I've said before, Leon Clarke will be remembered very warmly for his time here, despite being a sometimes unpopular journeyman elsewhere. And I'm glad because I always thought he was a decent player elsewhere. He was much maligned at Wednesday (understandable, given the hilarious antics versus Palace) but he wasn't the joke they said he was.
His highlight reel for us over his first two seasons matches anyone:
Superb goal and performance against Chesterfield (a turning point that season, I thought)
Scoring the promotion winning goal (Fleck's goal obviously sticks in the memory more, but a draw would have been enough)
That exocet missile on the volley in an away match shortly after promotion - can anyone remember which game?
His jump and heel-click after Fleck scored the free kick in the derby
Tearing the arse out of Wednesday himself shortly thereafter
Doing the same to a great Wolves side days later
Four goals in a half against Hull - never seen anyone else manage that for us
Hat Trick in vain at home to Fulham
That superb first time cross for Sharp at home to Wigan. Well, *I* thought it was good...
And of course his performance *for* Wigan, and his unbridled joy when they equalised against Leeds.
