I've got nothing against Hendo as a goalie, in fact I think he's a cracker, but what does get's up my nose is he's not our Goalie he's Man U's, and for me that put's us at a disadvantage we can least afford every time we play them, plus there's also this feeling of having to go cap in hand to them every season ,
So no matter how important I may feel he is for us, I'd be much happier if next season Mr Wilder offered him the job here, and if he's still not keen go out and buy in a goalkeeper of our own.

I'm more bothered about getting the best keeper we can rather than whether we own him or not. A player 90% as good as Henderson could cost us 10 points next season.
If we can find a keeper better than Hendo within our budget then all well and good, if not I'm happy to see him back for another year

We are going to have to squeeze the absolute maximim. Out of the loan and free transfer markets next season.,resigning hendo is a no brainer but we will have to make better use of the foreign loans too

I'd personally have Hendo back here next season, but as others have said, we shouldn't be held to ransom over any fees. If Man Utd want a stupid fee then we should move on and look elsewhere. We've aleady been linked with Fenerbahce's keeper Altay Bayindir, so it's pretty sure to say Wilder will have someone on his radar if Hendo isn't an option next season.

Hendo himself has a huge question to ask himself in the break. Is he happy warming the bench at Man Utd and getting the odd cup game either domestically, or in Europe. It's the Euros next summer, and the world cup the year after, so he needs to be playing first team football to have any chance of playing in either of them tournaments for England.

In terms of other options where he could go next season, are Man Utd likely to sell him to any one of the so called 'big six'.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, and Tottenham have all got keepers they're likely to keep for at least next season. The only other is Chelsea, who appear not to be too happy with Kepa, but are Man Utd going to sell to a rival?

Apart from us, and perhaps the teams promoted next season, no one else seems to be in the market for a new keeper.

Read a report on restarts in Spain and Germany and there was the comment that the Keepers looked to have suffered most during lockdown especially younger keepers. Guess that they can stay fit but reactions and judgement more difficult to keep up when not playing

Another ordinary effort today from De Gea today on Bournemouth‘s first, though Big H didn’t cover himself in glory either. I suspect Henderson could be the number 1 at Old Trafford next season.

You're right I have no idea, apart from having a father who's an ex-pro keeper, 4 years as a keeper in 2 different academies myself and personal friends who are currently working as GK coaches in professional clubs. But you're right, I've no idea...
Name them. If you’re telling the truth I’ll probably know them.

Why would I give out my dads full name and the names of my personal friends to an anonymous person on an internet forum?

A mate of mine is Wednesday's goal keeping coach, I don't hold it against him!!
He also played for Man Citeh n England.

I'd love him back. We won't be in a position to be able to buy a GK of that quality for a while. He's £50m+

We should get a decent number 2 from Europe though if Verrips isn't up to it, so at least we'll stand a chance of not letting 3 in against Man U.

But this is the internet, unless you post his full name, address, phone number and a photo of his cat nobody will believe you know him.

Against Newcastle, the first one almost went straight through him. He kicked at it and missed. He only got away with any flack because of the horrendous error before that by Enda. The second he was poorly positioned.

Against Arsenal, he left his near post open when he came out. He didn't have to come out but it is goalkeeping 101 to cover your near post. He should have left the guy with the only option to put it across him and Robinson would have been on the line and the angle would have been tight. It would have been very difficult to score.

How do I retract a mistaken like??...................Do you realise how difficult it is to stop an attacker scoring when he's got such an open chance.

Iv'e never been a pro footballer either but I can tell you a good player when I see one. Form sometimes dips even for the best out there.

I was never questioning his ability, just that he's not been up to usual standards since the re-start

It's probably even more difficult if the attacker is a Premier League quality International 😞

My only argument is with the first Newcastle goal - how on earth you and your ex professional goal keeping father can blame Henderson for the first goal is not something most of us agree with, which is where I first came into this discussion.

This first picture for me shows in 99.99% of games there is no danger.

1) the ball across the box - nothing wrong with Hendos position. Most would expect Stevens to trap the ball with his right foot and given the time and space a pro footballer should know that he has - except Stevens possibly panics (probably because he needs to trap in on his right foot)

2) The miss by Stevens - Hendo still ok - there's no reason to assume Stevens will miss the ball.

h1.JPG

3) Ball arrives at St Maximin - Hendo has turned, moved perhaps 2 yards to his left and set himself as much as he can in the time allowed - but that time only allows him 2 yards. Ideally he needs to be perhaps 4 yards. Hendos position gives St Maximin no decision to make where he's going to put it.

h2.JPG

4) the ball is by Hendos left foot - no choice other that to go with his feet. If Hendo had the time to get to where he is at this point, he would have made St Maximin make a decision as to where to shoot. Sorry, but there simply wasn't the time to get across, get himself set and make St Maximin choose what to do. Picture 3 had made St Maximins mind up.

5) Ball has ricocheted off his left foot into the net.

What I do agree with, is Hendo hasn't looked his best - quite possibly is he is missing JOC who's been on the left for most of Hendo's time with us which may expalin a few things.

I think it's mood. He doesn't seem as up for it body language wise, he's not as bouncy and vocal, I'm going with it being no crowd effect. He loves us lot.

Hopefully he gets a bit of a boost from Spurs.

His performances have still been overall good though, I wasn't happy about the Arsenal one and the Kane disallowed one, but my goalkeeping stopped at 11, so my ideas of what's saveable may be off.

Hendo, has done very well while he's been here, but you also have to give a lot of credit to the guys playing in front of him
well that can't be right according to a Man Utd source (I can't remember who) he has to be on his toes all the time which is much different from what he'd be doing at Man U.

If I was Hendo in picture 3 I would be rushing the Newcastle player to close down the angles/panic the player. Give you greater cover at the near post with the option to dive right if it goes that way, just saying as an amateur (retired) goalie. I dont think Hendo was quick thinking enough. Not as daft as it sounds because after a shock mistake normally you senses are heightened as they are now on full alert.

I’m a few pints down but if you’ve seen how well Henderson has played for us over the past two seasons, and on the strength of a few games post-lockdown, in which I think he’s continued to play pretty well but in any case feel the need to bash him, you’re a mug.

To attach any blame to Hendo for the first Newcastle goal is a nitpicking / daft IMO .

However , for Arsenal's winner he displayed a weakness prevalent amongst many modern goalkeepers which is that of rushing out and going down feet first in an attempt to block a shot. It is obviously something they are being coached to do but which often leads to a goal being conceded .

This is a technique which none of the great goalkeepers from the past would have even considered and defies the logic of the ability of a goalkeeper being able to use his hands and arms .

As others have said , by abandoning his near post he also made it easier for the player to score from that angle . For historical reference , see John Hope vs George Best for THAT goal all those years ago .

You've missed the point completely. You should always be prepared for what could happen no matter how unlikely it is.

Yes there was only a small chance Stevens was going to miss it, but Henderson should still have been prepared for the possibility that he could.

They train for situations over and over so they're ready should it happen once in a game. This time he wasn't ready for it because he switched off assuming Stevens would clear.

From your points
By point 1 he should have started to move further away from the goal line.
By point 2 he should be even further from the goal line anticipating Stevens missing it so that he's narrowing the angle in the event of their player getting a shot.

The best keepers are always alert to the things that could happen aswell as the things that are routine.

Why?

Stevens could end up.....

1. Clearing it.
2. Missing it.
3. Slicing it, potentially towards goal.
4. Playing it back to Henderson.

1. Means that Henderson does not have to react.
2. Means that Henderson has to react to ASM at the back post.
3. Means that Henderson may have to react near post, far post or the middle of the goal....Or even still to ASM at the back post.
4. Means he has to be ready at the near post to clear.

How does he cover all of the above?
