Let's not read to much into this, he only played in the u21 to get some match fitness nothing more.

Yes, that must be it, he's trying to humiliate us by letting an old mate train with us. The bastard I've never been so embarrassed.
So that's supposed to inspire us it's supposed to be a serious promotion push.

Wonder if Roy McFarland , Colin Todd ,David Nish and co fancy another go with us.

Thought it was worth noting a couple of recent things on Barker and probably helped to substantiate why Clough and the Board were not aligned, leading to his departure.

Firstly, hats off to the guy. Managed to get on during the first month of Burton's campaign and has to be a terrific feeling for him in terms of the determination he must have shown - kudos to him.

Secondly, you can see how the Board were frustrated with the manager's approach. Clough wanted to sign him for the beginning of last season - a season in which he wasn't fit enough to manage a single game at first team level. We would have been saddled with another James Wallace in terms of wages vs appearances. Again, no blame on the player but not the risky recruitment the club needed at all with an inflated squad size.

Though he has got back to playing, question marks still remain on his suitability for first team Football.

Burton were without a number of central defensive options this past weekend. Mousinho has been injured. McFadzean as was reported the other day has gained a three match suspension. Turner has accrued 5 bookings already and was suspended. So Burton, who are playing 3-5-2, I.e. With three centre backs, were three down yesterday. Barker was an unused sub.

Seventh choice centre half at Burton. There's no wonder there was a fall out between the manager and Directors if this is the recruitment he was trying to sell.

Imo Clough simply lost the plot. He came in and initially did a good job but then in his first (and last) full season he started making more and more questionable decisions. The cup runs (admittedly worth a lot of money to the club so credit there) masked severe shortcomings in the league. I was glad when he moved on. Unfortunately we then picked a total clown as his replacement. Bad times.

Abaolutely pathetic by Clough. After subjecting us to a season without specialist centre halves, his answer was to make a play for a complete crock.
Totally fast and loose with the club's money, and we're stil paying the price. Good riddance.
