The wilder conundrum

Wilder as DoF has absolutely zero merit whatsoever.

He'd be appalling in that role.
Every player he's signed for a fee, Ramsdale is the only exception I can think of, left for a loss or for free. I can't think of many players, if not any, who have improved during his second or third tenures. Even Cooper went from arguably the best or second best keeper in the division to an inferior version of himself last season, as did Burrows.

He would be the last person you'd want in charge of scouting and recruitment, especially after his midweek comments regarding transfers, the dross he's signed and money he's wasted, nor would I want him handling contracts.

I don’t believe it’s because we think we are a championship powerhouse at all
That’s bloody nonsense
We do think the football could better it’s not occasionally bad it’s been bad for the third season in a row sams tactics same plan just worse players playing the same plan
We still have a top ten budget let’s not forget that
Yet you look round this division who else has our “homely” approach
Who else for three season watch’s their team blowing out of their arse after 70 minutes, week in week out
Look at the latest stats over the whole thing we are bottom of the pile
For a top ten club budget wise that makes you ask why are we the worst statically performing team in the division
There is no plan ffs who runs a multi million pounds football business with no plan
No it’s not entitlement but it is caring a deep connection to the club
Correct!
It's a total embarrassment but apparently more than acceptable to a significant percentage of our support as he had a great spell years ago, around the same time that Kalvin Phillips did.

He used to claim to have reconnected the club, but is doing the exact opposite now due to his waning ability, increased use of clichés in his poor repetitive pressers and criticising his own fans who have the audacity to call him out.

There is nothing of quality being evidenced now.

Fair enough that’s true but selling O’Hare, Brooks and Hamer without adequately replacing them with an ounce of creativity has contributed to this utter turgid style we are currently watching. Wilder definitely contributed to Brooks leaving though so I won’t cut him too much slack.
Selling Hamer, Brooks and O’Hare is eminently sensible if we’re going to play like a mid-80s Division 3 side and smash the ball as high and hard as possible. We’re embarrassing in possession let’s be honest. O’Hare in particular would have had to have a mandatory step-ladder written into his contract

We know that, we accept that and the new one, jumping through hoops are my favourites.

Chris Wilder as Director of Football: scouting checklist:

✅ Are they from Barnsley?
✅ Have they ever played for Leeds?
✅ Have they ever played for Leicester?
✅ Have they previously played for Sheffield United?
✅ Are they someone Wilder tried to sign six years ago?
✅ Are they over 30?
✅ Are they described as “experienced at this level”?
✅ Can they play centre-back?
✅ Can they also supposedly play wing-back despite having no pace whatsoever?
✅ Have they got “good character”?
✅ Do they “know the division”?
✅ Have they been promoted from the Championship at some point since 2014?
✅ Are they available because another club has decided they’re past their best?
✅ Can we sign them without needing an overseas scouting department?

❌ Are they a quick winger?
❌ Are they an attacking midfielder who can actually carry the ball?
❌ Are they 20–23 with massive resale potential?
❌ Have they been found through some clever European/South American scouting network?
❌ Do they offer something tactically different from the other eight players we already have in that position?

Final scouting meeting:
“Right lads, we’ve got 11 centre-halves, four defensive midfielders, no width, no pace and nobody between the lines.”

“Excellent. Has anyone checked if there’s another ex-Leeds defender available?”
