Wilder contract

No rush for a contract yet.....let's see where we are in January when we've played every team
and the way the takeover is going....it'll probably be January until it goes through.

Put it this way....if we lose 3 or 4 in the next 5 matches....then you can bet....loads on here will be screaming "Wilder out".

As already mentioned, no PL and almost every Championship club would go near him.
His main offers will come from league 1 clubs (Bolton or Rotherham are probably the best offers there).
Think a struggling Championship club might also be interested...someone like Hull City.

but he's not leaving here to join Hull City.

Absolutely nonsense spouted here. He's clearly one of the best managers at championship level. Main offers league one. 🤣

I feel embarrassed reading that tbf.

Is that really how you rate him as a manager?

I rate him as the best manager I've seen us have and was one of the few that thought it was a no brainer to bring him back
He gave me my best time supporting United in 50 years and will always appreciate that and buy him a drink.
Also think he's easily one of the best managers outside the Premier league.
He oversteps the mark slightly but I love his passion, would rather have that than a boring Mr Monotone.

but I've spoke to fans from other clubs, also read loads of forums when a manager position is available
and for some reason...he's really unpopular (even more unpopular than when we had Warnock) and hardly any fans of other clubs seem to rate him.

He's rebuilding his damaged reputation but I think most neutrals think he has a special link with Sheff Utd and can only do it here.
Hope he gets promotion with us and has another chance to put 2 fingers up these doubting fans and show his abilities in the Premier league.

I think Wilder has realized that he is a brilliant Sheffield United manager, but an average manager elsewhere (Above L1). I think a lot of fans would agree with this too.
His record since leaving before was below average to say the least but there is just something about him with us, everything just seems to click into place.
Since he left, we had Slav who was poor, then Hecky who basically just went back to playing Wilders system (slight tweaks) and always seemed to lack a plan B outside of that system. I think a financially backed Wilder could see us promoted, and safe the following season, then it's a case of if the financials allow us to push on further.
The covid season and a half seemed to affect us as a club worse than most, and Wilder seemed to be hit hard by it all, so I am maybe being a bit generous for that period.

Have you forgotten the last 2 years of his management (here, Boro and Watford) ?
He's blotted his copy book and his reputation has been seriously, almost permanently damaged.
He's slowly building it back up but needs a promotion to be back in demand at Championship level again.
I'm pleased for him, went from hero to zero and now could be back to being hero again....what a journey?

Look at the stats at boro they weren't as bad as made out. Xg suggested they would come good. Watford was a basket case short term appointment and anyone judging anyone on that is not looking at the bigger picture

What he's done with us over the summer and this season is easily up there and above anyone in the league

Hes a good fit for us But lets not get carried away. hope he learned his lesion after the billy big bollocks shite he came out with the last time it went tits up. But for now wilder is doing a cracking job and long may it continue

We need to get him a new deal ASAP.

We seem to be having a love in from Sky which is unusual and Wilder’s names seems to be spoken about in high regard across England.

I believe his contract is up at the end of the season. Needs to be sorted as a priority.
3 months later.

Thought I would sit on my high horse.

He isn’t going anywhere else, no other club he’s managed at in the Championship has a good word to say about him.

He’s good for us and hopefully him and the club realise that the days of asking for a new contract after a few wins are long gone.

Get him on a decent deal before the end of the season and we’ll be fine. If we go up and don’t invest he’ll be suicidal by September so might walk anyway.

Somewhere that treats him with respect?

It’s the old conundrum for us. Wilder is the perfect fit at championship level but he’s no PL manager. He’s more than capable of getting us promoted (as he’s proving) but with money to spend and top flight managers and world class oppositions he’s no match.

The conundrum is if we get promoted (beware the inevitable bad run of games) do we give in to the “he’s earned his chance” brigade (eg Hecky) or make it worth his while to move sideways, upstairs, out to pasture……

Difficult one, if we get new owners and a war chest, shake hands, if we are on a shoestring hang on to Wilder for the inevitable Championship champagne the following season is my position.

It's very black and white to me. If Chris gets us promoted he will have literally earned the club 10s (100s?) of millions of pounds. He's not only overseen, but bashed into place, a complete rebuild of the club on the playing side. We now have some top young players on long decent contracts again, and less not good enough players picking up a wage. He has changed our identity on the pitch and got us playing modern, winning football again.

FFS, let's give the bloke credit where credit is definitely due. He deserves a new contract with all the frills that come with the job he is doing. This January is crucial. If we can somehow find a few bob to bring in 3 or 4 good signings to compliment what we already have then we might not need to go barmy with money in the summer to compete in the mini league to finish 4th bottom of the prem.

Chris knows the score, it's a cut throat business in the PL. If we are struggling really badly after 12-15 games then it may well be the time to look elsewhere. That is what virtually every other club does. We should be no different. But it should be done with some form of dignity. Pay the man the money for the job he has done - ie the contract and pay-off. If we part ways, then lets be as positive as we can about it. He's one of our own. He gets us and we get him. I wouldn't begrudge him a penny and would wish him every success in any future role.

Agree with every word. Get to the new year, and give CW a new contract. It's the right thing to do for both parties.

There will be no new contracts for Wilder or any players until this supposed takeover is resolved. This is why it needs resolving in December or shelving until next summer. This prolonged farce simply cannot be allowed to continue otherwise there is a risk it could destabilise the fantastic job Wilder has done so far this season.

When Wilder spent we finished 9th the PL.

Takeover needs to be resolved one way or another to also solve this. No need to do anything now but everyone needs job security and I wouldn't bet against a number of our youngsters being a bit nervous if Wilder isn't offered a new contract by end of Jan transfer window.

He believes in them, he has given them (partly because he has had to) opportunity and trust. I very much doubt there are many managers who would come in and do the same.

If no takeover is finalised, I would be giving him a year extension before JTW.

Who knows what happens if we get taken over...

This is the same Chris Wilder that got us a top half finish in the Premier League? I cant hold the covid relegation against him, our fans have always been the 12th man, far better than most Prem fans (or they were back then anyway) And last season no one could have kept us up with that squad.

Think then its clear then that some of our fans simply don't think Wilders a properly good manager.

Wonder if it's at all influenced by the opinions of other clubs/fans. Because we finished 9th in his first season in the premier, which is likely a far better record than any other manager we'd attract, and there's definitely extenuating circumstances for the other premier seasons.

I remember a lot of the same fans thought we had no chance this season. He was a spent force. Has been.

Yet we're top of the league.

I think wilder has a decent reputation at championship level , if anyone was going for a safe pair of hands and to build a promotion team he's probably In the top few with farke and parker , but his off field antics probably put him further behind those 2 than he should realistically be

Fuck me. Wilder, Farke, and Parker.

Not comparable. Wilder is on another planet managerial ability wise compared to those two. Wilder's learnt lessons, got better, had the arrogance knocked off, and is hungry for success and to prove the doubters wrong. I see even Pep can have disappointing seasons...

I wouldn't swap Wilder as SUFC boss for anyone. He's just entering his prime. Enjoy it Blades. I certainly am.

Too many unknowns for the subject of CW contract to be worthy of discussion.
The Prince & he will have an understanding which will remain confidential.

For me takeover or no takeover - we must secure Wilder on a new contract asap. If I recall his current contract only lasts until the end of May 2025…. It’s a no brainer and madness not to act asap. 40 pts from 18 games is justification enough!

Wilder has never had a chance at a club with PL resources. He probably never will have. If United go up and are looking highly likely to go down (expected) they should use their common sense and back him to get us back up.Hecky's sacking was harsh too tbh

If we got a Forest level owner it'd be very interesting to see what Wilder was capable of imo.

Parker's a big gamble. He's only ever done it with big money. If you are a parachute club spending huge money, yes.
