Heard Derby could be looking sign him. He started his career with Derby before he joined Forest. Thoughts?

Hard to say. I really like the lad. Seems a top bloke and a really good professional.

We all know he has his limitations but he works hard and covers the left hand side. He's a good utility player to have in the squad as a third choicer.
He actually did have some good / effective games in the PL.

It really depends on the budget. I'm worried that as it stands our only contracted midfielder is Berge (and even he's into his final year).
If we have a few quid to spend then maybe he's reached the end of his cycle.
If, as I've heard, we have no money then I'd probably keep him on a year.

Not the best player in the world but possesses a flawless attitude. A proper utility man when needed. If players like him are leaving that would tell me we are in a better financial situation transfer wise then current rumours suggest. ⚔️

Got to say hes usually done his best , just like Fleck and Norwood , not sure about Berge in that respect , but if we are keeping any of our midfielders for the prem then we are in trouble in my opinion. The truth is that a decent defence and keeper have provided the platform ,but only one man has stepped up in the creativity dept. and he has carried the midfield and attack most games .

Useful player, left foot is important, would only need replacing. Keep - unless he's determined to leave

Too good for L1 but Derby would be a decent move

He's not a world beater. But he's also not lost his legs etc. Covers a few positions better than a teenager from the academy would. Keep unless we're suddenly very rich.

Not to mention he's a top pro and selfless player.

Had a poor season but has shown previously that he's capable of better. I'd be strongly inclined to keep him. I think he'd have plenty of suitors at Championship level before he considered dropping down to League One anyway.

He’s an obvious one to do our best to keep if we really are skint, because of his ability to cover so many positions.

If we are considering letting him go, this might not necessarily indicate we’re better off than has been suggested. He might simply have had enough, and want out.

Who knows exactly what has happened in private this season, and the impact it’s had on individual players? Hecky’s repeated cryptic references suggest all kinds of shit, potentially.

Or it was his decision to leave.. Back when Slav was in charge there were rumours he wasn't happy with the amount of game time he was getting.

Probably doesn't see his game time increasing upon promotion.

But at what cost? We'd probably get between 1m based the fact that Derby probably cant afford any more.

He's a solid player to have around especially in a PL injury crisis, can realistically cover 2x vital team spots in CM and LWB and imo played a blinder against tottenham

Saying that, if he's being offered a guaranteed first team spot at Derby, and potentially a captains armband at the club he supports (i would assume this would be a condition of dropping to L1) could we realistically stop him?

At zero cost considering contract expired and has likely agreed with the club that he wants to part ways... based on them signing him on a free means they could probably afford to up his wage to match ours too.

I would release him myself given that he's not good enough as back up in midfield meaning that his best position is LWB and we have Lowe and RND there and possibly someone else coming there too. He's had his fair share of injuries too. Top attitude and he'd done well at times but we need better in my view.

Nowhere near good enough for the Champ never mind the Prem. Can play several positions - all of them poorly. Yes, a trier with a good attitude but he would be miles out of his depth next season.

Go let him be a headless chicken in L1 - that's probably about his level (at best).

Kid I work with is big mates with Ozzy he went on his stag do.. tight-lipped regards the incident he never kicked a ball after. I'm not fishing but maybe allowing a player to go have his stag do during the season would need alot of trust maybe this was abused by Ozzy??

Personally I like him reminds me of Monty great work ethic team player but limited

I may be missing a very obvious point here but how would Utd realise £1m when the player is out of contract and a free agent?

I'm sure he'd stay if the clubs made an offer but even though he appeared to be PH's favourite (that's the only possible reason he wasn't hooked for some of his performances), I'd question his judgement if an extension was put on the table. Going to Derby for £8k/week is probably the best offer he'll get - he'll no doubt then move to Burton and then onto Mansfield.

Think a few people are being very harsh on Ozzy.

He is a much better player, playing further up the pitch as a left side attacking midfielder or left winger.

After finally getting his way and getting game time under Slav, he was deployed as a left winger and was arguably one of the best players during Slavs short stint.

Its not his fault due to our system we have to play him as a LWB which is totally not suited for a player of his size.

Maybe some of u should watch his forest highlights and see just how high he used to play up the pitch where he is most effective running at teams without the defensive responsibility.

He supports Derby

No brainer for him

Not sure how Derby will take to him, after he played for Forest.

As a backup player he was one of the few who did his job reasonably well last time in the Prem. I dont see we would even need to use him as much this time, with current squad and he we know he will remain a good pro and won't eat a big chunk of wages while waiting his turn. Having said that he is sitting 24-25 on my imaginary squad list for August.

This probably sounds harsh, but for a club that is keeping an eye on the pennies, I’m not convinced that 3.5m was a necessary outlay for a utility player. We could have arguable got this type for a free than spend so much to get a player who is relatively average.

Again not meaning to sound harsh but he’s been no more a starter when we’ve dropped down a level than when he was signed the level above.

He has his moments and his good games but he’s a pro footballer, he’s supposed to. He’s just not outstanding at anything for us really and call me old school but unless they are exceptional at something I’m not a fan of signing little players. You already have something to compensate for physically before you even get to what they may bring.

If Osborn was a free and with his injuries of late, would you be jumping into this deal?

You’ve got 25 players or more and you can name 9 on the bench, you don’t need a Swiss Army knife equivalent on the bench. Better you have individuals who are actually specialised and good in their position.

He had a chance to cement a spot in the run in, but he made a poor personal choice in the international break and it could well have cost him a continued role with us. Daft for someone who was supposed to be one of the thinkers in the squad!

He's from Derby, I think he still has family there and he's just opened a pub there. It would seem as though he may well be headed back there by choice.

yes good utility player and served us well but i would release him dont see any future at the lane for him either as 3rd choice in the premier league or 2nd choice in the championship if we get relegated

A lot of ifs and buts, however can you imagine Wednesday stay down?

Hold that thought.

They convince themselves they'll piss the league next season.

Then they see Didzy, Ozzy, Hourihane all at Derby ready for full season with a settled team. They glance further and they see Reading, managed by Chris Wilder.

They'd be plenty of mirth to be had there!

I'd imagine on the face of it with some of the bad feeling with their fans that billy would not end up at Derby if he did move. But if they could all get over that obstacle having him and Didzy roll back the years with Hourihane and Ozzy would be a solid move on their part.

Keep. Hopefully he doesn't play a minute, but he's there in a pinch, will normally deliver a solid 6/10 performance.
An ageing 6/10 who’s taking the place of a young player we could invest in. A young investment type player has a big potential upside, the potential downside of not ‘replacing’ Osborn to the same level is hardly going to leave a gaping void.

I think Osborn had more potential than people gave him credit for, but he just hasn’t developed enough over the last two years.

Look at the bigger picture and aim for something better
