I can understand why Middlesbrough fans are so annoyed with Rob Edwards for leaving Middlesbrough for Wolves.
This isn't something that has happened often with us (because managers are usually sacked by us for doing badly).
The toughest one for me was Howard Kendall leaving us for Everton. I thought he did a great job for us and think he would have got us promoted the following season. Having said that I can see why Kendall was drawn to Everton given his history there.
Steve Bruce left us for Huddersfield after doing ok with us. Given how things were going with the Board I can see why he chose to leave (although he did leave other clubs later on, including Wednesday!)
Gary Speed left us for Wales, again I can't blame him for that, particularly considering what an awful team we had.
I can't think of any others? I always had a grudging respect for Ron Atkinson after he did the dirty on Wednesday to go to Aston Villa! Particularly when Villa won at Hillsborough on the opening day of the following season!

Racist Ron was funnier as he appeared to leave the pigs and then said he couldn't leave "the best job in football" then 48 hrs later fucked off, as you say they beat em 1st game of that season.

As regards us Kendall left pre season as did Bruce neither of whom you could blame, Speed was weird timing we didnt really make any effort to keep him.

The only time I was fearful was late 80s if someone came in for Bassett but they didn't.

Warnock alleged that Pompey wanted him and been Warnock used it to feather his own nest.

No one came in for Wilder mk 1 although believed he didnt shut down Sunderland rumours to get more brass.

Thing with most clubs is they interview several managers before appointments over the last few years we haven't done this

Bassett was a great manager back then..

What's that got to do with saying Bassett was a great manager..Wilkinson didn't walk out we let Leeds speak to him.he went to better job at the time like we all do.
He left when Wednesday were in the top 6 of division 1 to join a Leeds side who were 20th in division 2, and who had not been in division 1 in 6 seasons.

He said at the time he was doing this “to better myself”. He was right.

You always want to better yourself..if wilder got offered say Brentford job he would be gone.

Brentford are in a higher division.

Leeds were not.

Just checked the exact league positions when the move occurred: Wednesday 7th in Division 1, Leeds 21st in Division 2.

Wilkinson’s last game as manager was a 1-0 win v Villa on 1 October. I was there: the first game I saw at Hillsborough. They then went 9 league games without a home win. Their next win was on 4 March, 3-1 v Charlton. That was my second game at Hillsborough…

I’ve been 8 times, 3 to watch United, and never seen Wednesday lose. They’ve won 6 and drawn 2. As a result of this, I have not set foot there in 30 years.

Can't honestly say I was bothered about any of the managers that walked out on us. Bruce in particular I was elated.
Kendall I thought had done well but seemed to have lost the plot towards the end of the season and ultimately I was surprised he got us past the playoff semis, I felt he'd taken us as far as he could.

Kendall had done well until he fell of the Wagon half way through his second season.

After saying “how could I leave the best job in football?” about Wednesday, I think he also said “How could I turn down the best job in football?” about Villa. Ah, loyalty.

I think they did. Didn’t Man City (amongst others) come in for him?

I can understand why Edwards has moved on.

He's a Telford lad and has played over 100 games for Wolves... I wouldn't be surprised if he's a Wolves fan?!?

He's on a no lose this season, if he keeps them up great. If not, he should be in a title challenge next year for the rebuild

Spackman?

I think a lot of the leeway shown to Speed, was due to his quality as a player. He was a mediocre manager for us, and seemingly couldn't wait to join a very poor Wales. Credirt to him for turning them around, but he didn't do us any favours. As it turned out, he had his demons, so RIP.

Bruce is a different kettle of wanker-fish. He walked out on us, Palace, Wigan (twice) and then the porcine. He really was a mercenary basatrd and I wish him nothing but ill, in the game.

Think we'd got enough about us to not get relegated under Speed, plus he'd have had a lot more pull in January than bringing in the likes of Shane Lowry, Joe Mattock, Neill Collins and Michael Doyle to try and keep us up!

Also, they've given him a 3.5 year contract on Prem money. So £££££££££ as usual
