So, the argument is developing that it is better NOT to go to games...

The 90 mins or so journey with the kids to the match has indeed been wonderful bonding time for me. Bristol City last month was the first time my daughter took on driving duties….across Winnat and Snake Passes - as much of a thrill ride as the game….!Off topic, but I've mentioned elsewhere, the growing guilt of brainwashing son into supporting Blades when he was born in Brighton and his first bedroom was in Hove. Feel like he could have quite a happy life supporting them....!
But back on topic, when he's old enough I plan to drive us up to matches for the joy of the match/bonding experience. So it's not all guilt.
Plus I can ensure he always has Blades match access at home. Whereas BHA I'm not as likely to go out of my way/mould plans around!
Still hurting?Yeah, I know Cheesebord. I'll bet you were sat there all ready in your lippy, naked and shaved apart from a cowboy hat, feather boa, chaps and one of those nameless objects you blow into that unfurls and goes 'toot!' with a vodka martini and a family pack of Revels cheering on Croatia.
Y'know, you shouldn't comment on it unless you were actually at the semi finals similarly attired ...

What really doesn't matter? You & me are posting on a football forum. And there's an argument on that football forum that football fans going to games really doesn't matter? That's difficult to sustain surely? No
It really doesn't matter

Are you getting Eurovision mixed up with your Navy rec room?Yeah, I know Cheesebord. I'll bet you were sat there all ready in your lippy, naked and shaved apart from a cowboy hat, feather boa, chaps and one of those nameless objects you blow into that unfurls and goes 'toot!' with a vodka martini and a family pack of Revels cheering on the Yanks.
Of course. As Shoutbox is SO much fun...........So, the argument is developing that it is better NOT to go to games...
Here's hoping you see more next season, and more than that the year after.I actually made 3. One was in TC suite as a wedding gift.
Won all 3.
I'd estimate that at least half (say two dozen) fans on the coach would routinely, matter of factly, quietly, with no trumpets, go to every game in a season, all competitions, all venues. I know there are other privately organised away coaches. And my feeling is many of their customers also have the same simple organised completist approach to attending every game.
What is hard to figure out is why (for me at least) when possible, it's so much better to go to the games, especially away games, rather watch in "comfort" and "convenience"?The only home game I missed this season was against Reading due to Covid, I had bought tickets for the away game at Luton but missed the game due to the illness. The away games I went to were Boro, Cardiff (new ground for me), Millers, Norwich, Huddersfield and Birmingham so 28/46 for me.
I agree. The Premier League fixture #BigNews for the Carrier Bag Firm isWe probably have around 1,200 to 1,500 in the top bracket of Loyalty points - over 70K.
I'd say to accumulate that, they'll be there >90% of the games.
To some people it's their life. Their family calendar will be planned AROUND games and not the other way; seeing what games drop into available slots.
This, exactly. Sad I know, but a lot easier when you go as a couple, otherwise it would just be too selfish, or you don't like each other very much. For many years holidays were always arranged when United weren't playing, weddings and parties turned down as we were playing. Even daughters weddings organised out of season. It became an obsession. I once went eight years not missing a home game. That takes some doing I can tell you. But funnily enough, once I'd missed a game, car broke down on the way there and even though I left the car and tried to get to the game by other means I didn't make it, it no longer mattered. To some people it's their life. Their family calendar will be planned AROUND games and not the other way; seeing what games drop into available slots.
I will not miss the SUFC colouring, Gage or most of all the appalling sound quality! Christ I know I'm lucky to be able to stream all the matches but sometimes the standard was enough to make you wish for the days of just staring at ceefax "live scores" page. The Birmingham City commentary yesterday was fucking annoying. He wasn't anywhere near the Hal/Nick levels of balanced, controlled narrative. He basically stUCTUred HIS sentences in BURSTS of high enerGY with SHOUTY bits and then quiet BITS with SYLLables at different VOLUMES. When Brum broke out in the first half with Khadra as well, I thought he was gonna shit a few conkers, lace them up and go best of three hits, he was so animated. It must have been some shit season at St Andrews.
But on the Firestick you either have the SUTV matchday commentator assisted by Mogadon Gage or the affable Sarbs with the colour balance making you think the floodlights have partially failed and the crowd sound like it's in Oyl in t'Roeerd or to have the opposing teams' iFollow which could be any daft cunt who fancies himself with a microphone accompanied by a 'fuck me, is he still alive?' ex-player mumbling missives about 'back when we were in the First Division' and the like. And they barely talk about United and say 'Endeeyai' and 'Achmedozich' and 'McBoozer'

Thanks for bringing some understanding and some loveliness to the thread! Some football fans have obsessive & completist character traits. They have to have them all. Shirts. Programmes. Ticket stubs. Teamsheets. Games. You see the same traits in some music fans. I do not know how unusual that is. But, among the limited number of United fans I know, it is quite common. That is the circle I am in. I don't go to all the games. Never have. But, I travel to some away games on a privately organised supporters coach.

Yes, many of them will keep lists. Games attended. Beers drunk. Grounds ticked. That is part of their obsessive make up.
I'm trying to make the point that attending 46/46 (or similar) is not always a Bigger Blade Swinging Contest. For some people it's simply - what they do. They don't "look down" on people who can't attend games. And, they don't expect recognition from others. It's just - what they do.
Haha yes Silent has set up a standing order and I’m his Forum bodyguard. No they aren't. When players play well, they get praise. Good marks. When have I criticised McAtee, Doyle, Anel or NDaiye? Go back and have a look. Or is it 'just what you want to read' over 'what is actually stated'. I think you have problems with reading. There are books and help online with that stuff.
'Bullying'? And 'innocent posts'? Is Silent paying you for this shite?
Feller, you are super tough and clearly one not to be messed with, no siree.
Just scroll past, eh? I'm not worth it, and neither are you.

Disagree. I actually prefer watching away games at home on TV. No travelling to games. No aggro from entitled Blades. No queuing for beer or the bogs. Night matches mean I can put my son to bed and the elation when we win is no different. Went to a couple of away games this year doubt I’ll be rushing to go to another. What is hard to figure out is why (for me at least) when possible, it's so much better to go to the games, especially away games, rather watch in "comfort" and "convenience"?
Norwich away for instance; a nightmare to get to and from, but probably my best day out of the season.
Pilgrimage?

I think we should join hands across the great divide and inclusively celebrate our difference and diversity.Disagree. I actually prefer watching away games at home on TV. No travelling to games. Does this make me less of a Blade?
