Good player is Reed. In best 3 Chessy players on the day. Oozed class and composure.

"Oozed class"? In the team bottom of the football league?

It's a shit cringey cliche anyway, but at least apply it appropriately... Jesus o_O

Yeah, Reed played well but the lad Kellett on loan from Wigan looks a quality little player, didn’t realise he was 24, Hines also caused lots of problems for the very lacklustre Notts County.

All opinions on Reed are understandable. The departure of Clough set the lad back a couple of years. If Clough had stayed we would have a seasoned pro with 150 first team gamrmes under his belt for us.

One wasted year under Adkins (like us all) and then the appointment of Wilder with altogether more urgent priorities than playing young lads., led to the loan at Chessy which has been successful thank goodness. That the small cultured footballer can succeed in a L2 relegation scrap speaks volumes.

He has one year left on his contract with us. Now he's better than that and we should negotiate 3 years minimum as a further investment. Having said that, if he stays with us next season I see him as Coutts' understudy and that doesn't serve him well as he needs games.

Another season on loan in L1 and the lad can return to us with 120 games under his belt and can be a big player for us for years to come - at any level, seriously.

Sorry don't share your optimism about his future. There's a reason why he was only given a 12 month extension to his contract and that was to make sure we are able to get a fee at the end of the season. He's improved after a poor start at Chezzy and good luck to him but I expect him to move on like Whiteman with a reasonable sell on clause. He doesn't fit the profile of top end championship player that we need if we are to progress to the next level IMO.

He's only 20 years old and yet he has had 73 first team games.

Are you in favour of signing Blackman wirh 27 first team games?

This lad will "fit the profile" you mention before he's 23 years old, believe me.

You’ve missed out the multiple question marks after ‘seriously’.

Your weird obsession with this tiny, mediocre, lower league footballer has irrevocably clouded your judgement, I’m afraid. Seriously. Very seriously.

And yours Pinchy?

Almost certainly the reality sits somewhere in between both our opininons!

Time will tell. I'm sure as a Blade you wish the lad well.

Plenty of encouragement for tbe lad on the forum these days.

I wish my club, Sheffield United, well. That wish is best served by quality players in the red and white. Whether Louis Reed or any other ‘local lads’ succeed is close to the foot of my list of priorities. I don’t add an unrealistic premium to a player’s ability because of the biological accident of his place of birth.

I’ve seen the Bladey Boybander favourites come and go. I’ve counted them all in and counted them all out. Mustavimbackinjanuary Whiteman is, despite the S2 hyperbole, gradually descending to his true level. Reed will be no different. Be careful what you wish for.

The number of games played in lower leagues and a players age does not determine ability to play at top end championship level. Look at Sessignon aged 17.

Brooks has had 23 appearances mostly in the championship is the same age and on a completely different level to Reed in terms of skill, ability, pace and goal threat. In three years time he'll be plying his trade in the premiership. Whiteman 1 year older has played 64 games all in league 1. Thats his level at the moment and its questionable in 2 more years whether he has the ability to move up to the championship.

Reed has over 70 appearances split between league 1 and 2, no appearances in the championship. How can the club justify a new 3 year contract in the championship based on that? It doesn't make sense. I wish him well but he doesn't fit the profile and all indications are he will be moved on.

Blackman, a goalkeeper with a premiership club, like Brooks has tremendous potential for his age. We won't be able to afford him but a 1 year extension to his loan would be very welcome.

Whiteman in fact played some games in league 2 for Mansfield so he's an even better comparator with Reed.

It'd be a welcome bonus if a player already under contract could become a regular squad member. Would save some cash. No idea where he fits in though and I'm yet to see evidence that he'll replace any squad member we currently have

Best for all would be a £100-250k sale and he gets to start his career properly somewhere

Funny you bring Blackman into this argument actually, a young professional at 24 years old with just 42 appearances, all in league two before joining us. Would you have written him off as well because he hasn't got Championship experience, and is 4 years older than Reed don't forget.

Players develop at different ages, you cannot possibly say that Reed won't be a Championship player in 3/4 years! I personally think he will but no one knows. All people are saying is that it's worth keeping him another 2/3 years to see how he develops. Worse case scenario is he isn't good enough so we offload him after spending minimal wages, most of which will have been covered by other clubs. Best case scenario is he turns into a replacement for Paul Coutts and could easily become a player good enough for the first team.

I compare Reed to Leon Britton not only in size but ability and I can see him going to play at a similar level if he finds a team that wants to use his attributes of ability to retain possession, always available and looking for that killer pass.

He is not built to rise like a salmon at the far post and knock one in etc. So don’t expect him to.

I think I said he would fit the profile by the time he's 23. If that is so it can save us a fortune.

I didn't bring Blackman into the argument I was answering a question Woodwardfan asked me. Blackman is an exceptional prospect at a premiership club potentially on a par with Brooks. Chelsea think so they rewarded him with a lucrative four year contract. Brooks got an improved contract over four years from the Blades. CW gave Reed a 1 year extension to his current deal. That tells you where he is currently valued by the Club.

Coutts type with the ability to play searching long passes as well.

Can't remember Britton playing too many killer passes actually ( or Coutts).

I live near to Swindon and my cousin who is a Swindon fan tells me that Hussey had been playing really well but at present he is out injured
Noticed Hussey is in the Swindon starting 11 today and checking back he played on Friday as well so back in the fray.
