I've criticised him plenty of times but so far he's done pretty much all that's been asked of him, we can't grumble about two consecutive clean sheets.

Some players respond to criticism and some toss it off - he's responded so far but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Regardless of the Souttar situation, this squad is a first team CB short.

A lot of pig-headed crap on this thread. Get an idea in your head about a player then die on that hill, ignoring what actually happened. He played like what actually thought we might get; a no nonsense kicking and heading defender. If he never lapsed in concentration or was faster he would be playing in the Prem. Looking to criticise the defence after a clean sheet is an odd way to go. He is better than Robinson ever was on that showing.

Whatever people’s opinions on him as a player, he deserves huge credit for the way he’s reacted to CW’s public comments about him. He’s just got on with it and he’s played pretty well.
It goes a long way in my eyes. For what we paid for him I don't think we can afford to keep him for the level of performance we've had from him, but we could do worse if we sell him.

He looks a lower end Championship defender. Like any player capable of stepping up a level for a season, which is probably what has earned him his previous transfers, but when he has a poor game, lacking pace and limited on the ball, he looks a whole lot worse. He seems to have a good attitude and the 2nd half of last season was decent, arguably better than Tanganga. He would feel a good squad player for where we want to be now, but if he still holds value in the transfer market, then it definately feels we could use the cash better elsewhere. Does not seem a signing that was properly vetted, but does not deserve the pelters he gets in some quarters. So many players have turned it around on the pitch for us over the years.

Thought he won loads in the air, helped defend their gerritintbox tactics and they only got into the space behind him once.

He deserves credit, but defending is a team game, and we were so so much more compact than last season. That’s a massive help to any defender.

How he keeps producing a good performance under the public admittance of his boss that he isn't in his plans is highly admirable imo and quite the opposite of Souttar who some say is playing crap because he wants to leave, he's doing a job for us much more than many of the others are doing, leave him alone.

We have to be honest about Mcg. Yesterday was an ideal match for him. Bruno just hoofed the ball up to Prisk at every opportunity and he stood up to it every time. The problem is that when he is up against a fast or tricky player he will struggle.
So in conclusion, McG is not rubbish or shite, he just has his limitations and we either accept that or let him leave

Agreed re fast players but thats why Tanganga is in there. Souttar struggles with fast players too as do most big CBs. On yesterday's performance CB is the least of our worries. We definitely need more there but do we need to spend 10m on an injury prone, late 20s player who will miss a month of the season?

But that is what he is, a no nonsense defender. The minute he starts trying to play more progressive passes is when he messes up and costs us a goal.

He’s been good, actually very good, in the first two games and two clean sheets is all we could ask for from him.

Especially considering the manager has publicly declared him surplus to requirements.

The same could be said for Souttar. Quick striker is going to make him look like he’s a turning circle of HMS Invincible too!

No problem with him as back up in our current situation but we need a better first choice
Agreed fans saying he is low end championship player. Guess what kids he is right at home because we are gash and unless we have a very good end to the tranfer window thats where we will be. Sold 2 of our most creative players and not replaced either. Jurys out on Donovan i cant stop thinking about him passing the ball out of play vs Mansfield. We are in trouble with this current team.

People criticise him but to be told your not part of the team and we want shut i thought he showed real class to put a solid if not spectacular performance in, think we need to spend our money in other areas before bining him off
I totally agree, what little money we have needs to be prioritised on other areas, after yesterday's showing. I also think he showed real class...although too many balls in to dangerous areas for my liking. Better teams will punish is far more. That's on the wingbacks and centre halves.

Soutter will win every header, every cross, every physical battle, most corners set pieces etc and, alongside a good CB partner who can sweep up anything that requires a turn of pace.

He has the experience and nous in order to read the game and know when to clear danger and when to not commit.

He was outstanding for us in that run of clean sheets and fewest goals conceded.

Likewise in his World Cup performances (penalty miss aside) he was immense.

The type of player that you build a side around.

I can't even think about AA becaus that would be a dream partnership imo that would get us top 4 if we can get a couple of attacking additions.
