We were more or less even until Burnley scored. Neither team looked like scoring. Then our right back switches off and we're one down.

Start of the second half, were piling on the pressure and an equaliser is vert much a possibility. Then they get a freak goal and it's game over. We know we're never going to get two against the Burnley defence.

So, not a good performance, but seriously not wrist slitting stuff..

Piling on the pressure?

Typical Blades performance against a top team, that’s Leeds, Boro and Burnley that we’ve not bothered scoring against.

We have a team capable of grinding out wins against poorer teams, however when a bit of quality is needed we are sadly lacking.
Sunderland too, until they had a man sent off... First 30 mins of that game we looked flat footed and lacked imagination.

Against the better teams we've shown the exact same qualities that made us one of the worst PL teams ever. Slow of feet and mind!!

So even if we do somehow sneak promotion, we're a long way short of where we'd need to be to not come straight back down like a stone.

Needed
Right back
Centre midfielder
Attacking midfielder X 2

IMO a centre half
5 players all quality not squad fillers

We're still top and hopefully stoke will do us a favour?

Will the new owners replace wilder (massive unknown) depends ? is des Taylor still involved (has he formed an opinion of CW ) and does he have much influence with them

what a set of tossers most of you lot are ..... despite being short in depth ,having a small squad & not having quality strikers which has been plain to see you stand there bleating & saying how crap the manager is. Piss off elsewhere if you can't appreciate that. I think tactically we ought to have played to our defensive strength today & not left the right side of defence open and exposed. The 2nd goal was a fluke so stop crying mardy arses

Good management is finding a formation and tactics to suit what you have at your disposal.

Bad management is picking a formation that you don't have players for and playing others out of position to accommodate it.

This has been the story of our season and why the performances have been consistently poor on the ball. Off the ball we are generally solid. With it we are lethargic, predictable, negative, static and constantly outnumbered from no one committing forwards, or not committing forwards quick enough.

We need bodies in urgently as our bench today was a joke for a team top of the table.
We need a good manager then. Get this joker out and we'd be unbeaten and 10 points clear at the top, even with half the squad being kids.

Don’t usually post on here but feel I’ve got to reading some of the reactions to this. Yes we have obviously lost to a rival but wasn’t much in the game really, the second goal was a very lucky deflection. We aren’t in a false position we have played every team and accumulated 48 points which is a great return which ever spin you want to put on it. We will bring in a few in January and kick on again in my opinion.
I couldn't agree more. The game was exactly what I expected. Tight defensively and decided by the only real bit of quality. I didn't think Burnley were anything extraordinary. If anything it shows how big the gap is between the Premier League and the championship, as both these clubs were woeful last season, but are currently sat in the top two.

Come on we've been brilliant so far, one bad result and some turn on the team and manager like wolves.....:(
Our league position and results have been brillant, performances less so.

Its not “one result” either, Leeds and Boro out of the top teams have done us too.

Let’s see how we can react

Fully agree, for me promotion is a financial necessity and will result in another season of embarrassment.

Love morons like you!! You're so funny

Spend the first part of your paragraph slagging those off for slagging the team off and then spend the second half saying we should have done things differently!

Unless you're post is ironic, i put it to you sir, you're a bit of a wally who probably needs a hug!

Burnley’s defence is very good, perhaps the best I have seen at this level since we came up from League one.

If they add a bit of attacking power in January they will win The league imo.

We might need Leeds to fall apart again.

He’s absolutely terrified of being completely exposed. I think these setups are a safety blanket for him. We aren’t exactly rolling over the dregs of the division either. A year on I’m still far from close to understanding the long term sense in bringing him back.
Perhaps bringing him back was never a long term plan. Maybe it was steadying the ship thing, ironically a bit like the job Hecky did when he was brought in.

In which case I’d expect to see the conversation regarding an extension to die down quickly.

Was it that good or were we just very one dimensional and predictable?

They gave us 1 opportunity to score when Davies was allowed in at the back post, apart from that they just allowed us to pass the ball in front of them. The through balls we tried were either poor or didn’t have a willing runner. Our crosses were poor and we did lots of backwards and sideways passing.

Have to admit that result has been coming for a while. We haven’t played well but have nicked results through dogged determination but little attacking flair.
I can’t help but feeling that we didn’t show any intent from the start and set up to be defensive, despite the attacking players on the pitch.

Zero width and zero creativity particularly first half.

Thought Davies was good again. Would have preferred to see him and Vinny from the start.
Wilder has done wonders since the end of last season but I think we should have showed more attacking intent for the start.

Burnley are solid without being that good and I think we have played better attacking teams than that so far.

Still top and with some strengthening in the next couple of weeks, we should be ok.

I’m not saying I’m right, it’s just how it looks to me.

If we do go up, we need a waaay better strategy than last time

They have conceded 9 goals all season…. 9….

Yes it is that good

Absolutely agree.

I’ve also long held the opinion that a manager shouldn’t be treated any differently to squad members upon promotion.

There should be fair assessment over whether the manager is up to it.

That's true but to say we were piling on the pressure stretching it a bit I thought we were poor all over the pitch for most of the game, just my honest opinion

Possibly, but hard to say how the second half would have panned out if they don't get a freak second which for all intents and purposes kills the game. I do think we were second best throughout the game and Burnley deserved the points, but a longer spell at 1-0 with post half time changes might have resulted in something different
