Outgoing? Leon Clarke

Thats the idea. We should quote silly money to ward off bids. Where are we going to get a 13 goal plus striker to replace him for £2.25 million. Would be insane to let him go for that price.

The current 13-goal top scorer cost £150k :)

Great way to destabilise a club who are one of your main challengers for promotion
Danlge a few extra quid ,make his club say he's not going (or agree to sell )and you've more than likely put a huge spanner in the works with the player either at your club now or sulking

I can see Villa been interested because of the injury to Kodija. However, I can't see us selling him, or Leon wanting to leave, even though it is nearer to his home. I can only see us selling him if Wilder thought the deal was good business and I very much doubt we would get a fee that would be big enough, because no matter how high it is, we won't get someone in as good a form as Leon who is as good as Leon. Leon is much underrated and is now producing the form he has shown only in patches at this level. He has everything you'd want from a forward and I'd hate it if we sold him.

I do think though that we will sign another forward this January, probably one with pace, as Wilder stated we lacked when we missed out on Sinclair.

Just looked on Leon's Wikipedia profile, and I'm delighted to see his former Wednesday pic has now been replaced with him showing 4 fingers for the goals v Hull! Classic, and about time we had another photo of Leon on Wikipedia!

I can see McCabe’s eyes popping out of his sockets, with ££ signs on them, as he reads this thread :(;)

By the end of Dec if results dont go for us we will be on the fringe of the play offs, the owners might prefer to cash in.

I was (clumsily) trying to draw a sarcastic comparison to our selling of Deane & Fjortoft in January 1998.

Having to explain a post really shows how crap that post is.

Seems to be picking momentum up this does.

I doubt he'll want to go, though he is from Birmingham....

What is funny, on Villa forums they want them to sign him to weaken us.

It’s like posters on this forum are constantly stuck in some sort of time warp in 2007 with the player valuations they come out with. £2m for the championship top scorer o_O

Whether or not he’s 32 he’s worth more than that. As stated above, See Daryl Murphy. That was a year ago already. Since then a footballer has switched clubs for €200m double any transfer ever made before and another for around €150m.

I hope he doesn’t leave, but if he does I will guarantee it’ll not be for less than £4m

Just looks like The Star style click bait to me. He would be absolutely insane or just wanting one last pay day to join Villa.

How many players fall out with Villa.... We have mentioned just a few over the last few days.

McCormick, Hutton, Lansbury, Abanglahor (or however you spell it). The list could go on if I could be arsed to look into it further.

Give the lad an extra couple of grand performance related.

This ^^^
Fucking amateur hour journalism with gems like 'entering the final 18 months of his contract'. Half the players in the league are in their final 18 months of a contract.
Clickbait sheeiiiiiiite.

If they doubled his wages he would go , at his age... I wouldn’t like it ,but , if they offered stupid over inflated money then chris would know what to do ..

And he's 32. How many 32 year old's have more than 18 months left on their contracts at this level? I agree, clickbait shite.

Anyone who believes that this will happen has slipped into the realms of Bonky madness.

Been told Bristol City enquired about Clarke after Friday's game. Was told not to bother.

Been told

Been told, been feckin told!!! You can't just say been told, where's the source? As bad as bad journoism just posting 'been told'.

What happened 'after the game' did their manager knock on our dressing room door and say excuse me but do you want to come and play with us Leon?

Historical posting

Clarke is in the form of his life. Has found a manager that understands him. Is an influence in the dressing room and popular with his team mates and a fans favourite why would we consider selling him to a promotion rival. Some people need to give their heads a shake £2 million! He's the leading goalscorer in the championship and his form puts him in the £10 million plus bracket.

The only issues for him are travelling from Birmingham and his contract only having 18 months left. Simple we need to give him an extension and improved contract in January and tell Villa to do one. Ambitious clubs looking to get promoted don't sell their leading scorer in the transfer January window.

On the value. Daryl Murphy is the benchmark. He went for £4m and was a similar age to Clarke. I’d look for £5m but realistically that wouldn’t buy you a replacement.

Not that I'm wanting it to happen, but I suppose interesting at least would be Scott Hogan plus £X million.

Hogan's been a terrible failure (so far) at Villa but he's a class striker. And he's only 25.

But Hogan's current wages would be, what, three/four/five times what Leon's currently on?

And, anyway, Leon Clarke epitomises what's great about this club - take a "journeyman" (maybe an unjust term in his case, but you know what I mean) & make him a hero & a legend.

No deal.

Can't see him going but if he did...and in fact even if he doesn'...I'd be after Wyke from Bradford. He's gonna be a star and he still affordable

Very very hard to replace his goals and assists with the money you'd raise. Looking at the Championship you'd probably be after Martyn Waghorn or Billy Sharp.

Apparently Wilder and Johnson had a drink together after the game, the Leon bit was tongue in cheek allegedly.
