It would be a repeat of last season and we lost quite a few supporters interests after that. Same scenario, mortgaging parachute payments against next seasons income with premiership contracts. Prince cannot sustain us,it’s well documented. We have done well this season with good sales and contract ends but we are still allegedly paying players £40k a week or close to,1 is a crock and league 1 standard and the alleged others aren’t ours. Maybe hearsay on that ??

I’d always want us to get promoted, to have the hope of doing so is the essence of being a football fan.

But then I balance that against what happened last time, under the stewardship of The Prince, and feel that it would be rinse and repeat.

Bit of a long winded way of saying “I don’t know” I guess

We HAVE to go up, if we want to sustain the club financially and be playing at a decent level, of that’s a yo - yo club so be it, otherwise it will be a gradual decline, to becoming a mediocre mid table champ team if not worse. Which will have far more consequence than having a terrible season in the Prem. are we really saying here we want to become a another Sheffield Wednesday, a club that has bee in steady decline infra-structurally over the last 20 years.. no thanks… give me a shitty odd season in the prem any day so we can compete in the second tier and be a decent club.

For what it’s worth I don’t think we’d have another like last time if Wilder was manger from the start of the season,I also think the prince would invest some of the prem money in the team.

From a football perspective it seems crazy when you think that we wouldn’t want promotion but the last two relegations were soul destroying, particularly the last one .. totally uncompetitive & embarrassing tbh … so in that respect I’m in no rush for a rinse & repeat of that again .

If we were to go up under the current owner I genuinely think it will be a rinse of repeat of last seasons horror show with limited investment, not that I think the takeover if it ever materialised would be the knights in shining armour . The PL is getting tougher & tougher each year & the gap now between there & Championship is a chasm & already last seasons promoted sides are in or around the relegation slots & the pattern is there for all to see sadly .

But then there’s then financial reality .. it be be great think even if we don’t go up we’d be a top end of the Championship side year in year out but the reality is if your not promoted back up there in the the first season or two that you have to cut your cloth accordingly & part of that is selling your prized assets & young talent & each season thereafter becomes more of treading water exercise .

If we want to grow / stabilise club ( new training ground , Cat 1 Academy status etc ) then the financial investment is paramount.. and the only source of this nowadays are the PL payments unless you want some Hollywood actors buying your club

It’s a sad reality of modern day football of how boom & bust it’s become & what’s makes the Championship the basket case that it is financially ⚔️

No if the takeover falls through there will be no investment from the Prince and it would be a repeat of last season which was sole destroying

What makes you think that?

He's always invested in the past. Regards our last 3 seasons in the Premier league.
1st year net spend £55 million, 2nd year £50 million net spend, 3rd year (last season) net spend £30 million.

The Prince has stated that he DOES have the funds to finance a Championship club and below
and does have money to invest in the Premier league but he's concluded the above sums aren't enough.

Think any promoted team needs a net spend of £100 million in the 1st season to give them a good chance of being competitive.

Last time we went up our squad was in a total mess and we were carrying massive losses from the previous relegation.

If we do make it this year we’d be starting from a much stronger position and so hopefully we’d be at least competitive (albeit still in a relegation scrap again).

That was totally out of the clubs control, granted the club could have told them to piss off sooner so we could invest in players but to push that narrative is reductive.

That were basically replaced with Hamer and Souza which if we had not gone up we wouldn't have had any of the 4

I was basically pointing out that us getting promoted to PL doesn't mean we don't sell players. When the big dogs come knocking/faxing etc

Assuming we keep everyone on Jan

Who says if a takeover goes through it would be a different outcome if we went up?

The Americans, like the Prince, may not have enough to fund a Premier League team.
I don’t disagree, but why buy us if that’s the case?

I’d like an Aston Martin but I can’t afford to run one. Same principle

One the key factors behind why we got relegated last season in my eyes was the failure to make any permanent signings for two years following our 20/21 relegation, this left us with an ageing depleted squad which required a massive re-build when we were promoted in 22/23. Made even harder when losing players such as Ndiaye and Berge.

All the above demonstrated to me that the Prince was not running the club in a effective manner, and if we hadn't got promoted under Hecky I'd hate to think we're where we would be currently. If the prince continues to remain in charge, he must learn from his mistakes as we can't end up in a similar scenario again.

Whether the takeover goes through or not, the club must develop a short, medium and long term plan to ensure a better running of the club overall. This is where Wilder deserves massive credit, despite it being the Board's responsibility.

The premier league isn’t fun, unless you finish top 10 and are a media darling. I don’t want to go up until we have a proper plan with a very good, young squad with an exceptional academy and scouting set up.

We’ve been in the prem for 3 out of the last 5 years and we’re still potless and couldn’t muster enough moneh together to sign a striker on loan in august,

Largely self inflected due to previous wasteful spending. Did you see how much we spent on McBurnie (not fit to tie Sharp's laces) and Brewster. You'll be hard pressed to find another club of our stature spending that kind of cash for such little return.

Both going on free transfers upon contract expiry.

With hindsight I would say yes! The PL relegation season was hard to take, but Wilder made a decent start with the rebuild, and the club seems unlikely to get financial sanctions again.

Despite’s few lack lustre performances, the season seems to be going well enough, and the club is well placed for promotion again. Access to higher EPL funding might give us enough to add to the rebuild again. If done correctly we might even stay up this time? We probably won’t have any choice in it anyway!

I know the threads about a what if next season but our next obstacle will be the January window. This will test the current owners resolve , we’re certainly gonna have interest around Souza & Hamer etc and if we want to be in the mix come May I think we need two to three additions in there & that based on retaining what we’ve got .
