should remember how irrational supporting the Blades makes the average fan… so how bad must it be to watch all your hard work chucked away by an owner who can’t match your passion and ability?
Regardless of who he supports, he's paid to do a job. Part of that job is being able to manage his emotional responses, especially when he's the most senior football employee the business has.

We did reach it without him.

That’s absolutely correct but football is unlike anything else I know for clouding judgement… i don’t suppose he’s any more able to suspend his passion for the club than any of us… so I’m inclined to forgive him for reacting emotionally when he saw his (and his colleagues) efforts being wasted.

I think it was a lot more to do with him seeing his seemingly unending rise halted and his aura of invincibility smashed. He went from winning awards to helpless almost overnight.

He's undoubtedly a fan but I think 20/21 was a lit more to do with his own ego than United struggling.

Were you cheering when we won division one with a100 points after 6 fucking years in the division, beat the pigs 2-4 in arguably one of most pleasing victories for donkeys and then achieving promotion to the premier league and then finishing 9th?
I'm not an accountant, just trying to balance the books with your argument.
He's already been handsomely rewarded for that , to say nothing of the big payoff when he walked out.
Just leave things as they are for a while and let's see how we go.
No point club going looking for problems or fans whittling about stuff.

There may have been a little of that too but he’s human and more importantly to my initial point … he’s the best manager the club has ever had and entirely responsible for our recent successes… so I’m happy to take some ego and emotion alongside. It’s all subjective - hopefully even his worst critics will get behind what he’s doing now because the squad he’s put together in this window is miraculous given the backdrop…. And I’m looking forward to more of the brilliant football that we’ve already seen. UTB.

We need to get him a new deal ASAP.

We seem to be having a love in from Sky which is unusual and Wilder’s names seems to be spoken about in high regard across England.

I believe his contract is up at the end of the season. Needs to be sorted as a priority.
Just reposting this as this was 100% correct.

He’s got a contract, why were you correct?

Who’s looking to take him off us?
Well to be honest statically he’s the best manager in the league. So would say pretty much everyone in the championship would want him.

They all seem to have managers of their own! I think we’ll be ok for the time being.

I think he's definitely got his mojo back and hes lost some timber as well, personally I think he's a one club manager, it's one of those weird things that happens to certain coaches, if (and it's a long way off) he gets us promoted ( I think the January window will define our season) he will deserve another crack at it but signing him up for a new long term who knows??
I'd hate him to go through the mental and physical anguish he went through again

Recruitment this season has been excellent. Don’t know how much of that was down to CW but assume he can take a good deal of the credit. However his past record has been patchy, over paying for poor players and buying players who never really played or who didn’t make the step up required. His latest folly was Grbic. He has a good record for recruiting in L1 and the Championship but has he got what it takes to recruit if we were to get promoted this season? I don’t think he is likely to be attractive as a Manager by other clubs nor would he probably want to go elsewhere. He fits us and vice versa and I wouldn’t want to lose him at this stage but I don’t think we need to rush out and give teased contract at this stage.

I'm sure there's regular dialogue between him & the owner and it's really none of our business to ventilate the subject of his contract - why rock the boat just now ?
If he wants an extended contract he can ask the Prince but after all the success , then the walkout , then the re-hiring , I think it's best left between the two of them.
Not really a subject for us to debate in the same way as perhaps player contracts are.

Wilder didn't sign Gribic. Look at all the keepers Wilder has had starting for him in his time here as number ones. They've all been pretty decent, 2 of which are in the current England set up and Cooper is quality.

Wilder has signed some shit in the past, some of it expensive, but which manager hasn't? He's also signed some absolute pearlers, that are club legends. McGoldrick turned out as an absolute star, but it was a gamble, due to his past injury record.

Look at the signings we made last season, the majority of them have been moved on. The players we've recruited this year are on the whole a lot better than we recruited in the prem.

Wilder has done some shit things and some good, but I think you have to give him credit so far this season. He's rebuilt a whole new side, with a totally new system, on a small budget and with the background of all the takeover nonsense. Slav wasn't very successful in trying to change the style of play and formation. I didn't think Wilder could change from a back 3, but he has. He's put a whole new team together, after getting hammered every week. Changed the worst defence in to the best.

Don't think anyone would have expected us to be joint top and unbeaten at this stage in the season. Without the points deduction we would be 2 clear. There's a long way to go and things can change very quickly, but so far Wilder is currently exceeding expectations.

If we get promoted this year, and at the end of the season loose our two best players ( arguably Souza and Hamer, they are our players), they spend very little on transfer fees and salaries, then the recruitment will look as bad next year as it did last.
Simple🤷‍♂️
The premier league is a whole different ball game, so let’s just enjoy what’s happen in the here and now

I agree with most of you post, but I find it bizarre that you seem to be saying that he signed all of the best keepers and none of the worst ones ??

It would be a terrible start to the new owner's tenure if they don't offer Wilder a contract extension. He's definitely earned it.
We've got a great bond with him and the only thing that should be allowed to break that bond is a long run of bad results, certainly not because of a failure to extend his contract.

IN WILDER WE TRUST! UTB!

Where’s he going next if we don’t offer him one? I don’t see the rush.

Somewhere that treats him with respect?

Edit: If a baffoon like Steve Bruce can get countless good jobs over the years, then don't think Wilder can't.

He’s tried elsewhere since he was last at the Blades, I don’t think he’s getting a PL job, there aren’t any jobs in this league he’d rather have than us. He’s not going anywhere.

Wait until the end of the season and then look at a 2 or 3 year deal.

Football is fickle, typically we’re a fickle bunch as well. It’s all well and good getting carried away after derby win and a few songs from the manager but there’s no need to rush,

Exactly this, reward him for his success when he earns it. Right now we need him, but he also needs us.

I can't see there being any issue with this at all. My understanding was that it was all drafted and agreed in principal, but is awaiting ownership finalities before signing from both parties.

Basically both ownership parties had agreed no major contracts to be signed until all concluded, I am told
