Wilder contract

If we are in top 6 at start of December - yes I’d agree to give him a new deal in preparation for the January window - for exactly the reasons you say. But now is way too early…..let’s see how we shape up against, Leeds, Burnley, Sunderland and others over the coming months. There is no immediate rush as Wilder needs us right now to rebuild his reputation. Personally I think he’ll prove himself.

Far too early to be thinking of new contracts, wait till January, see how it is. The test of a good manager is when teams start losing , Wilder couldn't correct it 2years ago or last season, had no plan B last time and then walked, now back down a level he's been given another chance, let's hope for all blades it works out and we can get back to our best, but be patient

I understand why people have reservations after how he left, but he’s the best man for the job. I don’t think there is a realistic manager out there who has a better pedigree or track record.

Totally agree.....but also we are the best (probably the only) club for Wilder.

Extending contracts is normally about protecting an asset.....like we did with Sidie Peck.
However this doesn't apply to Wilder because his stock is still so low....that there's nothing to protect.
He has no options and no other club will be remotely interested in appointing him at this level.

However I think this is more about....the new owners showing a vote of confidence.

It's very common for new investors to instantly have big ambitions and often they'll prefer to bring in their own choice of manager ASAP.
So when the new owners are finally in.....it could affect Wilder in a negative way.....because he won't know where he stands regards trust.

Obviously the new owners will give Wilder re-assuring words about his future but Wilder knows words mean very little.
However if he's offered a 2 or 3 year contract then he knows the new owners are fully behind him.
This will boost/ recharge Wilders desire and motivation....which should create a better atmosphere within the club.

Personally I'd wait until Nov/ Dec time before offering contract extensions, which I think is reasonable.
This is not a normal negotiation because the club holds all the power. Wilder has no other options.

In that case he will accept it without too many unreasonable demands. Win-win all round.

Thought it was the day to day running of the club full stop.
Well the way i read it was interfering regarding transfers and the day to day running of the club . I also read that the F A had complaints from other clubs about third parties getting involved in transfer talks and they had got in touch with the Blades telling them that is was against rules . Now that's what I read .Can't remember where i read it but it was several weeks ago .

As you say lets hope it works ,I think we can all agree on that for a change but no one could be critical about how he has reshaped the team without having wads of cash . Yes we could do with a few more signings but I think he has done a really good job getting in the numbers and quality players he has managed attracted often players who had a choice of clubs .

I think he is the only manager in the league with less than a year on his current contract and he’s the manager with the most promotions.

I’m not saying give him the keys to the club. Just give a 2/3 year deal as these days it’s about what the amount they receive upon sacking. Keep that the same then it’s basically a piece of paper that shows some confidence for new arrivals etc.

If we win another couple of games the fans will be paranoid about him walking so will want it as well.
Fickle and paranoid, quite the combination.
I honestly don’t think anyone would have him now.

He was hot property a few years ago, small budget promotions, innovative tactics. Now he’s just a badge thumping manager who only likes buying British players because they have a beer at a weekend.

Not all fans are fickle . I for one welcomed him back because i thought he was right for the job from game one in the prem . I think we all knew how last season was going to end before a ball was kicked . But as you say there are some fickle ones ,before the watford game there were rumblings on here thinking he should go and thats before we lost one now not so many . But it won't take much for them to reappear .

I think if we put a run together and we’re in and around the top 6 in December you’ll have fans panicking given he’s out of contract in a few months time.
As my post pointed out, him being poached isn’t actually the main reason we should be offering a deal.

If he does as he promised and ‘unites the fans and players’ then I have no issue with him staying.

I sympathised with Hecky because he was dealt a shit hand and had to manage, turns out he signed a lot more ‘misses’ than ‘hits’ with the limited budget we had.

Wilder has come in and the latter part of the season was similar to the start. This season though he seems to have signed good players with a limited scope for fees and wages, also against a backdrop of uncertainty. It remains to be seen how the team perform but hopefully those backing Wilder are proved right and he does a good job.

I wouldn’t want him spending money in the PL again but we’ll cross that bridge if we get there.

Agree….his stock is so low…..no other Championship club will go near him.

The club holds all the power and Wilder has no other options so there’s no rush.

Altho I wanted Wilder to replace Heckingbottam, my reason was because we were his last chance saloon. His career was virtually over so I knew he’d be more determined than ever. He is literally fighting for his livelihood.

He’s doing well so far but it’s what I expected of him in the Championship but the irony is……if we’d have lost to Watford then the noisy minority on social media would be screaming for him to be sacked.

Let’s wait until Xmas and see where we are just before the Jan transfer window.
Totally agree.

If it is a new contract, i hope it's on the same terms, with an extended duration, but heavily incentivised on success. If we've just doubled his wages and lengthened the term, then we've lost the plot...

Solid to strong start to the season after a very tricky rebuild that's half done and some still don't think we should at least secure him beyond May....

Meanwhile on pigs forum they are debating if their manager would have the "5 or 10 million" release clause triggered if they were still struggling come sacking season

Pigs manager is viewed as a bright up & comer using them as a stepping stone & he managed to polish a turd last season at a club whose ownership isn’t well regarded in the football world. He’s more likely to be in demand than Wilder (whether or not that’s actually deserved, which isn’t the point of this post). He’s likely to move on to better than them, Wilder won’t manage a bigger club than us.

He's got a hair cut and an accent. Other than that hes just another mid table championship manager who was able to turn a side that probably should have been that into it.

Now if he was taking a side from league one to the premier league in quick time like McKenna or indeed Wilder then I could understand it.

tell him he'll get one at the end of the season when the takeover goes through then shaft him abit like what Southampton did to Adkins.

As you can see, I’ve reserved judgment on the rights & wrongs. But as well as the haircut & accent there is also the big club background and his age. Similarly with McKenna. The age is a big thing - no baggage & no failure on their CVs yet. All things that are attractive to the owners of aspirational clubs.

He is responsible for 2 of the worst ever relegations. To do this he has spent more than the entire 135yr history of our transfer budget combined. He has only just managed to win a home game, our first since December 23 and his PL PPG remains .48.
if my investment group, wanted to put a record like that in charge of my funds investment performance , I would be soon gone.

Not sure he was responsible for the 2nd relegation.

What about Harmer Souza ?

Alright Hecky, give it a rest mate...

Joking aside, you do make a valid point. If our new owners have any aspirations of 'doing a Brentford' then r'Chris will be on borrowed time (see Smith, Dean). I have every confidence he can compile a side in the Championship which will be ultra competent, give 100%, and punch well above it's weight.

It when we come up against elite Sporting Programmes full of 6ft 2in decathletes who mismatch us all over the pitch week after week where the questions are screaming loud. Being a miserable/negative cnut for a moment, Souttar and Moore aside we still look very physically underwhelming as a team of elite athletes....

He is also responsible for two of the best promotions on a limited budget.

Are we doubling his wages ?
