Outgoing? Leon Clarke

Clarke is in the form of his life. Has found a manager that understands him. Is an influence in the dressing room and popular with his team mates and a fans favourite why would we consider selling him to a promotion rival. Some people need to give their heads a shake £2 million! He's the leading goalscorer in the championship and his form puts him in the £10 million plus bracket.

The only issues for him are travelling from Birmingham and his contract only having 18 months left. Simple we need to give him an extension and improved contract in January and tell Villa to do one. Ambitious clubs looking to get promoted don't sell their leading scorer in the transfer January window.
I've just shivered , must be a dose of Beattie flu 2009.

That's ridiculous. For all the sales we have made in the past surely even we can't sell two strikers in January when we are pushing for promotion.
Deane & Fijortoft on the same day under chairman Mac & Chas Green , so depressing I can't even be bothered to check the year.

You can take the boy out of the black country, but you cant take the black country out of the boy.

Leon in his gold fancy dress for the players xmas doo.

GLTTL, I think Birmingham (given his childhood roots) would be his preferred move, but whichever it is, he goes with our best wishes.

He was on fire in our first season back in the Championship, and two goals at the sty (and almost a third, if he could have connected with young Brooks "post-nutmeg" cross) made him a fan favourite. His turn of pace for his first goal, the way he stared at the pig fans as he ran to celebrate, and the way he brushed the Rustboro FC powder-puff defenders to one side for the second goal was a sight to see.

Birmingham are a basket case of a club, as are Hull. Wigan have made some adept signings over summer and IMO would be the best bet for Leon.

BTW - what a contribution he made to Utd's recent success. He should be very proud of what he achieved.

One could argue his performance against Leeds for Wigan was the single most pivotal performance and result for us in the entire season.

Great signing for us - there was an 18 month period where he was literally unplayable for us and one of the best strikers I’d seen at the Lane.

Hope he lands in the right situation and has another crack at the championship

Did fantastically for us and I should hope most Blades will remember him fondly.

Last season was truly magnificent from him, with that brace against the Pigs giving him one foot in the hall of fame. I still laugh my arse off watching his first goal back, with the Pigs defence all over the shop and him calmly jogging past the Kop, before causing mayhem on the touchline. 😂

You’re probably looking at 7 figures in the current market even at his age given the season before last in particular.

Would be a big profit, a brilliant end to his time at Bramall Lane which has been an unmitigated success after being written off for most of his first season. And some of the detractors couldn’t look past his Wednesday links even when he was putting away 20 goals for us which is obviously ridiculous.

I’d rather he went to be someone’s first choice in the championship than our fifth choice in the Prem, it’s why he deserves.

Thank you Leon for everything.

I was extremely underwhelmed when we signed him but now view him with affection. He turned out to be an important cog in the Wilder machine for two seasons and is proof again if we need it that CW gets most of his transfer dealings spot on.

Then there’s Hillsborough in the bouncing day massacre of course ...........

Why? They’ve got an absolute threadbare squad, can’t see how they’d be anyone’s tip to do well.

Decent young squad (albeit short on numbers for now) & a good manager. Also that Championship division is quite a mixed bag of good teams, middling sides and basket case clubs. Wouldn't surprise me to see someone like a Wigan, Luton or a Charlton to make a good run at the play-offs next season. Perhaps even Millwall.

Don't want him to go, he'll play 10 games in the Prem.
He's the only transfer listed player with the squad in Portugal. I'd guess Chris is happy to keep him there should we start the season light on forwards.

Imo we shouldn’t sell until we’ve sorted out a replacement - too risky if they signings of our key striking targets don’t come off. We could be left short.

Most other clubs like to sign a replacement before selling - we be well advised to do the same.

Will we really sell any forwards until weve signed at least one of our targets ?

What happens if we get gazumpted on Maupay and McBurnie ? High risk strategy when we dont "need" to sell and theres no guarantees on the players we are after.

You think we'll get £1m+ for Leon? Don't get me wrong, I hope you're absolutely right, but even with that 2017/18 season I think he'll be going for much less than that. Love the guy but can't see anyone spending more than a couple of hundred grand on someone is 34, didn't pull up trees last season and for whom 17/18 was a bit of an outlier.

In this market? Don’t rule it out. He scored 20 goals season before last
