For this reason I think we need to be pragmatic and use more of what we have rather than insisting on an agent fee busting approach.
It doesn’t take a lot to make an average team a good one with the right additions.
For that reason, I’d like to see us experiment a little in the remaining games.
I think for instance the current team is more suited to played 3-5-2 or 3-5-1-1 which got us up in prior years.
I’d look at this team and I’ll tell you why:
Faxon
Tanganga McGuinness Bindon
Seriki Brooks Riedewald Peck Burrows
Cannon Bamford
We don’t have a plethora of wingers. Instead of show horning players into wide roles like Hamer try a system which uses the current guys better.
Faxon? We know Davies’ limits. We don’t know if Faxon can be our Pierce Charles or if he’s miles off.
Tanganga isn’t as dominant as we’d like but he can also play wide and might suit a right centre back role.
We may well be stuck with McGuinness. Can he perhaps be a dominant head it kick it centre back in the middle of a three?
Burrows and Seriki have limitations but they can get forward. So play then to their strengths and before any summer recruitment, have Bindon provide that insurance.
No reason to lose the Brooks link with Seriki. Why not try a three in the middle and have Brooks to the right cutting in and Peck to the left cutting in?
Riedewald or Soumaré as DM. Then either O’Hare off Bamford or give Cannon a run in this for Mario and try and get balls in the box for once.
Why waste these games? We may find a use for some players.
Gus will be off, so sub him in but e won’t be the future of the team next year.
