How do we do this exactly?

Start throwing games if we’re top 2 come april

Will we celebrate a loss as it keeps us out of the promotion race??

If you in competitive sport you play to win, got promoted and make a better fuckin fist of it next time
Beat me to it mate, we/prince may need money to survive too

Sure. Do an Ipswich and buy out the championship stars. Come back down, smash the league again.
I was saying this when we went up under Warnock ! Maybe I’m missing something here, it’s not that ridiculous of an idea is it?! Surely it’s better than risking £150m on flops

It’s a no from me, he’s wanted to off load us for a couple of years now, he’s taken us as far as he can , I appreciate what he’s achieved but I couldn’t stand another premier league like the one previous & the lack of communication is shockingly poor judgement

This year we will be paid approx £49 million in parachute payments and we still had to find approx £20 million to break even, next season we will only receive approx £31m so my guess is if we don’t go up we will need to find circa £38 million to stay even, I know what I’d prefer even if it means having our arses slapped every game, we put up with it last year I’m sure we can again whilst it’s topping our bank up.

There's no reason we can't be much more competitive even on a similar budget. Luton spent little and far from disgraced themselves. We can do similar if we're not naive and unserious in our recruitment. Btw, we'd have a goalkeeper this time - in massive contrast

And staying up IS actually a possibility - we should never be totally defeatist

But coming back down, after spending little, on a strong financial footing to build the club is a far better scenario than not going up at all. I'm sure we'd truly cement ourselves as the neutral's favourite too.....

Also with more experience and a manager who would know exactly what went wrong and what is needed to stay up.

Find it weird how we have fans who don't want promotion.....do they want us to lose this season?
If our fans lack ambition then what chance does a new owner have?
We have no choice but to try to reach the PL....that's where all the fame and fortune is......any clubs not in the PL gradually die a slow death.
My preference would be to go up next season with a better squad, but there are inherent dangers with that policy which could see us losing players and end up with a weaker squad than this season.
In the meantime we should go to win as many as we can and see where that takes us. If up then so be it and we will take the benefits.

For me the only promotion I'd be willing to accept with the Prince still in charge is via Play-offs because it means we finally got to see us win a game at Wembley.
Otherwise I'd be far happier (and think we're more likely to get sold eventually) by staying in the Championship. I couldn't bare a repeat of last season any time soon.
No I never want Utd to get promoted. That would mean winning lots of games and having an enjoyable season. Not for me.

I hated our last season in the Premier League. I took no enjoyment out of it whatsoever. I’ve already enjoyed this season more and we’re barely a month or so in.

It’s not ridiculous to say you prefer this and therefore might even want to just happily kick around in the Champ in a league where anyone can win any game. Realistically overall it’s better for the long-term future of the club to be promoted, but if you told me we could miss out on promotion and stay in the Champ financially secure, I wouldn’t be heartbroken.

i would be fascinated what we would do in the premier league. because 1st relegation we went for alledgely wilder strategy of buying cheap domestic players which was people say was the start of tension

get back up under hecky & prince gets wish of doing what he wanted in 20/21 & buying cheap overseas talent & it was even worse

with the fees the way they are. you cant splash the cash because quality you could get has double & triple in price

Financially it makes sense of course, and it also does seem daft to be in a league and not want to win it and go up. But I'm not sure I'd have the appetite to go and watch us if it was getting tonked 5-0 every week.

Also imagine the quality of player's you would attract...

"Hey team, just letting you know, even if we win promotion you won't get a chance to play in the Premier League as you desire as we've decided to stay in the championship... so good news, you get to slog it out in the championship for another 46 games"

🤣🤣🤣

I think we're more, not less likely to be sold as a Premier League Club or a parachute payment recipient. This is due not only to the commercial standing of the club, and the increased visibility of United on the big stage, but due to the competitive advantage you then have in the championship. It's massive for potential expenditure in the championship due to FFP rules. The PL could also accelerate infrastructure projects. Frankly it's madness to not want to be in the PL. The only good thing is that it's easier to win football matches in the Champ.

Very true . We already have the basis of a much better squad than we had the last time around and a far more coherent system of playing .

These factors , coupled with a few shrewd signings if we were to be promoted could and should lead to us performing much better in the PL than last year’s pathetic attempt .

Even if we were to be relegated , I am sure we we would do so by giving a much better account of ourselves and have the pleasure of seeing us playing against some of the best teams in the world and at least giving them a run for their money as we did in Wilder’s first promotion year .

Churchill , upon being promoted to the Premier League:

We have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. . . . You ask, what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war, by defence , midfield & attack , with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous Premier League , never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of corrupt sporting competition . . . . You ask, what is our aim? I can answer that in one word: It is Victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.

We need a year in the PL out of every 3 just for financial reasons and the sustainability of the club.

If we don’t then the likes of Souza, Hamer, O’Hare, Cooper will be a speck in the rearview mirror and we’ll be selling decent youngsters like Brooks and Arblaster for 1/3 of their value just to make ends meet as soon as someone makes an offer and we become a ‘team like Preston’ as a best case.

A lot of the shitshow last season was down to players being out of contract this summer. It gets overlooked way too much IMO.

From the premature and shoot yourself in the foot sales of Berge and Ndiaye before a ball was kicked, to then having 15 (or whatever it was) players out of contract at the end of the season. We only needed a bit of a bad start for the morale to go, which would have been hard for a player to overcome at the best of times. More so if you know you’re probably going to leave anyway, at the end of the season. Why bother putting maximum effort in? We’d also lost key influences in the dressing room (Sharp, Stevens etc.).

We wouldn’t have that next time around. We also seem to have turned a corner with the injuries too.

We didn’t even have the basic foundations right last time, is what I’m getting at. Without even starting on the recruitment conversation.

I voted No, I wouldn't want another shit show of a promotion season like the last where PA didn't provide funding the team/manager to give club a fighting chance.
Do I want promotion yes just like all Bladesmen & women but not with the Prince.
This is my explanation as well for the NO vote... we were a laughing stock around the world.

For me it's not about being competitive in the PL which is a Billionaire dependent pipedream. But I do want to be as competitive as possible in the champ, which is a great league to be in. And for that, we still need relative Megabucks. If prostituting ourselves out every 2 or so seasons for weekly dry shaftings is the way to earn it, then ya know, c'est la vie and UTB(lades)

Regardless of who's in charge.

I think that goes for a lot of blades! Great to win matches again.
Not the real world though is it ! we would be in trouble financially again without promotion or new owners able to take the hit if a stay in the championship came along.

Unfortunately we cannot be choosey. This season represents our best and probably only opportunity to get back to the Premier League. Without new ownership with deep pockets (not happening) we need the money garnered from another horrific season in the top flight just to compete once again at the top end of the championship in 2 years time.

If we don't go up this season there will have to be sales to make up for the reduction in parachute payments. Players will be sold that we stand little chance of replacing with similar quality and the slide back towards league one will be in full flow. Without owner investment once the parachute payments dry up we'll be back down as a bottom 5 championship budget. There's little to no chance of challenging at that point.

The only way we can hope to advance to the next level is to keep up this existence as a yo-yo club under the Prince until he eventually, hopefully finds someone with deep pockets to take us further. That won't happen if we fall off the promotion/relegation train

I'd rather go up if were in contention.

I would definitely rather us not bother spending a penny than buy the players we bought last year, it was almost as if the club didn't know who they wanted and planned to spend nothing. Then players forced their hand to sell them for a cut price fee as they wouldn't sign extensions and we just spent money on players available to say we had partially reinvested.

I think this shows again with how many have now moved on.

On a side note this side is considerably better as an 11 than the one that kicked off against palace at home last year when the writing was clearly on the wall.

If we don’t go up the likes of Hamer, Blaster, Souza, Anel, Cooper and O’Hare will likely need to be sold.

We need to yo-yo to try and plug the gap the owner can’t afford to fund anymore.
