If he hadn't have signed them we'd have struggled in the second half of the season, really struggled. Evans has already made an impact and we've just lost Fleck again through suspension so need cover for him. We can't just rely on the same 11 to play every game. We're seeing players lose form because they're struggling to maintain intensity. Look how good Sharp and Duffy look after a rest. No deal has been done yet, he couldn't just not sign players in the hope that this investment will come through in the summer and he's still got a job after finishing 18th with a piss poor second half of the season.
I don't think we'd have signed Evans if Coutts hadn't broken his leg, I think he'd have used Lundy as cover for the odd game but he's had his hand forced a bit.
He won't want to totally disrupt the team by signing loads of new players in the summer so will probably look to bring in better strikers, a younger no.10, a better LWB and a keeper. Maybe an upgrade on Basham too. Holmes will probably suffer but he'll have got a good contract out of the move and an opportunity to prove himself at this level so I'm sure he'll cope. Same with Lundy. Lenny, if he steps up, will probably stay, along with Basham as utility players so we don't get caught out by injuries like this season and Evans will compete with Coutts.
Carruthers and Lafferty will go, Billy and Leon will compete with the new signings/cover them. Holmes and Lundy may end up going out on loan or permanent in the JTW, depending on how things pan out.
Wolves aside, our midfield has been pretty decent, it's been the strikers and the delivery from wide that's been our weaker points recently and we've been too dependent on Duffy having a good game. Sort those things out first if you've got money to spend. I've listed six positions where we could improve quality, that's enough for one window.
