At the risk of pissing on everyone's chips and making myself as popular as Jimmy Saville at a kids party, I'm starting to wonder when it will stop.

I'm mostly worried about the players (and Wilder) thinking they've achieved something insurmountable. It's Division Three. We should have been out of here a long time ago. If we rest on our laurels, we'll be back her in no time.

I'd like to see them coming out saying, the real work starts now etc

Right, I'm off to fire flares and smoke bombs into the local nursery school...

Im sorry mate but that's bollocks!
I'm not 40 yet, I've seen fuck all success.
You are only as good as the League you play in and we fucking walked it.
I know where you are coming from but don't give into pig pressure, if they ever won anything there would be a bank holiday.
Be proud of us, failing that don't shit on the ones that are proud.

You're right, but its taken 6 seasons and countless overpaid managers and players to achieve this. We've suffered in this league with no end of shite and problems.

When we achieved promotion, we didn't do what the previous managers haven't come close to, play off's. We've won the league by 14 clear points of 2nd place, top goalscorer with 30 goals, 30 wins, big unbeaten runs and exceptional support.

Why not celebrate it? Why not let the players, manager and staff, many of whom won't be around in a year, lead the celebrations over a 4 week period and really savour the feeling.

You can guarantee that the sports psychologists at the club will be using these moments next season if we have a bad spell, to drive the players on again

Wilder has shown discipline, the players have shown discipline, over 46 games and if they want to celebrate a third division title with the fans, i'm more than happy with that.

But yes, you're right. Its only Division 3

But it doesn't... Not immediately.

We've won the league at a canter with a squad of players who have shown discipline, restraint and commitment (since September!)

They have a week of celebrating then a good month of holidays before the work starts again... if any of them survive Vegas.

Wilder was at pains to point out the sacrifices they and their families have made so it has been a case of work hard and now play hard.

Let them enjoy their fun.

As for the behind the scenes stuff, our league position throughout the latter half of the season should have given the board and management enough advanced warning that we should be planning for next season in the division higher. They'll have targets, but no business gets concluded really until the end of June.

They might just have sobered up by then.

Over to CW for the 2nd installment.

I understand, but I don't think Wilder would think like that. I suspect that when he gets back from Vegas he will be as driven as he has been for the last nine months.

Just think what it will be like when we win something more substantial eh. We can only win the league we are in. We won it in some style. Lots of Blades passion. Let everyone celebrate as hard as they like. Back down to earth soon enough. There are enough pig fans trying to piss on our parade.

I'm going to put it out there, and I'm sure a lot of people won't agree, but in my mind not going up in 2012 as runners up or playoff winners, in 2013 in the playoffs, in 2015 in the playoffs, and not even being in contention in 2014 and 2016, it's all been worth it because without that lead-up we wouldn't have had this absolutely special season. We could have been promoted in any of those years and we'd have missed what has been a phenomenal record-setting year. Damned right we should celebrate it.

Motivate players - tick
Sensible recruitment- tick
Create excellent team ethos - tick
Re-engage with fans - tick
Dominate league - tick
Win promotion by a street - tick
Celebrate success to date - tick

Plan for next hurdle - ongoing

Job not complete but what's not to celebrate so far?

Look at all the kids there, they will always remember this like we do our previous successes and become the Blades obsessives of the future.

Its certainly been celebrated to the max but as others have said the players and manager deserve it and the fans. Its cleat that all the celebrating shows the great team spirit in the team and that's essential and celebrating days like today brings everyone together. I don't see it as embarrassing (as the odd fan has said), since, as a comparison, Wednesday did this and finished 2nd as a few have pointed out. Yes it is division 3 but as we have proved 5 times before its not an easy league to get out of. The real work started last summer but a lot of what's already in place will out us in good stead for next season.

You post some really good stuff ILTM, but unfortunately this isn't one of your better posts mate. Firstly, the main reason it seems to have 'gone on' is because of the way we've mullered the league, and so every game since Northampton has been a party. If we'd gone up like Bolton have it would be a one or two off, but....

I think we need to celebrate EVERYTHING good that comes our way in football as if there's no tomorrow because as in life, who knows when and if something better will come along for players and fans. I'd have gone even more mental when we won the 4th division if I'd known I'd have to wait another thirty odd years to better it.

And don't be fooled by the saddos at S6's comments, they've got promoted out of this 'tinpot' division twice in the last 12 years and milked the life out of it. The fact that it was only down to beating Hartlepool and our main man getting sent down the line didn't sour it for them one bit. Enjoy! :) UTC!

You need lows to appreciate the highs.

Though I understand where the op is coming from. The above is exactly why they should be doing what they are.

I'll be sat in Legion one day and one of these whipersnappers will be arguing that Sharp was as good as Deane, I'll say nah, Edwards was the man.

The bottom line is that after promotion we will be in a league that's one lower than the top flight, where we have been for most of our history. We have no divine right to be there, but I'm sure all our older fans will agree that a club of our stature should either be playing with the best or knocking on the door of the top flight. Anything less is under achieving

Of course we should celebrate promotion (and god knows I have) but let's not lose sight of the bigger picture, and our club's history. We have been a top flight club for around 80 percent of our existance, and the top flight is the target now.

You can only play what's in front of you.
And we did that.
With style.
And flair.
And commitment.
And then some...

"It's only division three"

Tell you what pal, you go assemble a team and manage them to 100 points in a professional league. Then I might agree that it's not a big deal.

As shown by countless teams that have ended up in that division (and by us five times) it's a lot easier to fail than it is to succeed.

I found that post a bit under appreciative and insulting to the manager, staff and players but each to their own.
