Here we are Xmas day and the blades are 5th in the league, every blade should have a big beaming smile of their faces at the wonder of Chris Wilder,Alan Knil, coaching, backroom staff and the team a truly amazing position half way into the season.
Because of this it has made us dream even more, dreams of finishing in a European spot for next year.
As amazing as this would be and a big part of me wants this to happen I don’t think this would be good moving forward.
We have an amazing first team with some good back ups in certain positions but as a squad to play in Europe we would need another big summer spending spree and I don’t think we have the funds available.
I heard a report saying that at the moment we are unable to give Lundstrum and Wilder improved contracts due to the uncertainty of the appeal with McCabe still ongoing and the proposed buy out in the summer(probably using premiership money)
Wolves have done superbly since coming up a couple of years ago and have managed the Europa league/premiership combination really well due to great financial backing the last few years.
For me finishing in the top half, just missing out on Europe ,in the summer the prince buys McCabe out for approx £50million and we move on towards the next season hopefully pushing further next year ...UTB ⚔️

That’s a bit like fans of a Championship team not wanting promotion because it’s too early and the club aren’t ready.

Wilder himself has made it clear we’re not going to suddenly triple everyone’s wages. Any players that want to leave for higher money are likely to see their careers stall...Duffy being an example.

I think we should allow less committed players to leave and we’ll bring in replacements. The club is bigger than any player.

The beauty is we can allow any individual player to leave and it would hardly effect the team. Also Wilder has shown in the Championship that our reserve players can slot in and do a great job.

Unlike previous seasons I’m not worried about selling players or players refusing to sign contracts. It’s a free market and they would leave with my best wishes and thanks for their services.

Wise words, but fuck that.
Go for it. 20k Blades supping San Miguel on tap. COYRAWW.

General consensus from general fans is that they'd love the prospect of Europe but at the same time, with the clubs best interest in mind we are content with PL football without the risk of squad burnout resulting in relegation.

Says who? Who are all these 'general fans' and how did you ask all of them?

I'd love us to get into Europe. Why the hell not. Deal with the squad issues when they come.

If we've learnt anything in the past few years it's surely that with this squad and manager anything is possible.

We’d just be entered into another cup competition, it doesn’t mean we need to go all out to win it. If we get into Europe, we’d more than likely go out at the group stage rotating the squad in the process.

The prize money from a higher finish would help massively. So the higher we end up, the better.

Say we got to the Europa League group stage, what would be your ideal group?

Yeah fuck it. Life is short. We could be Norwich or Villa and "maybe" go down this season and face a year of championship shite again. I'd rather flip a coin and have the prospect of a few Europa games next year to look forward to as opposed to Wigan, Millwall or fucking Hull.

We won't qualify for Europe through our league position this season.

We won't stay in the Premier League forever, either.

So, if the rare possibility arises that we can qualify for Europe (or win the FA Cup for that matter), take the opportunity. Football is meant to be about glory, and that doesn't happen very often.

It's a bit like Jennifer Lawrence or Charlize Theron coming onto me in a big way at a Hollywood glitzy party, and asking me to supply the seed, but me thinking of turning it down as after I've had a go with either of them, shagging the missus of 15 years might mean I can't get it up anymore as it will be a disappointment each time thereafter.

Mmhhh. Its one to consider. Right I've considered it, and Ms Lawrence should get herself lubed up pronto, as she's about to meet my horn of plenty (or captain maggot as my Missus would probably say). I'll buy the Missus flowers tomorrow and take her out for a meal to make it up to her, whilst still grinning from ear to ear and smelling of Ms Lawrence's intimate love scent on my bean pole.

Sometimes in life you take the opportunity which presents itself when you can, as life is short.

Europe for United / skewering Ms Lawrence, both ASAP, gets my vote every time.

I read a lot of posts on here and it's definitely the recurring opinion.

Even when we are doing well, we still have some fans who really don't want us to do any better it seems. So your rationale for not wanting to gain a European place is because it would mean we'd have to spend more money on the team and we can't afford to do that? That's your argument in a nutshell isn't it?

Well how about this. We try our best to qualify for Europe and if we do get there and can't afford to buy any more players we just go with what we've got? That's cost-effective isn't it? And if it means we get knocked out early - so what? We'll still have had the pleasure of getting there and the prize money that comes with that will help us to buy some players later on.

I'm sorry pal. I thought by now, most fans would have come round to the idea that you have to seize the opportunities when they are there - regardless. When we went up to the Championship from League 1 I found myself exasperated at some fans on here who were talking about "consolidation". Because I thought we were better than that (having just steamrollered every team in sight in League 1 and got 100 points). When we went up to the Premiership this season I found myself exasperated at some fans who were talking about being happy with 4th bottom. Because I think we should be more ambitious than that and would hold our own. And now, here we are, 5th in the Prem with a chance of a European place and we've now got the opposite scenario - "try and finish lower"!

I don't know what colour the sky is in your world me owd, but I'm glad I'm not living in it.

Fuck Europe, let’s get relegated. Who needs success, when we can go back to the ignominy of League One, and these romantic ties against giants like Walsall, Shrewsbury and Peterborough?

Sometimes I truly despair.

Just ask yourself one question - Will CWAK want us to qualify for European football?

I think the FA Cup is the way to go this season, with the threat of relegation almost over and a non league club at home. We won’t get a much better chance to give it a real go and make the final or even win it.

Bloody hell some of that's very depressing..

I've been coming round to the idea of this more in the past few weeks, at the end of the day, Europe = even greater pull power. Yes we would need to spend, but also we could attract some great up and coming players who will want to put themselves on the stage rather than be out for a paycheck...

At the end of the day, which top championship player is gonna turn down Europa League football for a cold Tuesday night in Barnsley? I reckon we are 6 players off a squad which can compete in Europe and PL... doable in summer!
