McCabe pop at Adkins

Hammond's contributions to the team has been a huge dissappointment, thought it a good signing at the time but proved a has been. Credit to Adkins in moving HIGDON out on loan and later to Carlisle where he's released again. That particular signing by Clough is pretty much the worst ever. The scouting must have been dreadfull.
Some how compared Higdon to Chris Guthrie, but thats unfair, Guthrie for all his skill and speed scored 15 goals in 60 games , Higdon 2 in 15.

Worse than Guthrie, fuck me.

I've been a if critic of McCabe be the fact is at this level you have to sell to survive. Our biggest problem has been the past it sh1te we've wasted money on.

Best examples were bringing Hammond in instead of Morsy and Edgar instead of Mawson. But over the years there's been a whole other raft of signings like Sammon, Coutts, Collins, etc etc rather than young up and coming players with some potential resale value if we do get rid.

I'd love to see Wilder sign the likes of Pierre, Roofe, Odowda, Bradshaw although we're probably too late for most of them. If he goes after this type of player I'm sure he'll have most of our supporters on side and if it takes a while to gel he will be given more time as we'll see it as a building project rather than a retirement home !

I dunno, you can either wallow in misery over being stuck with McCabe, or you can get carried along on the tide of optimism generated by a manager on the up, one who's just smashed the Fourth Division, knows the club through & through, & who gets his teams playing fully committed, attacking football.

McCabe's here to stay. Why stress about it now, of all times?

He was right to get rid of a manager who just didn't fit here. And he was right in decisively appointing Chris Wilder. Whatever other mistakes he has made or will make.

Previous manager- 3 league 1 promotions.

New manager- Never managed in League 1.

Some how translates to “finally we have a league 1 manager”

Well proof is in the pudding and he certainly missed a trick last season . Yes we have a league 1 manager , now managing a established league 1 club . At least the new fella should know the league 1 and 2 players.

Adkins whatever spin , nice words , previous promotions , you put on it - he has failed and would we have got better . Like McCabe , if it was my money , Adkins would have got his P45.

Who knows about Wilder , and I don't go for this ex blade shit . He has to perform and cannot be as bad as the previous two managers . Football is entertainment , I think .

This is it. Time to look forward.

I am almost certain KM will repeat the same statement not to far down the line "we have learnt from our mistakes" the last number of years confirms they haven't so this new statement is almost laughable. I am certainly waiting for the retained list this will be the first indicator we have learnt anything or probably not.

So the reason we haven't gone up, apart from bad luck, is that we've spent too much money. All that money has prevented us from giving our youth players a chance.
We haven't had a player break through since 2011. That's because we've spent too much, not because they're not good enough.
Had we spent a lot less and relied on MacFadz, Diego, Dimaio, Ironside and Whitehouse we'd have done much better apparently.

There is a slightly ominous backdrop in that interview regarding restrictions on funding (& the deadweight of the Technical Committee). But this thing about young players "not being good enough" is very subjective.

Managers have to be brave enough to pick young players, stick with them & nurture them. It's a managerial cop-out just waiting for exceptional talents like the Kyles to come along.

Plenty of other sides at this level do it, including Millwall who've brought through O'Brien, Thompson & Onyedinma this season (as well as others picked up from other academies like Mahlon Romeo). Like Millwall have done, you surround your youngsters with the right players & commit to them as first team squad players.

Personally, I think McCabe is right to be impatient about the fruit of this exceptional academy not being used more.

I think we certainly would have got better if we had released a load of players not in the first team and replaced them with some who might be good enough.

I just don't understand what criteria you're judging a "league 1 manager" by.

Several promotions from league 1 followed by 1 failed season at this level (with a LOT of mitigating circumstances) = not a league 1 manager yet

Never managed above League 2 = a league 1 manager.

Not having a go at Wilder, just thought it was an extremely odd assertion.

Barnsley are a good example of working with youngsters and eventually seeing success - but would we have stuck with it through the same terrible run they had at the beginning of the season?

Two from L1 one from the Champuonship isn't it?

Just read he reads this to combat stress. Last verse could be quite apt!

The Guy in the Glass

by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,

And the world makes you King for a day,

Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,

And see what that guy has to say.

For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,

Who judgement upon you must pass.

The feller whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the guy staring back from the glass.

He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,

For he's with you clear up to the end,

And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test

If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,

And think you're a wonderful guy,

But the man in the glass says you're only a bum

If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,

And get pats on the back as you pass,

But your final reward will be heartaches and tears

If you've cheated the guy in the glass.

It's not exceptional. It's Cat 2. I can't comment on Millwall as I know nothing about them or the players you refer to. But I do know Wilson, Clough and Adkins all had good reputations for bringing youth players through so if I were KM, I wouldn't be jumping up and down because our youth teams have done well in some Mickey Mouse non contact league for kids, I'd be asking why they're not turning into professional footballers. Not knocking managers for not picking players who aren't good enough.

Think Barnsley were/are a bit unusual in that they seemed to have a first team made up almost entirely of young players. (When they played us, I think I'm right in saying that Hammill was significantly their oldest player, at 28 or so - & he only arrived later in the season.)

An encouraging thing about that interview with McCabe is that, despite the Hammond fiasco this season, he's not averse to the manager signing (very) experienced players from the level above per se. He remembers the contribution of Stuart McCall fondly & acknowledges the importance of more experienced mentors for younger players, so long as they're still able to perform at high levels.

We need a mix, but this does need to include our own academy players, as McCabe stresses.

3 from league 1.

2 with Scunny. 1 with Saints.

Fuck me TD , sometimes tha makes an awful lot of sense , only sometimes mind . :)

So what you want SUFC to do is give players what they want and not bother with a salary cap.

If a player is too good for league 1 you want us to keep them to their contract and risk lowering their morale and getting nothing for them?

It's not Football Manager, it's real life and your style appears to be "shit or bust".

What if we paid McDonald, Maguire and Murphy £20K each and we failed to get promotion?

Do we put admission prices up to £35 a match or how about going into admin and getting a points deduction?

The harsh reality is we can easily dominate the league 1 team when it comes to finances but as soon as a Championship teams gets involved we struggle to compete unless we want to risk going bust.

Regards McDonald we tried to be creative because he wouldn't sign the deal to make him out highest paid player. There was a clause allowing him to be sold for £30K, so he to Wolves on the cheap so they could then afford to pay him massive wages. We never stood a chance. Same with Maguire going to PL Hull.

Key words, "due diligence"

I'm going to hazard a guess; does the line go down?
You must be psychic!
Not sure what it proves (apart from we're not very good at choosing managers). Nine managers gone in nine years and a steady decline. I've not included Carver or Morgan (twice) as the sample size is too small. Memo to Wilder. Ring in sick between the 10th and 16th of the month.

Unfortunately, you may not have read some of my previous posts about selling players ,
I wished Harry all the best , and thanked him for the effort he put in with us .
I would never stand in any players way , if after putting in a shift , running their bollox off , and generally giving a fuck about our club he felt the need to move on Quinn was another example .
It's replacing like for like .
We would never have signed Coady as , and he's right from a professional point of view
we could have given him the stage ( championship level ) at which to play .
While I liked McDonald , he was to hit and miss for me , never really grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck .
When we sold Blackman , I put forward a suitable replacement, a guy we could have got from Luton , still in the conference at that stage , but going to be playing premier league next year , the lad Gray at Burnley.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Also no the club shouldn't be held to ransom over wages , the want to play or can fuck of like set for life Slew .

By the way and going against the grain, mr McCabe kept our well paid stars after our relegation, trying to get back at the first attempt, I'll give him some credit for that , it was only after the heart and soul had been torn from our team did we fail to get promoted. People have different views on that as well .
Hence getting rid of everything in Wilsons second season , where he performed a miracle even keeping us within touching distance of promotion.

We shouldn't have sold some of the players we did and failed to invest the money in decent replacements over the course of 9 years.
Sometimes owners should admit their mistakes instead of deflecting them.
Spot on Tyler - And didn't he have a pop at the previous manager about the players he'd signed once he'd left?

Come on. The owner appoints the manager and mutually agrees a strategy, provides the budget and then gives the manager full control over the running of the football side of the club. After failures there has been a supposed 'technical committee' to ensure prospective signings fit the strategy but if the owner were to start muscling in on there even would be out of order.

Managers have to manage. Owners state strategy and provide the budgets.

If every manager he's appointed has "mutually agreed" to the strategy that was followed, then each and everyone of them deserves to be out of work for the rest of their lives because I don't believe I've ever seen any business lurch from one direction to another as much as this one so I don't believe there has ever been a real strategy 0 you know, a 3-5 year strategy supported by annual plans on how it will be delivered.
