Ramsdale--our worst signing ever?

Hello, Stegosaurus, here.

Is Ramsdale our worst signing ever?

18 million for a goalie who cant deal woth crosses, continuously looks a bag of nerves and, worryingly, can't dive. He just flops to the ground. If a shot is remotely towards the corner, its in. Ill grant him, his reactions are good if the shot is near him. But, he's pretty useless.

18 million. That makes him, I believe, in the top 20 most expenaive goalies of all time. Bournemouth had Wilder's pants down with this one.

For me, given the cost and the fact we needed that money to strengthen in other areas has to put him as our worst ever signing.
I’ve been on this forum for nine years and this is the harshest opening post I’ve ever seen.

“Can’t dive.” Lol.

Personally think we need better than him even in the Championship. Worst signing ever is an incredibly huge stretch though.

Dont think people realise why the likes of Ramsdale and Brewster costs so much money.
They are young, experienced, regulars in the under 21 England team., both nationally rated as top talents in the country
believe or not we’ll recoup most of our money back no matter what.

We completely overspent on him, I get the feeling the board wanted Uğurcan Çakır and this was Wilder/ Ward’s choice.
I'd forgotten about this so had a quick look
Cakir conceded 14 in 9 this season
Ramsdale 18 in 11
I don't think we'd be any better off if we'd signed Cakir. I know, I know it's much more complicated but I'll wager the EPL is much stronger than the Turkish League.

Far too much criticism of him. He's not as good as Henderson, but we were never in the market for a player who could match or emulate what Henderson brings to this team.

The defence he is playing behind has been different for pretty much every game, that is the problem. Not the keeper.

Seriously? There's defending players and being silly and your comment is the latter. He's now gone 38 premier games without a clean sheet !

Don’t let statistics get in the way of a good story.
We are the worst team in the league, but he’s not the worst keeper.

Darryl Westlake, Marcus Williams, Marlon King, Jasper Johns, John Cofie, Johnny Ertl, Paddy McCarthy, Andy Taylor, Nyron Nosworthy, Mark Bunn, Dean Hammond, Conor Sammon, Jay McEveley, Martyn Woolford, Andy Butler, Michael Higdon, Chris Hussey, Jordan Stewart, James Harper

& this guy thinks its aaron ramsdale 😄
Doubt all that lot cost 18 million put together.

I never said he was.
Just out of interest though, who would you say is worse than him out of all the 1st team keepers in the prem?

Possibly shows a weakness in our scouting then, neither choice really up to scratch. Ramsdale one for the future, probably would have benefitted more personally from a year with B’mouth in the championship then another season in the premiership. Like Solanke and a few others are for them.

NO

Ramsdale is like a lot of modern day keepers great shot savers no problem in that department but dealing with crosses commanding the 6yd is a big problem
Surely this needs addressing with the goalkeeping coach

Hello Grayblade here.

Were Stegosaurus’s ancient ancestors of Pigs cus you reek of Pork? 🐷

I never said he was.

Pickford, Areola, Leno, Martinez, Fabianski off the top of my head. They are all accident prone keepers in better sides than us.

Instead, we spunked £26m on a kid who has never played PL football and let Bournemouth pull our kecks down for a second time after bumming us longwards for a treatment-table resident who has yet to do a full ninety for us.

So, let me tot that up:

1. Mousett = £10m
2. Brewster = £26m
Ramsdale = £18m

And in terms of value for money (for £54m) we have

1. Six goals. A handful of sub and subbed appearances
2. No goals. A handful of sub or subbed appearances
3. Shit your pants every time the ball heads into the 18 yard box

How much was Dean Henderson again?

pommpey

Ramsdale has pulled off some world class saves. It’s the basics that he needs to work on. Fails to catch crosses and punches / flaps instead

He's better than that pony tailed fanny in your net. All day long.

Has it dawned on anyone that maybe Rammers don’t have the confidence in what’s in front of him? His save ratio is up there with anyone’s difference between this season and last was the number of shots and chances created against us. Look at the midfield or lock off, forwards always outnumbered because the midfield is always behind the ball and when defending they get played round and defence gets done by runners not tracked or people not getting closed down
