In what way did he outdo him? If United played for 90 minutes, like Bristol City did today, then most of this forum would be outraged. United were pathetic first half but incredibly unfortunate to lose. They utterly dominated in the second half. If you can criticise the manager first half, you must also give credit for the second half transformation.
Still lost though

The owners have already tried a few things differently and it failed.
The consensus at the time was to go back to the tried and trusted….what works.
They tried 1 thing different and their arses fell through after 5 games. They're up there with 'people to blame' this season. Probably number 1.

And that's all a lot see. No nuance, no insight and no balance. Win=brilliant, lose=shit.

Some can’t bring themselves to see the ongoing failures that started before the Selles appointments. Arguments on both sides obviously but more recent events really make one worry rather than imagine those brilliant times - which no one should ever deride - will be back.

Last checked scores at half time. Only just now didn't realise we equalised. That's my level of indifference.

Not at all. There is nuance and balance but we still lost.

Did I say shit? No I didn’t so I’d appreciate you not putting words in my mouth.

You’re happy with mediocrity, I’m not. Neither of us are more right than the other

Agreed. However, I think a lot overthink this football malarkey. If you sign good players who fit into a team structure, produce homegrown first teamers and buy and sell at optimum times then you have a chance. How you do it doesn't matter. DOF or old school Wilder type, nothing is guaranteed. Some are making it sound black and white. You could have a DOF who is an incompetent fool just as you could a manager.

Don't put words in my mouth either. I am far from happy with mediocrity. You replied with the barb "still lost." It gave no analysis or insight of the game just cynicism.

It’s not a barb it’s a fact. We still lost.

Subtitles for the hard of thinking are on ceefax page 888.

Enjoy being always right.

Now that’s a barb

Obviously. But all we generally do is try to grind out results which hasn’t worked for some time given the odd performance. The apparent lack of fitness, generally, is mystifying and hasn’t improved at all. For me, certainly after the horrendous start with Selles, it’s not the failure to make the play offs, it’s the seeming lack of ability these days to change things during games. Something that other managers seem capable of against us. I’ve seen one post describing today’s second half as “great”. It wasn’t. We got nothing from it other than Wilder patting himself on the back because he changed a ridiculous starting eleven that was decried as soon as it was posted and we didn’t concede again.

You are right its a fact we lost. Another barb questioning my intelligence! I was merely pointing out after a diabolical, wretched first half we actually dominated the game, created numerous chances, played exciting attacking football and on another day might have been rewarded.

I agree with you. I was merely talking about today's game. I thought some credit was due for the transformation in the second half. Wilder did change it and it did work, apart from scoring that is! I know that's where my argument struggles but we really did dominate and would win more often than not performing like that.

A bit of sympathy here,if the ref doesn't bottle a straight no arguments second yellow we are playing against 10 men for two thirds of the match.
All this rubbish about Brookes should have gone as well would not have happened because Pring wouldn't have been on the pitch.
3 points thrown away, if we play our first 11 we romp home against a very mediocre and lucky side.

The 79 year old...beat him thats how he outdid him.......does not matter how you win a game...you can play crap in both halves and have just one chance you score and stop the other team scoring..you outdo them...performances are for purists..its great if you can do both..not many teams can.

I’m not sure we would win more often than not. It was basically a reverse of most of our matches this season where we have played well in the first half without putting teams to bed and then turning to shit in the second half. It was just the other way around today.

We seem to have mastered the art of promising to be good. Whilst still being predictably shit. Over to you Chris..... on no wait, I've heard it all a hundred times

BTW I'm not a Wilder hater, have deep affection for the guy. Just that, I'm the horse you keep flogging, I'm tired mate.

You are a big advocate of playing well and the results will follow. Therefore, on the second half performance alone, its reasonable to assume we'd win more than we are doing at the moment. Of course its not good enough over 90 minutes but Wilder did react today and did change it for the better. You are right though, you can't be sure of anything in football.

No Bindon, no Brooks, no O’Hare, no Riedewald, perhaps he wanted to show the board (and the fans) what next season might look like if he gets no money. 🤷‍♂️

I grant you Peck was on the pitch, but he had to pick 11 men…

Do you honestly think this board/owners have enough appreciation of limey soccer to understand what's going on ?
Surely , to them , it's just a narrow away defeat.
Like many times before.
Nothing to see here , no sweat buddy.

Much better in the second half when Brooks & Hamer came on. Credit to their goalie who played a blinder but ultimately we were outsmarted by a 285 year old.

Blades away support defiant to the end today. Not a bad return journey and back home in 4 hours in time for Sara Mohr-Pietsch to guide me through the darkest hours on R3.
