One of the leaders?? Give over. Never deserved the captains armband when he was given it. He’s made no attempt to find a new club, happy getting paid for doing nowt. & he’s nowhere near deserving of having a place in the 25 man squad, hopefully this transfer windows signings will have sorted that out.

If any of that was true do you reckon Wilder would've kept him around the squad? If you’re not going to back Clarke, at least back the man who’s taken the club to a level many of us have never seen in our lifetimes. Life must be pretty miserable if you’re sitting here after the transfer window we’ve just had pissing about some people being pro Leon Clarke.

Leon still here to lift the FA Cup!

Surprised a team in the SPL or L1 didn't come for him. Still got a little left in the tank.

I actually thought he played quite well vs Millwall the other day. Could have had an assist for Billy. Got himself space to get a shot on goal.

If he gets 6 months worth of money, good luck to the lad. Just surprised so many other teams were inert. He's probably more effective than anyone Sunderland have right now for example.

FFS. The love in for Leon is so far over the top it’s unreal. 2 goals v Pigs was great. 15 by January that season was great. New contract signed in January - 4 goals rest of season ending on 19 after a big pay rise - not so good. He’s getting paid for doing nothing, same as Ricky Holmes - pay them both off & get them out of the club.

I like Clarke. Gave his all for the club. He was one of the reasons we got over the line in league1. His form when he came back from injury was class.

His championship season is a weird one when you drill into it.

19 in 39 games is a great return "Almost 1-in-2" you could say. And written like that, it is. That's a fact. Over the course of the season he scored a goal every 2.05 games...

But...

If you look at it, he actually only scored in 12 of those games. He got 4 v Hull, 3 v Fulham and braces against the pigs and Wolves (11 of his 19 in just 4 games). That's great and those goals helped, but sandwiched in the middle of all that are 2 spells of 5 games without a goal and also a 10 game spell too.

He's never been consistent enough. When he's in form, he really, really is.

Pay him off & get him out of the club. Fairly obvious he wants to sit out his contract & get as much as he can from us.
He did okay for us,thats about it. The fact he had a place in our PL squad is laughable.
So

You genuinely think that after been awarded the deal he stopped trying? You genuinely believe that?

Wouldn't be surprised if he's planning to retire at the end of the season. He's 35 next month and, if he were intending to move in the summer, he'd be better off showing that he still has something to offer by playing football - even if that meant dropping down the leagues.

That’s what I reckon, why bother playing another half season in League One, he’s already won that division, so where’s his motivation at 35 to play at that level?

Why risk getting a serious injury when he can just train, bank his money from United and plan the next phase of his life.

I can’t see anybody else paying him the sort of money he must be on here.

But why? What do we gain?

Wilder himself said that was likely to happen if he couldn’t find a club. He’s never been one to want a big number of players out of the squad not involved – he’s mentioned more than once the importance of squad size for helping to maintain a close knit atmosphere, and that 25 is an ideal squad number. We’re now above that, albeit not affecting the registration because of the U21s recruited. From Clarke’s point of view enabling him to get a new club now rather than in the summer where clubs will have a bigger pool of players to pick from.

We also might just have limited locker space at Shirecliffe. If you look at the leaked photo from the Wilder-Abdullah meeting “new training ground – with more lockers!” is clearly visible on Steve Bettis’s notepad.
