Louis Reed

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what are you basing that on?

I think he's a bit more quick thinking and can pick a forward pass out better. Reed looked good to start with and seems to be progressing at last now from his initial promise. I don't think the two years he spent in the wilderness did him any good and held him back. I've always said that Lundstram is one dimensional and is a pointless addition to the squad especially when he's coming off the bench, he's never going to impact on anything. He's maybe got a role to play if we set up more defensively but that's only if Wilder sets up the team to play a more conservative fashion.

I don't think youre giving Lundstram enough credit: Granted, he's taken a while to adapt, but I feel he's shown promise on multiple occasions and was one of the better performers in December.

I also think you might be overstating Reed's ability - he's playing in L2 (unlike Lundstram who's obviously in the CH) and in his first "full" season. Based on that, I don't think it's helpful to compare the two.

There's not many on here who do give Lundstram enough credit. Those saying he can't pick a forward pass out or isn't quick thinking should take another look at Donaldson's first goal when we drew 2-2 with Villa.

We've got to have someone to hate though

Reed and Lundstram are completely different players with different builds so could both be useful in the future. Lunny scores the odd goal too which goes a long way when you play the type of role he does.

Evans can pick a pass on a more consistent basis but can’t break the play up nowhere near as effective as Lunny so he certainly has a role to play as it stands. What we could do with is an Evans and Lundstram blended into one but that might cost a bit, Reed doesn’t fit any description of what Wilder likes at present so he’s going to have to work even harder to prove himself, I hope he does because I think he’s talented enough to make a good Championship player in years to come.

Absolutely quality player right from the start, rarely wastes a ball. Also has a very powerful shot - if mostly an awry one!

Yeah, hate him with a passion if you say so. It's very childish to assert this just because I'm of the opinion Reed has better potential than Lundstram. Why is it when you can think of nothing further to add to the discussion you have to throw this kind of crap in as your last word?

But..but he "only says what everyone is finking innit"

He's a Twat of the first order. On my growing list of people who fit this criteria, he's a country mile ahead, but the dark horse (an apt phrase given her face) is Katie Hopkins.

Easy tiger, I never said you hated him: the post wasnt specifically about you, more a general complaint that no matter how well the side are performing, we always need a scapegoat, and it seems Lundstram has filled that gap.

It wasn't my last word, im happy to discuss both players, I just don't think there's much point directly comparing them

All opinions on Reed are understandable. The departure of Clough set the lad back a couple of years. If Clough had stayed we would have a seasoned pro with 150 first team gamrmes under his belt for us.

One wasted year under Adkins (like us all) and then the appointment of Wilder with altogether more urgent priorities than playing young lads., led to the loan at Chessy which has been successful thank goodness. That the small cultured footballer can succeed in a L2 relegation scrap speaks volumes.

He has one year left on his contract with us. Now he's better than that and we should negotiate 3 years minimum as a further investment. Having said that, if he stays with us next season I see him as Coutts' understudy and that doesn't serve him well as he needs games.

Another season on loan in L1 and the lad can return to us with 120 games under his belt and can be a big player for us for years to come - at any level, seriously.

Sorry I posted the above on Loan Updates thtead, thought I was on this one.

Very good read!;)

Well I’ll beg to differ then.

He wasn’t good enough for League 1. Fact. That’s why he’s not here. Look no further than Wilders judgement.

He’s good (apparently) at league 2 level.

You guys scare me to death tbh! Do you realise what League we are in and where we are trying to get to? Did you see our present midfield v Fulham the other week? Every single one of those United players is streets ahead of Reed, but we were mullered in midfield. Absolutely taught a lesson in how to play football.

But you think Reed will be good enough for us eh?

Jayzus H Christ! What division?

I'm glad you're writing off a 20 yea-old who is getting better with playing games. He may or may not be good enough for the Championship, I just think he shouldn't just be written off because he got thrown in at 17.

Proper footballer who when playing with players who are of the same ability as he is will look even better, yesterday he was involved in everything good Chesterfield did and looked comfortable and assured every time he had the ball

Tom Cairney was shit for Hull at Reeds age and was released initially by Leeds for being to small. He is arguably the best player outside the premier league now. Reed has years in front of him to keep improving ,not saying he will ,but you never know with another couple of loans.

I was impressed by Reed when he first came into the team, but he lost his way big style since. I don’t think being the best player in the 91st club in the football league changes that. He’s got good technical ability but we’ve gone way past where he is at.

I’d never heard of Cairney until this season, but he was amazing the other eeek for Fulham. As was Kevin McDonald.

We can’t build a team though on maybe’s. We have to find players who are capable of doing it now. Time is short.

Not saying he should be written off, just saying he’s not done enough to convince he’s the way forward for where we are now.

If you were manager, would you stake your job on him doing it for us in the Championship? Because that’s what it comes down to.

This isn't viable financially; we can't afford the finished article (Cairney is being touted at £20m).
We have to speculate and gamble: nurture and develop young players, such as Reid.

Agreed we need to pick up the O’Connells, Flecks who have the ability to develop to top players at this level / who have but aren’t in the first team picture.

Agree with your post but I’m not sure if you’ll ever come back from this mate. Every ‘Reed’ on the forum will have reported you already. :D

I’m still perplexed at the stick he seems to get from a few bad games as an 18 year old, in the worst side in recent history.

Even then, the only real poor performance I recall was away at Burton when we came on as a sub. Every single player in our current side has had similar games in their careers.

He’s 20 years old, doing well, so let’s just see what happens.

Absolutely, or even better: our own academy products.

Do you think I'll be able to convince anyone it was a typo as opposed to me being a thick cunt?

Not quiet sure on ear! :)

Now where’s a judge when you need one? :)
