So as suspected Hammond, amongst others, cost Adkins his job. The fact Adkins was going to sign his mate on a permanent contract despite it being obvious to everyone else his legs have gone must have filled Kev with as much dread as it did us !

Let's be reyt, of Adkins signings, it was only Hammond that 'didn't have the legs'...you can't argue that Woolfird didn't have legs...on backwards..perhaps, but they was definitely legs....Edgar got ok legs and Sammon, well generally regarded as not Adkins signing, despite having non-stop legs.

Billy got big chunky goal scoring legs and Baps got slick defensive legs...

So translate 'some' as 'Hammond' in McCabe-speak...

Adkins used Hammond as his comfort blanket . For a man with forward thinking and motivational character , it just didn't work out . Adkins ideas are fine when dealing with millionaire players , from all around the world as in the premiership , but does not work with so called bread and butter league 1 players .

Perhaps Southampton saw this and decided Adkins had taken as far as he could , and the Adkins philosophy is just out dated and he has stagnated and not moved with the times.

Also is attitude may well need to change , who knows , but his stock as a manager as dropped , because of himself not the blades.

Finally we have a league 1 manager for a established league 1 club.

He trusted Adkins when he brought Hammond in, which he had to do.

If he started interfering in team selection he'd be slagged off for that.

When at Wimbledon Bassett was a fully paid up member of the Hoofwafa.
We did play some decent football under Bassett whist still an element of hoof.
Chris Wilder however likes to play an up tempo passing game that's what we can look forward too.
Adkins I'm afraid was clueless to the end.

The problem is that we allow every new manager to come in and bring their own players in, for stupid money and never live up to the praise given by the manager bringing them in. Then the new manager will move them on because their not his player. I hope wilder breaks this cycle and by the signs of him revisiting the released list, he just might.

Since he took over last week I have been looking at the 2nd division and there appears to be a lot of players who are up and coming who are available free or cheap. Hopefully the transfer committee will already be all over some of them and we then have the perfect boss to say yes or no as he's seen them first hand. As well as that, these players will know the boss and mostly be impressed.

For me it really does have a Bassett feel about this appointment in terms of picking up some gems (not the style) but I don't want to get too excited until I start seeing some transfers and young hungry players coming in.

We can blame McCabe all we want but in life sometimes you need to draw a line through the mistakes and move on. I really think this will be a successful transformation.

No problem with voicing his opinions but perhaps he could say "Hey I got rid of Clough cause he spent too much but then trusted Adkins on spending and that was wrong. I've dropped some reight bollocks over the past few years".

Hindsight is a strange thing, both Clough and Adkins were managers I'd have picked based on their CV's, both were exciting 'have we finally cracked it' type appointments.

Clough - I've have given him another season
Adkins - should have gone in August

Wilder, not sure I'd have picked him but once he's on board and you start to dig deeper seems a reasonable signing.

Time will be the only judge, all we can do is hope and pray that this is the 'we have finally cracked it' type appointment.

Hammond's contributions to the team has been a huge dissappointment, thought it a good signing at the time but proved a has been. Credit to Adkins in moving HIGDON out on loan and later to Carlisle where he's released again. That particular signing by Clough is pretty much the worst ever. The scouting must have been dreadfull.
Some how compared Higdon to Chris Guthrie, but thats unfair, Guthrie for all his skill and speed scored 15 goals in 60 games , Higdon 2 in 15.

After failures there has been a supposed 'technical committee' to ensure prospective signings fit the strategy but if the owner were to start muscling in on there even would be out of order.

Sales of players who want to leave is a different issue.

The players McCabe is referring to will never be sold and we'll settle their contracts in all likelihood. Wilder will not field a midfield like we did for weeks: Hammond, Coutts, Woolford and Basham. As a group of four only one can run properly and can play a full 90 minutes flat out. That's the point your Chairman is making. He is effectively saying he would not fund the signing of Hammond as part of Adkins way forward.
